Chapter 19: Formalities

After bidding farewell to her mother, Xingluo left the house and walked toward the bus stop, while Shen Wuxia floated behind her.

The snow-covered street was still quiet, and the cold wind made her pull her coat tighter around herself.

Shen Wuxia looked at her for a moment before speaking with a faint smile. "So, Miss Bear, are you tired from walking?"

Xingluo stopped for half a step, then gave him a threatening look. "I am not tired, but you better watch that tongue of yours before it cuts you."

Shen Wuxia raised both hands slightly and said, "I was only joking."

Xingluo snorted and continued walking, though her jaw was still clenched from embarrassment.

"Anyway, we still have things to do," Shen Wuxia said. "Go back to your dorm, set the Dominion Runes into your equipment, and check the map."

He paused for a moment before adding, "Also, look at the location of the dungeon that old man mentioned."

Xingluo sighed and nodded. "Yeah, and I also need to tell Professor Liang before leaving."

After reaching the bus stop, she boarded the bus back to Beichen University and spent the ride thinking about the trip outside the city.

By the time she reached her dorm and opened the door, three familiar faces were already inside.

Yun Xia sat on the bed, Su Lan stood near the desk, and Ruan Mei leaned against the wall with a drink in her hand.

Xingluo froze at the entrance before her face slowly darkened. "I already said I do not want you guys invading my room when I am not here."

Yun Xia stood up and waved one hand casually. "Duh, we just arrived a while ago and did not find you, so we decided to wait inside."

Xingluo looked at her dryly. "That is still called invading."

Yun Xia ignored that and leaned closer with bright curiosity. "Where did you go anyway? Were you talking to Young Master Qin?"

Hearing Qin Haoran’s name, Shen Wuxia frowned slightly and a strange thought passed through his mind.

He did not speak, only floated to the side and quietly watched Xingluo’s reaction.

Xingluo’s expression cooled at once. "No, also I am not going to that dungeon anymore."

Yun Xia’s face stiffened slightly, but before she could speak, Ruan Mei leaned against Xingluo’s shoulder and asked, "So you went to see your mother?"

The topic changed too quickly for the room to stay tense, and Xingluo’s expression softened as she nodded.

Shen Wuxia glanced toward Yun Xia and noticed her fingers clenching tightly for a brief moment.

After that, the girls sat down and talked for a while, though Xingluo did not mention anything about leaving the city.

She only thanked them for visiting her and helping during the past few days. When the conversation slowly became dull, Yun Xia was the first to leave, and the others followed not long afterward.

After they left, Xingluo sat down on the chair with a tired sigh, but the dorm door rang again before she could relax.

She stood up and opened it, only to see Professor Liang standing outside.

Xingluo hurriedly greeted him and stepped aside, while Professor Liang entered with a warm smile. "No need to be so formal, I heard you were sick, so I came to check on you."

After sitting down, he gestured for Xingluo to sit as well, and she quickly took the chair across from him.

Professor Liang looked at her for a moment before saying, "Take care of yourself and practice properly, I have high hopes for you."

Xingluo lowered her head slightly. "I understand, Professor."

"The competition I mentioned before has already been fixed," Professor Liang continued. "It is a city military competition, and it will be held in 14 days."

Xingluo’s eyes changed slightly, but she still nodded. "I will become stronger before then."

Professor Liang spoke a little more about the competition and her health before finally standing up to leave.

Just as he was about to reach the door, Xingluo suddenly spoke. "Professor, can I get a longer leave?"

Professor Liang stopped and turned back toward her. "Why do you need leave?"

Xingluo took a breath, then explained that she planned to go outside the city for hunting and training.

As she spoke, Professor Liang’s eyes slowly became more serious. After she finished, he looked at her for several breaths before saying, "You know the outside is dangerous."

Xingluo nodded. "I know."

Professor Liang continued, "Out there, you will face dangers you have not usually faced, and one mistake can kill you."

Xingluo stayed silent for a moment, then nodded again.

Professor Liang looked at her more deeply before releasing a quiet breath. "Student Luo, I have never casually allowed a student to take long leave for this kind of thing."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "But I was once a veteran soldier, and my intuition has saved me more times than rules have."

Xingluo looked up at him, her fingers tightening slightly against her knees. "So I agree," Professor Liang said.

Xingluo’s eyes brightened at once, and she quickly bowed. "Thank you, Professor."

"When are you leaving?" he asked.

"Tomorrow morning," Xingluo answered without hesitation.

Professor Liang looked at her again. "Have you prepared everything?"

Xingluo nodded. "Yes."

Professor Liang gave her one final look, then turned toward the door. "Good luck, Student Luo."

Just before leaving, he stopped once more and glanced back at her. "Remember this," he said calmly. "There is a thin line between courage and madness, and between calculation and error."

Xingluo’s expression became confused, but Professor Liang only continued in the same steady voice. "And sometimes, the thing that looks like a thread of fate may only be a snake waiting to move."

After saying that, he closed the door behind him, leaving Xingluo standing in the room with a puzzled expression.

Seeing Xingluo’s confused expression, Shen Wuxia sighed and glanced toward the closed door.

"Do you not understand? Professor Liang probably sensed something wrong that day when you lasted so long against the puppet."

Hearing this, Xingluo’s expression became tense. "Could he know about you?"

Shen Wuxia chuckled faintly and shook his head. "How could he? No sane person, or even a normal insane one, would guess our current situation."

He looked at her with a dry expression before adding, "Even if you told him, he might think you were making excuses for bad sleep."

Xingluo sighed in relief, but her ears turned slightly red as she remembered how suspicious she must have looked that day.

Shen Wuxia did not tease her further and only floated toward the table. "Anyway, it is good that you got the leave, normally it would not be that easy."

Xingluo nodded and sat down on the chair. "Yeah, I did not know Professor Liang had this kind of side."

"We rarely know everything about the people around us," Shen Wuxia replied calmly. "Now stop thinking about it and bring out your equipment."

Hearing this, Xingluo’s expression became more serious, and she took out the Level 80 longsword Professor Liang had given her.

The red blade landed gently on the table, its surface still carrying a faint golden glow beneath the dorm light.

Rune inscription was not simple, and there were masters in the city who could handle it far more safely.

But going to them would attract attention, cost time, and raise questions about why a Level 68 student had so many high-grade Dominion Runes and weapons,

So Xingluo could only do it herself under Shen Wuxia’s guidance, she took out the first rune packet, opened it carefully, and placed the thin silver rune strip beside the sword.

Shen Wuxia floated closer, his gaze settling on her hands. "Do not rush. If the rune slips, the backlash will hit you first."

Xingluo swallowed once, then nodded and lowered her fingers toward the blade.
