Chapter 31: Shocking reward
Shen Wuxia held the extraction threads tight as the Panther’s soul kept pulling back from inside the corpse.
Just when Wuxia felt the connection about to tear apart, the Panther’s dead body suddenly twitched.
Blue and red flame-like lines erupted from beneath its fur, spreading across the corpse before rushing upward into the struggling soul outline.
The black soul body trembled once, then let out a roar that shook the glowing grass around them.
The blue and red lines wrapped around its frame, slowly fusing together until the unstable outline became solid.
A massive red Panther with dark-blue stripes appeared above the corpse, its body made from condensed soul power instead of flesh.
Its paws landed silently on the ground, but the pressure it released was completely different from the ordinary low-grade Soul Soldiers.
The surrounding wolves lowered their heads almost at once and even the Black Stone Armored Bear and the bull-shaped Soul Soldier subtly bent their bodies, as if acknowledging something above them.
At the same time, a system voice rang inside Shen Wuxia’s mind.
[Soul Extraction successful.]
[Soul Power Points Extracted: 500]
[Mid-Tier Soul Soldier formed.]
[Congratulations. You have formed your first Mid-Tier Soul Soldier.]
[Reward: 500 Soul Power Points.]
Shen Wuxia stared at the panel for a moment and even Xingluo froze beside him.
Compared to the ten or twenty Soul Power Points from most elite beasts, five hundred from a single mini boss was on a completely different level.
And the system had even rewarded him another five hundred for forming his first Mid-Tier Soul Soldier.
The pain in Wuxia’s head had not fully faded yet, but a small smile still appeared on his face, this risk had been worth it.
Just then, another voice rang inside his mind. I bow to Master.
Shen Wuxia’s expression changed slightly, and his gaze immediately turned toward the red Panther.
The Panther had already lowered its body, both front legs pressed against the ground in an unmistakable bow.
Its blood-red eyes were calm now, without the wild hatred it had shown before death, Wuxia looked at it silently for a few breaths before speaking through the soul connection.
Is it you?
The Panther lowered its head even more.
Indeed, Master.
For a moment, even Wuxia did not answer. Low-grade Soul Soldiers only followed orders through instinct and control, but this Panther could respond clearly.
It was not only stronger and even had intelligence, Wuxia narrowed his eyes slightly as he questioned it Do you remember your life before this?
The Panther remained kneeling. I remember nothing except that Master created me.
Hearing that, Shen Wuxia released a quiet breath, that was good. If these Soul Soldiers remembered everything from when they were alive, controlling them would be much harder.
Some might even resist or rebel if their will remained too strong but from the Panther’s answer, Mid-Tier Soul Soldiers seemed to have awareness without retaining personal memory.
They could think, speak through the connection, and act with more judgment, but their loyalty still came from the soul contract itself.
Xingluo slowly walked closer while looking at the Panther with wide eyes.
"I thought you were going to vanish again," she said, glancing at Wuxia. "The way you were trembling looked worse than last time."
Wuxia turned toward her. "Your concern sounds very touching."
"It was concern," Xingluo said, then looked back at the Panther and gave a small smile. "But it seems you got the little kitty."
She reached out and touched the Panther’s head carefully and the red Panther did not resist. It only lowered its head slightly, allowing her hand to rest against its soul body.
Shen Wuxia looked toward the deeper part of the Eternal Night Basin, where the faint glow of the forest slowly gathered around the distant lake.
After a moment, he closed the panel and said, "It is time for the real hunt."
Xingluo turned toward him. "Real hunt?"
"We need to find the boss," Wuxia said calmly. "It has already been more than a week, and we cannot stay here forever."
Hearing that, Xingluo’s expression also became serious.
The rewards inside this dungeon were terrifying, but the danger was just as abnormal. Even after leveling up and gaining new equipment, she still did not dare to treat this place casually.
"So where do we go?" she asked.
Wuxia floated slightly higher and looked across the glowing forest. "I am not completely sure, but I have a good guess."
He raised his hand and pointed toward the lake at the center of the basin.
"The terrain keeps pushing everything toward that direction," he said. "The stronger beasts also seem to appear closer to the center. If this dungeon has a boss area, it is most likely near that lake."
Xingluo followed his gaze and saw the faint reflection of blue light far beyond the trees.
Even from this distance, the lake looked too quiet, in a dungeon like this, that kind of quiet usually meant danger.
Wuxia glanced at her and said, "Get on the Panther."
Xingluo’s eyes immediately brightened. "I can ride it?"
"It is much faster than you," Wuxia replied. "And if we are heading toward the center, walking will waste too much time."
Before he finished speaking, Xingluo had already jumped onto the Moonless Blood Panther’s back.
The Panther gently shifted its body to balance her weight, lowering its stance just enough so she could sit properly without slipping.
Xingluo placed one hand against its neck and felt the cold, dense soul power beneath her palm.
Compared to normal beasts, it did not breathe, and its body did not move like flesh, but the strength under her hand was extremely clear.
Wuxia looked at the Panther and spoke through the soul connection. "Run straight toward the lake."
"Kill anything that blocks the way," Wuxia added.
A low roar came from the Panther’s throat, and the nearby Soul Soldiers lowered their heads slightly in response.
Wuxia waved his hand, and the remaining bear, bull, and wolf-shaped Soul Soldiers turned into dark streams before returning to the mark on Xingluo’s forehead.
Only the Moonless Blood Panther remained outside, Xingluo tightened her grip around the Panther’s fur-like soul body and leaned forward slightly. "I am ready."
The beast’s paws struck the glowing ground once, and the next instant, its body burst forward like a red shadow tearing through the forest.
The surrounding trees blurred past them, and the dim plants along the ground bent under the pressure of its speed.
Xingluo’s eyes widened for a moment before she quickly lowered her body and held on tighter.
The Moonless Blood Panther did not run like an ordinary mount.
It slipped between trees, leapt over roots, crossed uneven ground without losing speed, and occasionally vanished in a short blur before appearing several meters ahead.
Shen Wuxia floated beside them, connected through the soul mark, his gaze fixed toward the distant lake.
Several beasts hidden in the forest sensed them and tried to block the path, but the Panther did not slow down.
One Level 72 Thorn Wolf lunged from the side, and the Panther tore through its neck without even changing direction.
A horned beast rushed out from the bushes ahead, but the Panther stepped onto its back and crushed its spine beneath one paw before leaping forward again.
Xingluo looked back at the bodies vanishing behind them and slowly smiled, with this Soul Soldier moving through the Dungeon no longer felt like crawling through a death trap.
