Chapter 28: Discovering and Recovering

As Xingluo teleported again, the ground vanished beneath her feet for a moment before her body dropped with a heavy thud.

Instead of landing on stone, she fell onto something soft, and her whole body sank slightly before bouncing once.

Xingluo groaned and pushed herself up with one hand, only to realize she had landed on a massive flower.

Its petals were wide enough to hold her entire body, glowing faintly with pale blue lines that spread toward the center like veins.

Around her, the forest stretched in every direction, filled with strange plants, hanging vines, and trees that gave off faint light beneath the dark sky.

For a moment, Xingluo forgot the pain and looked around with slightly widened eyes.

Shen Wuxia glanced at her expression and sighed. "You better not get mesmerized. You just barely survived."

Hearing this, Xingluo immediately came back to herself and tried to stand, but pain ran through her right arm the moment she moved.

She flinched and looked down, only then noticing that the right side of her armor had been almost completely torn apart.

The plate was cracked from shoulder to waist, with deep claw marks cutting through the surface and several broken pieces barely hanging on.

Xingluo slowly removed the ruined armor, and her face twisted when she saw the damage properly. "Damn it. So much money gone in one moment."

She turned the broken armor over once before throwing it aside with a tired expression, there was no chance of repairing it now.

Shen Wuxia looked at the armor, then at her injured arm, and only sighed. "Do not worry about it now. Change your equipment and drink some potions first."

Xingluo nodded weakly. "Yeah."

She took out another set of armor from the storage space, then drank two recovery potions before sitting down near the giant flower’s edge.

While she recovered, Shen Wuxia floated slightly higher and looked around the forest.

He ran through everything he knew, but he had never heard of a low-level dungeon with terrain like this.

Eternal night, glowing vegetation, large-scale terrain, Hell Mode restriction, and now even a Level 95 mini-boss appearing near the entry zone.

Even at his peak, if he had entered this place with his old guild team, he could not say they would clear it with absolute certainty.

Half an hour slowly passed like this, Xingluo’s breathing became steadier, and the potions healed most of the shallow injuries across her body.

Her right arm still hurt, and her exhaustion had not disappeared, but at least she could move without feeling like her body would collapse.

At last, she broke the silence and looked toward Shen Wuxia. "What do we do next?"

Wuxia turned back toward her. "Now, you hunt."

Xingluo blinked. "Hunt?"

"This dungeon is Hell Mode and under a special restriction," Wuxia said calmly. "The danger is high, but the rewards should also be much higher than normal."

Xingluo slowly nodded, then looked toward the deeper forest with a guarded expression. "That is fine, but we better not meet another mini-boss or some strong elite monster."

Wuxia shrugged. "That depends on luck."

"That does not make me feel better."

"It was not meant to."

Xingluo clicked her tongue before opening her status screen. "I should check how far I am from the next level first."

Her eyes moved across the panel, and then she suddenly stopped. "Damn."

Wuxia looked at her. "What?"

"Killing above my level really gives a lot," Xingluo said, her tired eyes brightening slightly. "I am only five percent away from the next level."

She looked at the number again before adding, "That single beast outside gave me almost as much as clearing a whole school dungeon with my party."

Shen Wuxia nodded slightly after hearing that, he understood this point better than most people.

Exhausted dungeons barely gave meaningful rewards, and after the gains were split between a team, most students could spend days grinding without seeing much change.

That was why the wild was dangerous but attractive and a dungeon like this was even more extreme, being both a massive reward and a death trap at the same time.

Just as Wuxia was thinking, a faint rustling sound came from the glowing bushes nearby and both of them became alert at once.

The next moment, a pink-colored wolf stepped out from between the plants, its fur shining faintly beneath the dark forest light.

It was not very large compared to the wolves outside, but the mana around its body was much cleaner and sharper.

The moment it saw Xingluo, it lowered its body and let out a low growl,s system panel appeared before her eyes.

The Roseglow Thorn Wolf moved first, rushing through the glowing grass with surprising speed.

Xingluo stepped aside before it reached her, letting its claws scrape against her new armor while her longsword cut across its side.

The wolf twisted in midair and bit toward her wrist, but Xingluo raised her guard and slammed the hilt into its jaw before it could lock its teeth.

It landed badly, and Xingluo followed at once, stepping on its front leg before driving her sword through its throat.

The wolf struggled for a few breaths, then stopped moving completely.

Seeing her kill it without his help, Shen Wuxia showed a faint smile. "You have improved."

Xingluo pulled the sword free and breathed out. "Compared to today, even Professor Liang’s class feels gentle."

"That means you are learning."

"That means I am suffering."

Shen Wuxia ignored her complaint and floated toward the Roseglow Thorn Wolf’s corpse.

He raised one hand, and the familiar cold pull appeared inside his soul again.

Dark threads rose from the wolf’s body and gathered around his palm, quickly draining the remaining soul power from the corpse.

The wolf’s flesh dried at a visible speed, and a system voice rang inside his mind.

So the minimum condition for Soul Soldier extraction should be an elite beast.

He chose yes without hesitation, the dark threads sank back into the corpse, and a wolf-shaped soul slowly rose from it, its form smaller and sharper than the living beast.

Its body was made from dark soul power, but faint rose-colored lines still remained across its back like traces of its original nature.

The newly formed Soul Soldier opened its eyes and lowered its head before Shen Wuxia.

Xingluo froze. "One hundred?"

Her expression changed even more after hearing that word.

Shen Wuxia gave a faint laugh and looked toward the glowing forest ahead. "Do not look so shocked, this is good."

The wolf-shaped Soul Soldier moved to his side, quiet and obedient.

Wuxia’s gaze swept across the dark trees, and his smile became colder. "It is hunting time, we are going to run this forest dry."

Xingluo looked at the Soul Soldier, then at the sword in her hand, and slowly nodded.

A few moments later, she stepped into the glowing forest with Shen Wuxia beside her and the wolf-shaped Soul Soldier moving ahead.

From that point on, the quiet forest slowly became a hunting ground.
