Chapter 38: Oracle

Xingluo looked across the drained lake, the vanished moon and the destruction spread throughout the clearing.

Two massive dragon souls coiled above the broken lakebed, while an armored soldier knelt before Wuxia with its spear lowered.

Before she could understand any of it, golden light erupted around her body again and several level-up notifications rang through her mind one after another.

When the light finally faded, Xingluo looked at her new level, then back at Wuxia with complete confusion. "What the fuck did you do?"

Wuxia glanced at the kneeling soldiers before a small smile appeared on his face. "Well, Miss Xingluo, it seems our gamble worked."

He paused and looked at the destruction surrounding them. "Maybe it worked a little too well."

Xingluo stood up and brushed the dust from her clothes before looking across the destroyed lake and the soldiers surrounding Wuxia.

"I did not know the outside world was this exciting," she said, and a bright smile appeared on her face under the dim light coming from the Soul Soldiers.

Wuxia froze for a moment while looking at her, but before he could say anything, Xingluo suddenly turned toward the lake and pointed ahead.

"Time for the final rewards."

At the center of the drained lake, the broken platform was still standing, but the throne and the remains of the array had disappeared.

In their place, a rotating red gate floated above the platform, its surface turning slowly like a pool of dark blood.

A cold notification rang inside their minds before they could move closer.

[Mission completed.]

[Eternal Night Basin successfully cleared.]

[Dungeon erasure will begin in ten minutes.]

[Please leave the dungeon before the countdown ends.]

Hearing this, Wuxia immediately stored the two dragons, the Panther and the armored Soul Sentinel inside the mark on Xingluo’s forehead.

The empty lake began trembling around them as cracks spread across the remaining ground, making it clear that the dungeon had already started collapsing.

Xingluo hurried toward the platform and stopped in front of the red gate, then glanced back at Wuxia before stepping into the vortex.

Her vision twisted for a moment, and the feeling of the ground disappeared beneath her feet as Wuxia was pulled through with her.

When Xingluo opened her eyes again, a bright white light struck her face, forcing her to raise one hand before slowly looking around.

They were standing inside a completely white space with no visible walls, floor, or ceiling, yet their bodies remained stable as if solid ground existed beneath them.

A gentle female voice rang through the space a moment later.

[Congratulations on successfully completing the mission.]

[Dungeon-clear rewards are being processed.]

The white space in front of Xingluo began to ripple, and countless red particles gathered together in midair.

First came the chest plate, floating silently as its sharp crimson surface reflected the surrounding light.

Dark lines ran across the armor from the centre, connecting to black edges around the shoulders and waist, while a faint red glow moved beneath the metal.

The remaining pieces appeared one after another beside it, including the arm guards, leg guards, boots, and a narrow helmet with two backward-facing edges.

Each piece rotated slowly in the air before joining together into a complete armor set, suspended several feet in front of Xingluo.

A panel appeared beside it.

[Diamond-Tier Equipment Set Obtained.]

[Set Name: The Fall of Rahk.]

[Equipment Level Range: 80–200.]

[Current Equipment Level: 80.]

[Growth Method: Mana Crystals and Compatible Materials.]

Xingluo stared at the panel, and even Wuxia remained silent for several breaths.

Equipment with a level range was extremely rare because it could grow alongside its owner instead of becoming useless after a few level increases.

By feeding it mana crystals and suitable materials, its level and attributes could continue rising until it reached the upper limit of the equipment range.

This set could be used from Level 80 all the way to Level 200, carrying Xingluo through her entire second transition without needing to be replaced.

More importantly, it was Diamond-tier.

Even many final-year university students had never owned a complete Diamond-tier equipment set, especially one made for second-transition Awakened.

Equipment at that level was far more expensive than first-transition gear, and inside a smaller city like theirs, even a single Diamond-tier item could cause fierce competition at an auction.

Yet the reward floating in front of Xingluo was not one item, it was an entire growth-type set.

Xingluo slowly raised her hand toward the crimson armor, her earlier excitement disappearing as she stared at it in disbelief. "Wuxia..."

"I can see it," he replied, his gaze fixed on the reward. "And yes, it is real."

Just as Xingluo was staring at the crimson armor, another ripple appeared inside the white space.

A small red token slowly formed above the armor set, its surface covered in nine star-shaped marks arranged around a dark centre.

Unlike the equipment, the token did not release any mana, yet the moment it appeared, both Xingluo and Wuxia felt something lock onto them.

The gentle voice announcing the rewards disappeared, and the white space became completely silent.

Then another voice sounded, it was heavier than the system voice and carried a strange pressure that made Xingluo’s body stiffen.

[The Fate Star has been chosen.]

The nine marks across the token lit up one after another, but only the first gave off a complete glow.

The remaining eight remained dark, as though something inside them was still sleeping.

Xingluo looked at Wuxia in confusion. "Fate Star?"

Before he could answer, the token released a red beam that entered the space between her eyebrows.

Her vision darkened for a moment, and when she opened her eyes again, the white reward space had disappeared.

She found herself standing beneath a vast night sky filled with countless distant stars, while Wuxia remained beside her in his soul form.

A much larger star appeared above Xingluo, but unlike the others, it was covered by nine dark chains.

Then the oracle continued.

[When the Nine Stars lost their master, their light scattered across worlds unknown.]

[Their throne remained empty, their authority divided, and those who once served beneath them began searching for a successor.]

The chained star trembled, and one of the restraints around it slowly cracked.

[The one chosen by the first star shall walk through nine trials.]

[She shall claim their light, survive their judgment, and gather the authorities they left behind.]

Xingluo stared upward as another presence appeared beside the chained star.

It was not a normal star instead was a dark figure without light, surrounded by countless faint souls that seemed to kneel beneath it.

Wuxia’s expression changed slightly when he saw it, the oracle’s voice became deeper.

[Beside the Fate Star walks one who has already fallen beyond the path of fate.]

[The Dead Star carries no light recognised by the heavens, yet the souls beneath the heavens answer his call.]

[When the lightless star has gathered enough graves, which shall awaken the heir before the throne, or the king buried beneath it?]

The dark star moved closer to the chained one, and the distance between them disappeared as an invisible thread connected both sides.

[One shall command the Nine Stars.]

[One shall command the dead beneath their light.]

[Their paths have already crossed, and until the bond between them is broken, their trials shall no longer remain separate.]

Xingluo slowly turned toward Wuxia, but his gaze remained fixed on the dark star representing him.

Even he could not understand how this strange oracle knew about his existence or the authority hidden inside his class.

The nine-star token appeared again, floating between them as several panels opened around it.

[Fate Star Token obtained.]

[Chosen Successor: Luo Xingluo.]

[Bound Existence recognised: Shen Wuxia.]

[Personal Trial detected.]

[Trial Name: Ninefold Star Descent.]

[Trial Gate will open in seven days.]

Xingluo’s eyes widened after reading the final line. "Another dungeon?"

Wuxia looked at the panels carefully before answering. "It seems more like an inheritance trial."

The oracle confirmed his suspicion before he could examine the token further.

[This trial exists only for the chosen Fate Star.]

The dark space around them changed again as nine enormous doors appeared beneath the chained star, but only the first door carried a faint red glow.

Behind it, Xingluo could barely see broken land, falling stars, and the outline of something waiting at the centre.

[The first trial shall examine strength, judgment, and the will to carry authority.]

[Enter within twenty-four hours after the gate opens.]

[Failure to enter will cause the Fate Star Token to disappear.]

[Failure inside the trial will result in the loss of the first star’s recognition.]

Xingluo’s expression became serious as she listened, while Wuxia studied the first door and the darkness surrounding it.

The trial was clearly meant for her, but there was no level range, difficulty grade, or information about what waited inside.

Then the final panel appeared in front of Xingluo.

[Hidden Talent Awakening Trial detected.]

[Unawakened Talent: Lord of the Nine Stars.]

[Current Awakening Progress: 0%.]

[Complete the first trial to begin awakening.]

For several breaths, Xingluo did not speak, she had already awakened before entering university and nothing during her examinations had shown that another talent remained hidden inside her.

Yet the panel in front of her was not only claiming that she had one, but that it carried a name connected to the nine chained stars above them.

Wuxia stared at the talent name before his eyes narrowed slightly. "Lord of the Nine Stars..."

The moment he spoke the name, all nine doors shook, and the dark star above him released a faint pulse in response.

The vision shattered immediately afterward and Xingluo returned to the white reward space, standing in front of the floating crimson armor while the red token slowly descended toward her hand.

The moment her fingers closed around it, the nine star-shaped marks disappeared from its surface, leaving only a single glowing symbol.

[Ninefold Star Descent: 6 Days, 23 Hours, 59 Minutes.]

Xingluo looked at the countdown before turning toward Wuxia. "We barely finished one Hell Mode dungeon."

Wuxia continued staring at the token, his expression more serious than before. "And now we have seven days to prepare for something that does not even show its difficulty."

Xingluo remained silent for a moment before gripping the token more tightly, then a small smile appeared on her face. "At least this one gave us a warning first."

Wuxia sighed, but his gaze returned to the words still floating above the token.

[Unawakened Talent: Lord of the Nine Stars.]

Whatever waited behind that first gate, completing it would change Xingluo far more than the levels and equipment they had gained inside the Eternal Night Basin.
