Chapter 58: End
Wuxia forced the greatsword forward and cut through the priest’s shoulder, while the scythe struck Varkhiel’s chest and opened a deep crack through the armor.
Both separated as blood ran down the Green Priest’s arm and pieces of condensed soul armor broke from Varkhiel’s chest.
Nearly thirty minutes had passed since the compound was sealed, while only two minutes remained before Varkhiel’s enhanced state ended.
The Green Priest looked at the injuries covering his body, then toward the soldiers and contestants still fighting his summoned spirits outside the domain.
His expression twisted as he began laughing. "You bastards have to die."
The book opened beside him while the green marks across his face spread toward his neck. "You all have to die!"
The third eye on his forehead widened until blood began leaking from its edges. "Our God requires a sacrifice, and every life inside this place will be offered!"
The domain suddenly contracted and the curved barrier pulled inward, reducing the distance between Wuxia and the priest while the mist around them thickened.
The chains hanging above twisted together and formed a wall around the Green Priest, wuxia immediately sensed that something had changed.
Dozens of magic circles appeared beneath Varkhiel at once, he pushed away from the ground as green pillars erupted through the floor.
Most missed him, but one struck Varkhiel’s damaged leg and another tore through the armor around his waist.
Wuxia landed heavily near the edge of the shrinking domain as more cracks spread across the Soul Sentinel’s body.
Outside, the summoned spirits stopped attacking the living contestants and they turned toward the two dead soldiers lying near the broken defensive line.
Before anyone understood what was happening, several spirits seized the bodies and dragged them toward the domain. Another wrapped its chains around an unconscious contestant who had fallen away from the main group.
"Stop them!" the captain shouted.
The squad attacked immediately, but the spirits collapsed into green smoke before their weapons could reach them.
The two corpses and the unconscious contestant rose from the floor and their bodies broke apart into blood and mana, then crossed through the domain barrier and gathered around the Green Priest.
Several contestants froze as the unconscious student disappeared inside the swirling blood without even waking.
The priest spread his arms and absorbed everything, and his body began swelling as the stolen mana entered him. His arms and chest expanded beneath his torn clothes, while the veins across his skin turned dark green.
The density of mana inside the domain rose so quickly that the remaining walls began cracking.
Wuxia’s expression changed.
He is going to detonate himself.
Xingluo and the soldiers reached the same conclusion, the captain rushed toward the domain and struck the barrier with his weapon.
Miao Tianhe and Han Zhen attacked beside him, while the pink-haired girl released several ice spears against the same point.
The barrier shook but continued contracting around the priest, inside Wuxia raised Varkhiel’s sword and released another Eclipse Slash.
The black crescent struck the chains protecting the Green Priest and tore through several layers, but more immediately replaced them.
Wuxia rushed forward and brought the greatsword down with both hands and the barrier surrounding the priest bent beneath the impact, yet the mana building inside his body continued increasing.
The members of Squad Hellhound attacked from outside while Xingluo struck the domain repeatedly with her armored fists. None of them could break through before the priest completed the spell.
The captain turned toward the contestants. "Move back! Everyone get as far away as possible!"
There was nowhere to go, the entire compound remained trapped beneath the black dome, and the priest’s mana had already spread through most of the residential block.
Several weaker students collapsed as their legs gave way while others backed against the walls, staring at the swelling figure inside the domain.
Wuxia stopped attacking, even if they broke the barrier now, killing the priest would only trigger the explosion sooner.
"Xingluo."
She looked toward Varkhiel. "Tell everyone to gather together, now."
Xingluo did not question him. "Everyone, move to the centre!" she shouted. "Bring the wounded and stay close together!"
The contestants hesitated until the captain looked toward Varkhiel and understood what the summon intended.
"Do it!" he ordered. "Squad Hellhound, form the outer line!"
The soldiers immediately carried the injured toward the centre of the corridor. Those still capable of moving helped pull the unconscious and wounded together, while the contestants who had been hiding finally followed.
The remaining members of Squad Hellhound surrounded them with their shields raised.
The pink-haired girl stood inside the soldiers’ formation and drove her staff into the floor. Ice spread outward before rising into a thick dome around the gathered students.
Cracks appeared across its surface before the barrier had even finished forming, but she tightened both hands around the staff and continued pouring mana into it.
Xingluo stood beside Varkhiel as Wuxia opened the soul mark.
The Twin Demon Flood Dragons emerged together, their long soul bodies circled the ice dome before wrapping around it from opposite directions. They condensed their forms until their scales formed another defensive layer over the ice and soldiers.
The pressure inside the domain continued rising, the Green Priest’s body had swollen beyond its original size, and the blood surrounding him had merged with the symbols across the floor.
Wuxia looked at Varkhiel’s damaged armor, too much of the Soul Sentinel had already been destroyed, and the remaining two minutes of enhancement would not be enough to withstand the explosion in its current condition.
He opened the soul connection again and the Moonless Blood Panther and Nightweave Broodmother appeared briefly within Varkhiel’s soul space.
Wuxia did not hesitate as both Soul Soldiers broke apart and their condensed soul power entered Varkhiel, sealing the cracks across his armor and restoring the sections destroyed during the fight.
The Panther’s strength spread through his limbs, while the Broodmother’s remaining energy stabilised the damaged soul form.
The two connections disappeared permanently then Wuxia moved in front of the entire formation and raised the greatsword.
The Green Priest threw his head back as a scream mixed with laughter escaped from him. "You will all become offerings!"
The shrinking domain collapsed into his body and for an instant, every green symbol disappeared.
Then the priest detonated and the explosion tore through the remaining corridor and swallowed Varkhiel first.
Wuxia drove the greatsword into the ground and placed the full weight of the Soul Sentinel behind it. The first impact destroyed the restored armor across his arms and chest, while the force pushed him toward the formation behind him.
The Twin Flood Dragons tightened around the ice dome as the soldiers locked their shields together beneath them, the blast continued expanding.
Half of Varkhiel’s body scattered under the pressure, and Wuxia felt his connection to the physical world beginning to disappear.
The Flood Dragons released pained roars as their condensed scales were stripped away layer by layer. Beneath them, the ice barrier began melting while Squad Hellhound struggled to keep its formation intact.
For a moment, Wuxia believed the defence would collapse but then the pressure in front of him suddenly changed and the explosion stopped expanding.
Wuxia forced Varkhiel’s remaining eye open and saw a massive structure of compressed shadow surrounding the centre of the blast.
Thick black walls had closed around the explosion, trapping most of its power inside like a prison.
He looked through the torn roof, death Eye stood above the residential block with Professor Liang beside him.
The black dome around the compound had finally been breached, Death Eye descended through the broken roof before the last part of the explosion faded.
Wuxia released Descent and his soul form separated from Varkhiel as the Soul Sentinel collapsed to one knee and then vanished.
Most of its body had been destroyed, and the remaining armor immediately entered a sealed recovery state.
The Twin Flood Dragons loosened themselves from the defensive dome, both had lost large sections of their forms after absorbing the energy that escaped Death Eye’s containment, but their soul cores remained intact.
The ice barrier beneath them melted away as the soldiers lowered their shields, the contestants slowly looked around.
The corridor had been almost completely destroyed and walls had collapsed, the upper floors had been torn open, and blood covered the remaining ground, but the people gathered inside the formation were still alive.
Several students began crying once they understood that the attack had ended.
Others fell to the floor from exhaustion, while a few released unsteady cheers as the fear holding them finally broke.
Xingluo looked toward the collapsed Varkhiel before finding Wuxia’s soul form nearby. Only after confirming that he was still present did the tension leave her face.
