Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Hidden Attribute

Ye Yun smiled and clapped Bena on the shoulder, saying,

"Not bad. You’ve recovered very well!"

Bena quickly bowed his head.

"It’s all thanks to the precious medicine you bestowed upon me, Manager. Otherwise, how could I possibly have recovered overnight..."

Seeing that he was about to launch into another long-winded speech of gratitude, Ye Yun quickly raised a hand to interrupt.

"I told you yesterday, you’re a member of my shelter now. Taking care of your injuries is my responsibility."

"Since you’re fully recovered, you’ll be going out on missions with No. 1 and No. 2 from now on."

Hearing that Ye Yun was assigning him such a dangerous task on his very first day, Bena showed no dissatisfaction. Instead, his face was filled with excitement.

For the leader who had given him a new life and granted him safe harbor, he was willing to do anything.

"It is my honor to serve you, Manager, and the shelter!"

His voice was filled with determination and anticipation, and he felt immense pride at being entrusted with a mission.

Ye Yun nodded, satisfied with Bena’s attitude.

"Good. I’m confident you’ll do well. Now, go get something to eat. I’ve already prepared your gear. Afterward, you’ll check your equipment with No. 1 and No. 2 and prepare to set out."

A question suddenly occurred to Bena. After a moment’s hesitation, he boldly asked,

"Forgive me for asking, but what job do you plan to assign to my sister, Lina, Manager?"

"Will she be going out with us?"

Ye Yun waved his hand.

"I have other arrangements for her."

As he spoke, he pointed to the nearby water purification room and food production workshop.

"These two places are where the shelter produces its food and water."

"The facilities are advanced, but they still need someone to operate them to produce food and water."

"I plan to put Lina in charge of logistics and production for the time being."

Hearing that Lina would be staying in the shelter to produce food and water, Bena was even more ecstatic than when he had learned he could receive the anti-radiation treatment yesterday.

Logistics and production was a much, much safer job than hunting and exploring outside. In any settlement, people would fight tooth and nail for a position like this, and only the trusted confidants of the leadership ever got them.

"Manager, is what you’re saying true?"

Ye Yun nodded.

"No. 1 and No. 2 used to take turns doing this job. However, since Lina is a girl, going outside isn’t very suitable for her, so I’ve arranged this role for her instead."

"If she doesn’t like it, I’ll consider finding her a different position when a more suitable one becomes available."

Bena waved his hands frantically.

"Logistics and production is great! No need to change it. She’ll definitely do a great job."

Ye Yun didn’t pay much mind to Bena’s guarantee.

Drawing on their experience from yesterday, the two of them took the food cubes and quickly found a corner to eat in peace.

Yesterday, during his free time, Ye Yun had bought another set of white-grade equipment from the exchange. Since it was just a stopgap, he didn’t bother picking out anything too fancy.

Of course, not being short on cash, he hadn’t skimped either.

[Damaged Thick Bulletproof Vest (White)]

[Defense: 5]

[Provides extra protection against impact and piercing]

[Required Stats: Strength 4 / Agility 4]

[Durability: 100%]

This thing’s required stats were probably too high for bionic humans to use, which was why some manager had just dumped it onto the exchange.

Ye Yun had picked up a bargain, snagging it easily for 120 white-grade components.

While bionic humans couldn’t use it, wasteland refugees could.

As for the weapon, it was, of course, the BB gun he produced himself. That thing was still in a class of its own on the current market.

After eating and drinking his fill, Bena’s face flashed with disbelief when the equipment was presented to him.

He knew what firearms were, of course, but he’d never been qualified to own one.

The bulletproof vest next to it looked slightly damaged, but in the wasteland, "slightly damaged" was practically brand new.

"Manager, this... this is too precious!"

Bena stammered, never having expected Ye Yun to provide him with such high-grade equipment.

Ye Yun smiled and shook his head. "Bena, you’re a member of the shelter now. Protecting you is protecting the shelter."

"Besides, you won’t just be facing mutated creatures. You could run into all sorts of other dangers.

This equipment will increase your chances of survival. Only by staying alive can you bring greater benefits to the shelter, so don’t refuse it."

Bena took a deep breath, suppressing the boundless gratitude in his heart. ’I’ve made up my mind,’ he thought. ’Not just my life, but the lives of my sons and grandsons must be pledged to the Manager. Assuming I ever have any, of course.’

Noticing Bena’s inexperience, Ye Yun didn’t rush him out to explore right away. Instead, he instructed No. 1 to teach Bena how to use the firearm.

Meanwhile, No. 2 was tasked with teaching Lina how to operate the shelter’s production equipment.

The training on both sides proceeded quickly.

Although Bena had never used a firearm before, he wasn’t totally clueless—he’d seen them in action, even if he’d never handled one.

After a period of practice, aided by his high physical stats, his marksmanship improved rapidly.

While his long-range accuracy was still rather pitiful, hitting close-range targets was no longer an issue.

Lina’s progress was just as good.

The technology inside the shelter was highly advanced, but for that very reason, operating much of the equipment was incredibly simple and efficient.

In just half an hour, Lina could already successfully use the purifier to create clean water cubes.

Seeing that Bena’s initial training was complete, Ye Yun issued a new exploration mission.

Since Bena had just joined and would certainly need time to adjust, he chose the safest option: a four-hour exploration.

[Evaluation Type: External Exploration]

[Assessing Mission Risk...]

[Mission: 4-Hour Random Exploration]

[Assessment: White Item Drop Rate 95%, Green Item Drop Rate 3.55%, Blue Item Drop Rate: 0.395%, Purple Item Drop Rate: 0.005%, Risk Factor: 0.00001%]

Ye Yun’s eyes lit up when he saw the assessment results.

Normally, it was almost impossible to obtain a purple-grade item on a short exploration run.

On previous exploration missions, getting a purple-grade item required a runtime of over 24 hours with an extremely high risk factor, and even then, the drop rate was very low.

And yet, this time, a simple four-hour safe exploration actually had a chance of yielding a purple-grade item.

Ye Yun looked thoughtfully at the new variable in this exploration—Bena.

The sudden appearance of a purple item drop was, in all likelihood, because of him.

He immediately canceled the mission and reassigned the exploration team to just No. 1 and No. 2.

Sure enough, the purple item drop rate instantly vanished.

Ye Yun was overjoyed. ’Well, I’ll be,’ he thought. ’Looks like I’ve found myself a real treasure, huh?’

Adding Bena to the team actually increased the drop rate for purple items. In a game, that would probably be considered an extremely rare attribute.
