Chapter 16: Drama

Hearing this, Qin Haoran’s name suddenly appeared inside Shen Wuxia’s mind, but even he felt that thought was a little ridiculous at first.

Mana Poisoning Antidotes were not common stock, but each base city still received a few hundred every supply cycle for emergencies.

After thousands of years of mana assimilation, mana poisoning had already become rare, so ordinary people rarely needed those potions unless they met corrupted mana or unstable dungeon residue.

Because of that, buying out all the stock in one morning was not something a normal person would ever do without a reason.

But after thinking about Qin Haoran, Shen Wuxia’s expression slowly turned colder, because that bastard was exactly the kind of person who could do it.

For an ordinary family, buying hundreds of antidotes would be an impossible fortune, but for the Qin Family, it was not even a costly move.

And Qin Haoran had already shown what kind of person he was. If he wanted something, he would first cut off every other path.

While Shen Wuxia thought through this, Xingluo’s face had already turned pale, and her fingers tightened around the counter until her knuckles lost color.

He understood why she reacted like this, because if someone suffering from mana poisoning missed the proper treatment window, the poison could reflux through the mana veins.

Once that happened, the patient’s condition could worsen in a single night, and in severe cases, it could even kill them.

Shen Wuxia’s gaze lowered slightly, and the anger inside him became quieter instead of louder. If Qin Haoran had really done this, then he had not only set a trap for Xingluo.

He had also put every ordinary patient in the city who needed those antidotes at risk.

Just then, the young attendant behind the counter hesitated and spoke again in a lower voice.

"If you need it urgently, we do have something new. It is a prototype stabilizer, and the effects are much better than common antidotes."

Xingluo’s eyes lifted at once, and even her grip on the counter loosened slightly.

The attendant continued quickly, "It can suppress mana poisoning, reduce the pain, and in some cases, even clear the contaminated mana completely."

Hearing that, Xingluo’s expression brightened for a moment, but caution soon returned to her eyes. "Does it have any side effects?" she asked.

The attendant shook her head. "No. It has already passed the Awakeners Center’s safety tests, and the materials used are all high-quality."

She paused awkwardly before adding, "The only problem is that the price is a little high."

Xingluo glanced toward Shen Wuxia from the corner of her eyes. Shen Wuxia looked at her and gave a small nod. "Ask."

Seeing his support, Xingluo turned back toward the attendant. "How much is one dose?"

The attendant’s expression became guilty as she lowered her voice. "Five million credits per dose."

Xingluo froze, that price was almost ten times higher than even a mid-grade Mana Poisoning Antidote, and for a moment, she could not even speak.

Seeing her reaction, the attendant hurriedly said, "I am sorry, Miss. That is the listed price, but if you are short by a little, I can use my employee discount."

Before Xingluo could respond, Shen Wuxia spoke quietly beside her. "Do not worry about the money."

Even though his tone remained calm, Shen Wuxia himself was not completely unaffected.

The black card had around thirty million credits inside, and that was most of the money he had hidden away after years of missions and dungeon raids.

Still, if the stabilizer could help Xingluo’s mother, then this was not the time to hesitate. Xingluo clenched the black card for a moment, then slowly nodded.

But just as she was about to speak, a sharp snort came from behind them. "Xu Xue, the employee discount is not some mercy token for every beggar who walks in."

The young attendant’s face stiffened at once. Xingluo turned around and saw a mature woman walking toward the counter, her badge clearly marking her as a senior employee.

The woman glanced at Xingluo’s plain clothes, then at the old weapon by her side, and her expression became even more dismissive.

"You should learn what kind of customer you are serving," she said coldly. "Some people cannot afford what they ask for."

Xingluo’s fingers tightened around the black card, but she did not speak immediately.

The woman looked her over once more before adding, "If you cannot purchase what you want, stop wasting the trading hall’s time."

Shen Wuxia’s eyes turned cold as he looked at her, he had seen enough to understand what was happening.

A moment earlier, that woman had failed to close a deal with a fat bald merchant across the hall, and now she was taking her frustration out on a new trainee and a customer she thought was weak.

The senior employee’s gaze suddenly fell on the storage bracelet near Xingluo’s wrist, and the disdain in her eyes deepened.

"Xu Xue, are you ridiculous?" she said coldly. "Storage bracelets are used for valuable customers, not every passerby who asks for trinkets."

Xu Xue’s fingers tightened around the tablet, but before she could answer, the woman’s eyes moved toward the item list on the screen.

Her voice almost broke into a sharp scream. "Twelve high-grade Dominion Runes? Do you even know what these are worth?"

Several nearby customers turned their heads after hearing that, and the noise around the counter dropped by a small amount.

The woman pointed at the sealed rune case with an ugly expression. "You should not take out rare goods for people who may not even afford one of them."

Hearing her mock Xingluo again, Shen Wuxia’s gaze turned colder, but Xu Xue spoke before he could say anything.

"I know what I am doing, Senior," Xu Xue said, her voice trembling slightly but still clear. "I am serving my customer according to the order she placed."

The woman’s expression stiffened, but Xu Xue continued while holding the tablet closer to her chest.

"I believe in my job, and I believe customers should be treated properly before payment is judged. I passed the Center’s test before standing here."

The senior employee’s face darkened at once, clearly offended that a trainee had dared to answer her in front of others.

Before she could speak again, a deep voice came from behind the counter area. "What is going on here?"

The staff nearby straightened almost immediately as a back door opened, and an old man in a tailored suit walked into the trading hall.

His silver badge carried the title of Vice Leader, and the noise near the counter dropped even further the moment he appeared.

The senior employee reacted first and hurried toward him with an aggrieved expression.

"Vice Leader Wang, this trainee is arguing with me and violating protocol. She took out rare goods without confirming whether the customer had purchasing ability."

Xu Xue’s face turned pale, and her eyes reddened slightly as the old man looked toward her. But before he could ask anything, Xingluo placed her hand on the counter with a clear sound.

"Vice Leader Wang," she said, reading the name on his badge. "I do not believe I need to prove my purchasing power before being treated like a customer."

The senior employee’s expression twisted, but Xingluo did not give her the chance to interrupt.

"Your employee insulted me, insulted your trainee, and questioned an order I had not even finished paying for."

Xingluo slowly lifted her hand from the counter, revealing the black card resting beneath her palm.

"If this is how the Awakeners Center handles clients, then I may need to reconsider where I spend my money today."

The senior employee’s face changed, but anger still came faster than fear. "You dare—"

A sharp slap rang across the counter before she could finish, the entire area fell silent.

Vice Leader Wang had struck her himself, and the woman stood frozen with one hand pressed against her cheek.

The next moment, he turned toward Xingluo and bowed with a controlled expression. "I apologize for this oversight, Miss. The Awakeners Center will handle the matter properly."

His gaze shifted toward the senior employee, and the warmth in his face disappeared at once. "Take her away," he said to the guards nearby. "Suspend her access and wait for internal review."

The guards moved immediately, and the woman finally panicked as they dragged her away from the counter.

Vice Leader Wang then looked toward Xu Xue, whose eyes were still red, and his tone softened by a small amount. "You will follow us and continue assisting this customer."

Xu Xue froze for a moment before quickly lowering her head. "Yes, Vice Leader."

Vice Leader Wang turned back toward Xingluo and gestured toward the inner staircase. "Please allow me to serve you personally in one of our private rooms."

Xingluo nodded calmly, but the moment she turned away from the counter, her legs trembled hard enough that only the cloak hid it.

She glanced toward Shen Wuxia, and for once, even he looked slightly surprised. "You handled that better than expected," he said, a faint smile appearing on his face.

Xingluo kept her face straight. "I nearly died inside."

"I noticed," Shen Wuxia replied. "Still, even I was not that dominant when I first used that card."

She lowered her eyes toward the black card in her hand, then looked back at Shen Wuxia with clear suspicion. "What truly is this card?"
