Chapter 23: Chapter 23: New Members
Just as Ye Yun was pondering the connection, a faint knocking sound came from outside the shelter.
???
’There it is.’ After his experience with the mutated cockroach attack, Ye Yun was instantly on high alert.
He hurried to the observation window. The moment his eyes fell upon it, he froze.
Standing outside the Shelter Entrance were two travel-worn figures. It was impossible to tell if they were men or women, as both were bundled up tightly.
Ye Yun’s brow furrowed as he quickly assessed the situation.
’These must be the people the alien mentioned—the ones drawn over by the huge commotion from the mutated cockroach attack.’
Ye Yun didn’t answer right away. Instead, he deftly opened the chat room.
[A big one and a small one showed up at my door saying they want to join. Should I let them in?]
[Three people came to my door, they look like they’re at least two meters tall. I’m freaking out right now.]
[It should be fine, right? Didn’t the member function just get unlocked? These must be the new members.]
[I think so too. This is probably a way to increase the shelter’s population, right?]
········
Ye Yun didn’t see the answers he was looking for.
The recent wave of attacks had clearly scared the courage out of most people.
After all, nearly 10,000,000 people had died within an hour.
Honestly, forget 10,000,000 people—even 10,000,000 dogs would be an absolutely terrifying thing to witness.
It was normal for everyone to be a little jumpy.
Ye Yun opened the three private chat rooms one by one.
[Is everyone okay?]
[With Brother Ye’s weapon support and Brother Hu’s strategic aid, we managed to pull through!]
[Thanks to you two legends!]
[By the way, did people show up outside everyone else’s shelters too?]
[Two came to mine.]
[Two at my door as well.]
[I checked the public chat room, and it looks like most people got two. Only a few got one or three.]
[So what’s the plan? Do we just let them in?]
[I suggest we don’t rush to let them in. We need more information.]
[If you talk to them through the intercom, it triggers a system notification asking if you want to accept new members.]
[Any brave souls wanna give it a shot?]
···················
Clearly, everyone’s attention was focused on the new feature and the strangers who had appeared outside their shelters.
Lei Hu: [I already let them in. No problem. They’re refugees from the wasteland. The member list has a loyalty stat. Theirs is 80 right off the bat, so it’s safe.]
Ye Yun: ???
All the other admins: ???
The corner of Ye Yun’s mouth twitched.
’Damn, this guy doesn’t just have "tiger" in his name, he acts just as recklessly.’
’First, he let the cockroaches outside the Shelter Entrance in, and now he’s letting strangers in. Isn’t this guy worried at all that something will go wrong?’
’But Ye Yun also knew that people with this much nerve were either truly careless or had absolute confidence in themselves.’
’Judging from how he handled killing the mutated cockroaches, he was probably the latter. Otherwise, he couldn’t have come up with the strategy of using bionic people as bait in such a short time.’
With Lei Hu leading the charge, a flurry of messages quickly filled the private chat room.
[I successfully recruited two new members here, too. Loyalty is also at 80.]
[You can increase their loyalty. I just gave them two pieces of white-grade armor, and their loyalty immediately jumped to 95.]
[It’s not just armor. Giving them food and drinking water also increases loyalty, though not by as much.]
·······
Lurking silently, Ye Yun saw everyone’s updates and was finally able to relax.
He briskly pressed the call button:
"Who are you?"
When sound suddenly boomed from the gate in front of them, Lina and Bena were startled at first, but then their faces lit up with joy.
The slightly taller Bena stepped forward and answered humbly:
"We are wasteland refugees from Dongdi City. My name is Bena, and this is my sister, Lina."
"We’ve been hiding in a nearby underground bunker. We heard a huge commotion from this direction, so we risked coming over to check it out and happened to spot the shelter’s emblem."
"We can’t survive out here anymore. Please, can we join your shelter?"
As Bena finished speaking, a relevant notification immediately popped up in front of Ye Yun.
[New recruitable members have appeared at your shelter]
[Lina]
[Bena]
Ye Yun didn’t hesitate and immediately selected "Accept."
"I am the administrator of this shelter. My name is Ye Yun. My shelter happens to be short on people. If you are willing to follow my orders, I will let you join."
Hearing Ye Yun’s words, the two outside didn’t say another word and replied in unison with a loud voice:
"We are willing! Of course we are willing to follow Lord Ye Yun’s orders."
·····
[You have acquired a new member: Bena]
[You have acquired a new member: Lina]
[You have unlocked new construction options. Please click to view.]
[You have unlocked...]
Ye Yun didn’t rush to open the Shelter Entrance. Instead, he immediately opened the member list.
Originally, there were only three members on the list: Ye Yun, No. 1, and No. 2.
But now, there were two more.
Name: Lina
Strength: 3
Perception: 3
Endurance: 3
Charisma: 7
Intelligence: 4
Agility: 3
Luck: 5
Radiation Level: 12%
Satiation: 29/100
Hydration: 15/100
Loyalty: 80
Name: Bena
Strength: 7
Perception: 5
Endurance: 6
Charisma: 1
Intelligence: 4
Agility: 5
Luck: 4
Radiation Level: 52%
Satiation: 9/100
Hydration: 12/100
Loyalty: 80
Although their stats fluctuated wildly, overall, they were much stronger than No. 1 and No. 2.
Ye Yun wasn’t surprised to see Lina’s 12% radiation level.
After all, they were refugees living in the wasteland. The ambient radiation outside was already high, and on top of that, they would accumulate some radiation from the food and water they consumed.
However, when he saw Bena’s radiation level, he was completely stunned.
’His radiation level is as high as 52%?’
’You have to understand, a radiation level over 10% should cause negative effects on the body.’
’A radiation level as high as 52%... wouldn’t that just kill a person outright?’
But looking at Bena standing perfectly fine in front of him, the answer was clearly no.
After reviewing their information, Ye Yun pressed the switch in his hand.
The Shelter Entrance let out a HISS as the air seal broke, and then the entire door slowly swung inward.
Seeing the Shelter Entrance open, a flash of joy crossed Bena’s bloodshot eyes. He quickly pulled his sister’s hand and carefully walked into the shelter.
Seeing Ye Yun standing beside the control console, Bena didn’t hesitate for a second, dropping to his knees with a THUD.
"Bena, at your service, Lord Administrator!"
Lina, behind him, reacted quickly and knelt as well.
"Lina, also at your service, Lord Administrator!"
