Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)

After some consideration, Ye Yun offered a fair price.

Ye Yun:

[Right now on the Exchange, a normal Green-tier component can basically be traded for 93 White-tier components.]

[Yours is a special Green-tier component, after all. I won’t lowball you. How about 150 White-tier components for each? If you can accept that, we’ll trade. If not, then there’s nothing more to be done.]

On the other side, Zhang Heng only hesitated for a moment after seeing Ye Yun’s offer before gritting his teeth and agreeing.

He had originally planned on hoarding the item, hoping its price would skyrocket. In his view, the Green-tier component he had was a relatively rare type.

His plan had been to wait until everyone needed it, at which point the price of his [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)] would surely be higher than it was now.

But as the number of Green-tier components on the Exchange increased over the past few days, he began to waver.

Although none of them were the [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)] that he possessed.

But the price of Green-tier components was dropping too fast. He was getting nervous, afraid he’d be left holding a worthless item, which was why he had suddenly contacted Ye Yun to try and sell the components he had.

Zhang Heng:

[Okay. 300 [Damaged Battery Coils (White)], then.]

Ye Yun had expected him to haggle a bit and was surprised he agreed so readily.

Worried the other party might back out, Ye Yun immediately sent the trade request.

A moment later, the two completed the trade, both satisfied.

Ye Yun went to his warehouse to look at his new acquisitions.

[Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)]

[Description: A construction robot that is unusable due to an excessive degree of damage. It might be possible to repair it using the relevant blueprints and components.]

[Repair using components without a blueprint?]

Ye Yun admitted to himself that he was taking a gamble, but when he saw the system’s final prompt, he knew his gamble had paid off.

Any other administrator faced with this option would never attempt a repair without having the corresponding blueprint.

But for him, this wasn’t a problem at all.

Ye Yun casually picked up a White-tier component.

[Appraisal Type: Item Repair]

[Assessing repair risk...]

[Item to be repaired: [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)]]

[Appraisal: 100% chance of obtaining a Green-tier item. Risk Factor: 99.9%]

Ye Yun: ...

Staring at the sky-high 99.9% risk factor, Ye Yun had to admit he had celebrated a bit too soon.

Fortunately, he had many different types of White-tier components in his warehouse.

Ye Yun skillfully began to test them.

[Appraisal Type: Item Repair]

[Assessing repair risk...]

[Item to be repaired: [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)]]

[Appraisal: 100% chance of obtaining a Green-tier item. Risk Factor: 94.1%]

...

[Appraisal Type: Item Repair]

...

[Appraisal: 100% chance of obtaining a Green-tier item. Risk Factor: 37.5%]

...

[Appraisal Type: Item Repair]

...

[Appraisal: 100% chance of obtaining a Green-tier item. Risk Factor: 5.8%]

After more than three hundred attempts, the risk factor finally settled at 5.8%.

Faced with this situation, Ye Yun was already mentally prepared.

The situation with the [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)] was most likely the same as with the [Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)].

To repair it perfectly, he would have to find the corresponding Green-tier components.

However, there was a subtle difference between the two.

The [Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)] itself required four Green-tier components and over ten different types of White-tier components to craft, meaning a failure would be a huge loss.

The [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)], on the other hand, required dozens of components to repair, but they were all White-tier. Even if the repair failed, the loss would only be some White-tier components and one damaged robot.

Ye Yun looked at the 5.8% risk factor again.

Out of 100 attempts, it would fail about 6 times.

If he only had one [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)], he might have hesitated.

But he now had two of them. The probability of a single failure was 5.8%, which meant the probability of failing twice in a row dropped to 0.3364%.

If he failed even with such low odds, Ye Yun could only accept his loss.

After all, compared to the loss from a failure, the rewards from obtaining a new construction robot were unparalleled.

With a second construction robot, his income from the Exchange would double.

Having made his decision, Ye Yun no longer hesitated and pressed the confirmation button to repair.

One by one, the White-tier components in the warehouse vanished. The construction robot, which had looked like a piece of scrap metal, began to be repaired bit by bit as blackened parts were continuously replaced.

Ye Yun stood by, nervously wringing his hands and muttering a prayer under his breath:

"Please let this work, please let this work."

However, his prayers clearly had no effect.

[Repair Failed]

Seeing the two words that appeared on the panel, Ye Yun fell silent.

’Good grief, the failure rate was only 5.8%, and I still managed to hit it???’

’Is my luck really this bad???’

He took a deep breath to suppress his frustration, then looked at the remaining [Severely Damaged Construction Robot (Green)] in his warehouse.

After the failed repair, the first damaged robot had been scrapped and disappeared along with all the White-tier components used in the attempt.

He was overcome with indecision.

’Repair?’

’Or give up?’

’Should I trust my luck or the odds?’

According to the probability he just calculated, the chance of failing twice in a row was only 0.3364%. This meant that out of 1,000 repair attempts, there would be fewer than four failures.

After only a moment’s hesitation, Ye Yun gritted his teeth and pressed confirm.

’If I give up now, the first failed attempt will have been for nothing.’

’No, the first attempt wasn’t a failure. It was just a sacrifice to pave the way, purely to increase the success rate of the second try.’

The repair process began anew. Once again, White-tier components began merging into the damaged robot’s frame.

As the seconds and minutes ticked by, Ye Yun couldn’t help but grow more tense.

Just as he was thinking about finding something to distract himself,

a pleasant system notification chimed at that very moment.

[Repair Successful]

[You have obtained [Construction Robot (Green)]]

!!!!

Ye Yun whipped his head around. The once grimy, damaged robot was now completely refurbished, its surface gleaming with an alluring metallic luster.

[Construction Robot (Green)]

[A robot that can be used for construction and production within the shelter.]

[Durability: 100%] [Repairable]
