Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Information Gathering [2/2]

Ye Yun frowned, examining the two bracers in his hands.

These Simple Communication Bracers were less than useless.

’Even something mediocre has its uses, but with the System’s built-in chat room, this thing is completely pointless.’

He pressed the switch with a hint of disdain.

The bracer’s screen lit up, and a simple input panel popped out from its side.

Ye Yun’s lip twitched as he looked at the nine-key metal input pad.

’Seriously? A physical keypad?’

Ye Yun fiddled with it for a moment, about to toss the piece of junk into a corner to get it out of his sight.

But then, a dissonant thought surfaced in his mind.

’If the System already has a chat room, why would it also provide a separate communicator?’

’And if there’s a [Simple Communication Bracer (White)] for short-range communication, does that mean there are more advanced ones for longer ranges?’

’What if this thing wasn’t meant for communication between managers of different shelters, but for...’

Ye Yun’s gaze shifted to No. 1 and No. 2, who were organizing the storeroom.

「10 minutes later.」

Ye Yun stared at the bracer in front of him, his eyes shining.

’What a great item. A truly great item.’

He had just tested it—No. 1 and No. 2 could use the communication bracers normally.

This meant that after leaving the shelter, No. 1 and No. 2 would no longer be out of contact.

Previously, once No. 1 and No. 2 left the shelter, he couldn’t track their status or issue them any commands.

But with the communication bracers, the exploring No. 1 and No. 2 could now compose messages during their breaks to report their progress to him.

From within the shelter, he could remotely direct their actions via the bracers. If they encountered any particular danger, he could immediately order them to return to the shelter for safety.

Ye Yun instantly retracted his earlier assessment of the communication bracers.

’A Divine Artifact! An absolute Divine Artifact!’

Ye Yun immediately assigned an exploration mission to No. 1 and No. 2.

[You have issued a new mission.]

[Assessment Type: External Exploration]

[Assessing mission risk...]

[This is an 8-hour random exploration.]

[Assessment: White-grade item acquisition probability 84%; Green-grade item probability 14.61%; Blue-grade item probability 1.39%; Risk Level: 0.002%]

After watching the two of them leave the shelter, Ye Yun also activated the communication bracer in his hand.

「10 minutes later.」

The communication bracer vibrated gently.

No. 1: Exploration time 10 minutes. Explored an abandoned shop. No gains.

Ye Yun nodded in satisfaction as he read the message on the bracer.

’Good. The communicators work outside the shelter. Now I just need to test their maximum range.’

No. 1: Exploration time 1 hour. Acquired item from a trash can.

No. 1: Exploration time 2 hours. Acquired item from an abandoned car.

...

No. 1: Exploration time 4 hours. Attacked by small mutated cockroaches. Successfully repelled them with No. 2.

...

No. 1: Exploration time 5 hours. Attacked by small mutated cockroaches. Successfully repelled them. Acquired item.

...

No. 1: Exploration time 6 hours. Attacked by multiple small mutated cockroaches. Successfully repelled them with No. 2.

No. 1: Now returning to the shelter.

As he watched the constant stream of messages from No. 1, Ye Yun’s expression grew serious.

At first, he had been basking in the joy of continuously acquiring items.

However, he soon noticed something was wrong.

After the fourth hour of their exploration, No. 1 and No. 2 began to encounter mutated cockroaches constantly.

Furthermore, the frequency of these attacks increased the longer they explored.

If not for the System assessment showing the exploration’s risk level was only 0.002%, and if the incoming reports hadn’t been consistently positive, Ye Yun would have already ordered them to hurry back to the shelter.

Nevertheless, he managed to analyze several key details from No. 1’s reports and the previously fluctuating risk level from the System.

1. The area closer to the shelter is relatively safe, most likely because there are no mutated cockroaches present.

2. There must be a mutated cockroach nest somewhere near the shelter.

3. The mutated cockroaches in the nest likely have a hunting habit, venturing out to roam near their nest. The closer one gets to the nest, the more cockroaches one will encounter.

4. These mutated cockroaches are somewhat aggressive, but their aggression doesn’t seem high for now. As long as they don’t encounter special variants or an overwhelming number, No. 1 and No. 2 are safe.

5. Killing mutated cockroaches can yield items.

6. Judging by the steadily increasing risk level, the number of these mutated cockroaches may be constantly growing.

Ye Yun’s fingers tapped lightly on the table, his face etched with contemplation.

The tapping of his fingers quickened, and his eyes grew brighter.

He had a faint feeling that he was on the verge of grasping some critical information.

But the information felt chaotic and jumbled, preventing him from immediately pinpointing the main idea.

Ye Yun took a deep breath, forcing down his rising impatience.

He knew what he needed most right now was to remain calm.

Now that he had the Simple Communication Bracers, he was definitely gathering more information than the vast majority of other managers.

At this thought, Ye Yun’s eyes lit up.

’The amount of information one person can gather is limited, after all. But what if more people helped collect more information?’

’Wouldn’t that improve the situation?’

’After all, as the old saying goes, a change in quantity leads to a change in quality.’

Ye Yun was a decisive person by nature; once he thought of a solution, he acted on it immediately.

He immediately opened the Exchange and began buying the white-grade components needed to craft the [Simple Communication Bracer (White)].

He then issued a new order to his construction robots: produce [Simple Communication Bracer (White)] at full capacity.

To Ye Yun’s relief, the production time for a [Simple Communication Bracer (White)] was very short—only five minutes per unit.

With two robots working simultaneously, they could produce 24 [Simple Communication Bracer (White)] in just one hour.

「Four hours later.」

Ye Yun opened the public announcement chat room.

[I have some good news for everyone. A few hours ago, I obtained the blueprint for a communication tool that allows our androids to communicate outside the shelter: the [Simple Communication Bracer (White)]. I’ve already had my construction robots produce a batch.]

[In a moment, I’ll be listing this entire batch of communication tools on the Exchange.]

[After you buy one, you can have your android wear it and report back at regular intervals. With the feedback from the communicator, you’ll know what your androids are experiencing outside, and you can order them to retreat immediately if they run into danger.]

[Additionally, I need everyone who buys a bracer to share as much information about the outside world as you can.]

[After all, since we can’t go out ourselves, we’re still completely in the dark about the outside world. This situation is extremely disadvantageous for our future development and for dealing with upcoming disasters.]
