Chapter 18: Chapter 18
Among all the sects in Silver Willow Dynasty, aside from a top-tier Sword Dao sect like the Sword Sect whose master was a Mortal Supreme, the masters of the other major sects were only at the Great Grandmaster realm.
Although Adam was merely at Innate Perfection, he possessed two peerless supreme techniques: the Thirteen Heaven-Shattering Swords and the Indestructible Golden Body.
Let alone those of the same realm, even Grandmaster Realm cultivators would not easily defeat him, unless they were famous figures on the Grandmaster Ranking.
In other words, as long as Adam did not court death by provoking Great Grandmasters or the famous figures on the Grandmaster Ranking, he had more than enough power to protect himself.
Even if the South-Subduing King raised his army and breached the capital, as long as he was not encircled by a massive army, Adam was confident he could calmly leave with Cecilia at his current strength.
...
After a night of bitter cultivation, Adam did not feel the slightest fatigue. Instead, he was full of vigorous energy and high spirits.
Rather than going to bed, Adam simply washed up, ate the breakfast Cecilia had prepared, and set off for Inkwood Academy.
The moment he stepped through the doors, Adam felt the atmosphere was off.
Inkwood Academy was a quiet backwater, usually deserted and peaceful. The officials working there were relatively casual and would often chat together.
But today, as soon as Adam walked through the main doors, he felt an extremely oppressive atmosphere.
Not only was there none of the familiar chatting, but unfamiliar faces were inside the academy interrogating the officials one by one.
Although Adam did not know these people, he recognized their uniforms, these were officers of the Law Enforcement Bureau.
"What’s going on, Brother?" Adam asked an official beside him.
"It’s all that Oswin’s fault! He incited public opinion, actually calling His Majesty a tyrant and claiming His Majesty framed the Veil Manor. In the end, it actually sparked a riot in the capital."
"This Oswin is truly a troublemaker. He almost dragged our Inkwood Academy down with him. If I run into him, I’ll definitely teach that brat a lesson."
It was plain to see that Aaron held a deep grudge against Oswin.
"Right, Adam, Oswin is usually closest to you. When the officers interrogate you later, you must be careful!"
"Absolutely do not hide anything! Otherwise, if they see any abnormalities in your expression, you’ll be in for more than you can handle."
Before leaving, Aaron called out to Adam and gave him a piece of earnest advice.
Sensing the goodwill in Aaron’s words, Adam nodded and headed toward the inner hall.
"Commander, the one ahead is Adam."
As expected, the moment he stepped into the inner hall, an academy official brought a group of runners over to interrogate him.
"You are Adam?!"
"I am indeed Adam."
Adam’s expression was calm, without the slightest panic.
"Adam, Oswin has slandered His Majesty, incited public opinion, and intends to rebel. If you know his whereabouts, tell this official at once."
"If you dare hide anything, do not blame my blade for being merciless."
The Commander drew the sword at his waist, the blade flashed, exuding bursts of chilling intent. He even caused his aura to surge, wanting to use the pressure of the Innate Realm to suppress Adam and intimidate him.
If Adam were still that rookie at the fifth level of Qi Condensation, he might have truly been bluffed, but today’s Adam was already at Innate peak. In his eyes, this aura was nothing more than a mayfly trying to shake a tree.
However, Adam still pretended to be terrified, stammering, "R-Reporting to Commander, I truly do not know Oswin’s whereabouts!"
"Yesterday, I spent the entire day compiling historical records in Inkwood Academy. I had absolutely no contact with Oswin."
Seeing Adam’s flustered expression, the Commander did not press further. Before Adam had even arrived, he had already investigated yesterday’s events thoroughly. What Adam said matched perfectly with what he had learned.
Having dodged the interrogation, Adam returned to his desk and picked up a historical record, but his mind was not on it at all.
Based on what the Commander said, Oswin’s actions had definitely caused a massive disaster. Once caught, it would be a matter of heads rolling, to say the least.
However, listening to the Commander’s tone, Oswin must have escaped for now and was currently safe.
I just wonder where Oswin is now.
Adam had a very good impression of Oswin. The man was his only friend in Inkwood Academy. He was inherently upright and extremely insightful, some of his remarks even made Adam, a person from the modern future, light up with realization.
May Oswin escape this tribulation.
Adam was currently just a minor expert at Innate Peak, he might barely have the ability to protect himself, but in this kind of matter he was truly powerless.
If he were a Heaven and Earth Deity, a figure unseen in Silver Willow Dynasty for five hundred years, even if Oswin committed regicide, he was confident he could keep him safe.
Left with no choice, Adam could only silently pray for Oswin’s safety.
Suppressing his worry, Adam turned his attention to the book on his desk and began reading with his full focus.
The book recounted the deeds of a generation’s Supreme Heaven’s Chosen, Michael.
Michael had a bumpy background. Although he was a prince of the White Crane Dynasty, he was merely the offspring of a palace maid whom the Emperor had favored while drunk.
In the massive imperial palace, he had no presence whatsoever, since birth, the Emperor had not even looked at Michael once.
Not only was he unloved by the Emperor, but during childhood Michael suffered endless bullying from eunuchs and palace maids.
However, Michael’s aptitude was astonishing. Though disregarded, he could master any cultivation method the moment he learned it.
Not only that, he could turn decay into magic, displaying extremely terrifying power in his techniques.
Besides his aptitude, his comprehension was a rarity seen only once in a millennium.
