Chapter 366: What in the Hellhole Is Happening?
Outside the hideout of the Slave Trade Guild, dozens of Sandroach Guards had gathered.
The atmosphere was solemn.
Heavy.
No human could be found in sight.
The Sandroach Guards were in neat formation, each holding their weapon firmly and a shield on their left arm.
Their carapaces and shells shone under the moonlight. The air pulsated faintly under an invisible pressure.
Standing at the forefront of the guards was the Sandroach Chief. He stood tall, imposing beyond the guards behind him.
His aura twisted the air around him. His antennae twitched slightly, and his dark shell had a light luster that made it different from the others.
"Come out!" he commanded loudly in the human language.
Since the commotion started in his town, he had been looking for the perpetrator and wanted to make them pay.
Although most of the attacks were targeted at humans, that did not reduce his anger.
As the ruler of the town, such blatant provocation undermined his authority, which he was trying desperately to build.
If he was going to stand toe to toe with the Horned Lizard Clan and the Scorpion Clan, this was a chance to prove his might.
Human or not.
He must capture them and hang their heads on his town gate.
The Sandroach Guards behind him stood silently, their breathing low and controlled.
They forced themselves to stand firm despite the rage boiled deep inside their hearts.
While he was seething in rage, gripping his spiked club tightly, the door to the Slave Trade Guild hideout was pushed open from the inside.
From inside, a young man stepped out in slow, unhurried steps.
His silver hair swayed gently with the desert wind, and his deep blue eyes locked on the Sandroach Chief.
Feeling his gaze, the Sandroach Chief’s expression faltered for a moment. His instinct screamed of impending danger.
His antennae swayed vehemently. His muscles contracted under their shell.
He looked at the harmless human and could not understand how such a human could give him such an intimidating feeling.
The feeling made him almost subservient from the depths of his soul.
’Is this a human or a beast?’ his thoughts raced.
The young man before him did not release any terrifying aura.
Yet, every part of the Sandroach Chief’s body warned him not to take another careless step forward.
This was not fear born from weakness.
This was instinct.
The same instinct that had helped him survive countless battles against beasts, humans, and rival Carapace clans.
"Are you looking for me?" Thoren asked in a slow, calm voice.
For a moment, the Sandroach Chief did not respond. Not that he did not want to respond. He did not know how to respond.
The feeling the human was giving told another story entirely. He knew if he acted rashly, he might not walk out of this street alive.
He might be a Level 37 Sandroach with many ace attacks under his sleeve.
Still, his instinct screamed that it was not enough.
Thus...
His grip on his weapon softened a bit. He opened his mouth, showing his small rows of sharp teeth, but closed it.
Behind him, the Sandroach Elite Guards stared at his back in confusion.
They expected their chief to launch a full frontal attack on the human, but looking at him now, their confusion deepened.
Why was their chief hesitating?
Why was he standing still before a single human?
The Sandroach Chief cleared his throat like a human, and his expression turned serious once again.
"Why did you attack my town?" he asked in a deep voice.
"So, are you here to capture me?" Thoren asked calmly.
His gaze never left the Sandroach Chief’s face. It was as if he was trying to bore his eyes deep into his soul.
Feeling his piercing gaze, the Sandroach Chief trembled, but he managed to maintain the contact.
"I just want to know why you attacked my town. You have disrupted the town’s peace."
"If you are curious, you can come inside and join us. I am currently having a heart to heart meeting with someone you might know," Thoren said casually and turned to walk back inside the building.
Looking at how casually the human reacted before their chief, the Elite Guards could not believe their eyes.
Their hands tightened on their weapons and shields as they could not wait to rush forward to teach this ignorant human the lesson of his life.
Unfortunately, without the command of their chief, they could not step over their boundary.
The Sandroach Chief stood silently for a breath.
He felt as if the moment he gave the wrong command, the entire street would become another slaughter ground.
Before they could understand what was going on, their Chief walked forward in slow, steady steps.
Hmm?
The Sandroach Chief did not care about the thoughts of his Elite Guards as he approached the wooden door.
Creak!
He pushed open the door and lowered his body to enter.
Inside the chamber, the Slave Trade Guild Captain was filled with shock.
When she heard the heavy footsteps, her heart could not help but race with anticipation.
’Hahaha. The gods have not forsaken me. Hahaha,’ she laughed in her heart as she watched Thoren leave the room.
’Hahaha. Let us see how the Grim Reaper fares against the Sandroach Elite Guards,’ she sneered inwardly.
However, to her shock, the expected battle sounds did not echo.
No roar came from outside.
No weapons clashed.
No walls shook.
No screams erupted.
The silence became so strange that her heart began to sink.
Before she could even wrap her head around what was going on, Thoren had returned.
Hmm?
She widened her eyes, filled with confusion. But then, the door was pushed open once again, and behold, the Sandroach Chief entered.
She raised her head and looked at the Sandroach Chief, and their eyes met.
’For fuck’s sake. What in the hellhole is happening?’ she screamed with all her might inside her mind.
