Chapter 55: Anomaly

The fighting continued through the corridor as more soldiers joined against the stronger contestants.

Xingluo had just blocked another strike when a scream rang out from one of the closed rooms farther down the hall.

A moment later, the door burst open and a man in black was thrown out with it and struck the opposite wall before falling beneath the broken metal.

Both of his legs were missing below the knees, and he remained unconscious as blood spread across the floor.

The fighting stopped for several seconds as everyone turned toward the room. A purple-haired boy stepped through the damaged doorway.

Xingluo recognised him as one of the contestants who had barely passed the earlier rounds. He had struggled throughout the competition and had only won his first match because his opponent had made a mistake.

Until now, he had always kept his head lowered and avoided attention buthis time, he slowly raised his face and a wide smile covered it.

The contestants nearby immediately felt uncomfortable, there was no fear or confusion in his expression, only excitement as he looked at the soldiers dressed in black.

The skin on his forehead split apart, and a third eye opened between his brows and green light moved inside its pupil.

Wuxia’s expression changed, unlike the soldiers carrying out the military test, the boy’s emotions were not controlled, his excitement, hatred, and fanaticism were real.

The purple-haired boy lifted one blood-covered hand. "Those who dare disrespect our God..."

His third eye moved across the corridor. "Those who dare impersonate the Church..."

He spread his arms while green mana gathered around his body. "I, the Green Priest of the Church, sentence you all to death."

A beam of green light rose from his third eye and a thick book formed above one hand and opened by itself, while a small green scythe appeared in the other. A chain connected its handle to his wrist and wrapped around his forearm.

His pressure began increasing, it passed the early stage of the second transition, rose through the middle stage, and continued until it reached the peak.

Even then, it did not stop, the pressure pushed against the boundary of the third transition, forcing several weaker contestants backward.

Xingluo stared at him, the boy they had considered one of the weakest candidates had hidden this much strength inside the military base.

Wuxia no longer treated the situation as part of the test. The fanaticism coming from the Green Priest was genuine, and the soldier lying without both legs proved that he had no intention of holding back.

Before the priest could attack, green-black energy erupted from his body and spread through the corridor.

The soldiers immediately released their suppressed strength. Those closest to the contestants stepped in front of them, while others pulled the injured behind the defensive line.

At the same time, Wuxia opened the soul mark connected to Xingluo, dark soul energy gathered in front of her and formed into Varkhiel.

The large knight raised his sword and planted himself between Xingluo and the approaching wave.

The attack struck a moment later, the corridor shook as doors, furniture, and broken sections of the wall were thrown backward. The soldiers formed barriers around the students, while Varkhiel absorbed the force in front of Xingluo.

His boots slid across the floor, but he remained standing, the pink-haired girl raised a wall of ice around several injured contestants.

Han Zhen covered another group with his shield, while Miao Tianhe pulled two unconscious students behind the soldiers.

When the wave passed, the contestants looked around in confusion. The men they had been fighting moments earlier were now protecting them, and their auras had become far stronger than before.

The soldier who had been frozen earlier broke through the ice covering his body and tore away the black robe hiding his armor.

"Squad Hellhound, assemble!" he shouted. "Protect the contestants!"

The other soldiers moved immediately, dome students still did not understand what was happening, but several had already realised that the original attack had only been a military assessment.

The Green Priest was not part of it, outside the residential complex, Death Eye and Professor Liang both felt the sudden increase in power.

They turned toward the building just as a massive wave spread from its centre and a black barrier rose from the ground and formed a dome around the entire compound.

Death Eye and Professor Liang disappeared from their positions and reached it almost immediately, but both struck the surface before they could enter.

The barrier remained solid, death Eye’s expression changed as he punched it with enough strength to crack the ground beneath him. "How did Church scum enter my military base?"

The dome shook but did not break.

Black smoke gathered on the other side and formed into a vague figure. "You cannot do anything, human."

A distorted voice came through the barrier. "This shield will endure for an hour, by the time it falls, my child will have slaughtered every piece you placed inside."

The figure laughed and death Eye attacked again, but the smoke dispersed before his fist reached it.

Professor Liang caught his arm before he could continue. "Stop, check what is happening inside first."

Death Eye glared at the barrier, but he opened the military surveillance system on his wrist. Several cameras had already stopped working, though one feed inside the residential corridor remained active.

The image appeared on the display, squad Hellhound had formed a defensive line around the remaining contestants.

The stronger students were helping carry the injured, while a large dark knight stood in front of Xingluo with a massive sword in its hands.

Neither Death Eye nor Professor Liang recognised it, but there was no time to question where it had come from.

Inside the corridor, the Green Priest laughed as he looked at the soldiers protecting the students. "You are all going to die."

The captain of Squad Hellhound stepped forward and removed the remains of his black disguise and his full aura spread through the corridor.

Several contestants with identification abilities immediately saw his information.

[Level: 199]

He stood at the peak of the second transition seeing this the fear among the students weakened slightly.

The Green Priest had revealed great strength, but the captain was an experienced military fighter who had already reached the limit of the same transition.

The captain drew his weapon and moved toward him but the Green Priest continued smiling. The captain crossed the distance and swung before most of the contestants could follow his movement.

The small chained scythe rose to meet him but as their weapons collided. The captain’s expression changed as the Green Priest stopped his attack with one hand.

The chain around the priest’s arm tightened as he pulled the captain forward and struck him in the chest, the force threw the Level 199 soldier across the corridor.

He broke through part of the defensive formation and struck the far wall, leaving a deep crater in the concrete before falling inside it.

The corridor went silent again and even the members of Squad Hellhound looked shocked. Their captain had released his full strength, yet he had been thrown away in a single exchange.

The Green Priest rolled the chain around his wrist and looked toward the contestants behind the soldiers. "You forced me to reveal myself before the proper time."

The book floating above his hand opened wider as green light spread across its pages. "But my sacrifice will not be wasted."

His third eye turned toward the students, varkhiel raised his sword while Wuxia moved closer to Xingluo.

The Green Priest laughed again. "None of you will leave this place alive."

Death Eye’s expression tightened as he watched the situation inside the barrier.

Professor Liang stared at the surveillance feed and cursed under his breath. "Damn it, that bastard is a Green Priest of the Church. How did he infiltrate the competition so easily?"

Death Eye took a slow breath and forced himself to remain calm. He turned toward the vice commander, who looked equally concerned.

"Find everything you can about that contestant," Death Eye ordered. "His registration, background, entry records, family, and anyone who contacted him before the competition."

The vice commander nodded. "Alert the entire base as well. Lock down every entrance and search for anyone connected to the Church."

"What about the barrier?" the vice commander asked.

"I will break it."

Death Eye looked back toward the black dome and clenched his fists. "Go, do not waste any more time."

The vice commander immediately turned and rushed toward the command centre.

Death Eye faced the surveillance feed again, the soldiers had already formed a defensive line around the remaining contestants, but the Green Priest was advancing toward them.

"Hold on," Death Eye muttered. "Just hold on until I get inside."

He stepped toward the barrier as his aura began rising again, Inside the residential block, however, the battle had already begun.
