Chapter 161: Chapter 116: Hunted Again (Part 2)
"Nonsense! All this meat belongs to the Tribe. How could half be for the Tribe and half be yours? Don’t you dare touch that food," the Clan Leader berated, his face darkening.
The young Cat Girl, Mengmeng, glanced at the surrounding tribe members, then back at the Clan Leader. Planting her hands on her hips, she declared, "You sent us to trade for information about the surrounding tribes. That was only worth half the meat. I earned the rest with my own information!"
"Shoo, shoo! Get out of here, kid. What information could you possibly have? Meng Ni, is this how you raise your little sister?"
"That’s right, she’s so unruly."
"Meng Ni, you didn’t put her up to this, did you?"
"You tell us. Is what she said true?"
In the eyes of the tribe, Mengmeng was, after all, just a child. Their gazes, full of suspicion, all shifted to Meng Ni—and the Clan Leader’s was no different.
"What Mengmeng said is true," Meng Ni clarified, seeing that the tribe wouldn’t believe her sister. "She earned half of this meat with her own information."
"Tsk, tsk. Meng Ni, I always thought you were a good kid. How could you lie like that?"
"Exactly. You and Mengmeng were the ones who got the meat, so of course you can say whatever you want about what happened."
"We all let you go because we trusted you. Don’t be so ungrateful."
The tribe’s words threw Meng Ni into a panic. As Mengmeng continued to argue her case, the Clan Leader shot a look to the side. Instantly, two Catmen stepped forward, pulled Mengmeng away, and dragged her aside, pinning her down so she couldn’t move.
"Alright, let’s distribute the food."
Ignoring Mengmeng’s frantic shouting, the Clan Leader began to distribute the food. It was a huge pile, and since the Dora the Cat Tribe didn’t have many members, everyone stood to get a good amount. However, the Clan Leader was furious about Mengmeng’s behavior. In the end, the Catwoman Sisters received the smallest share of all—only about two or three pounds.
The other Catmen took their shares of meat, their faces beaming with joy as they dispersed. Only Mengmeng remained, so angry that tears streamed down her face. Meng Ni stood frozen in place, utterly stunned. She never imagined this would be the outcome.
’Putting aside the matter of Mengmeng’s personal share, we risked our lives to go to the forbidden Undead Territory to trade for food. How could we only get two or three pounds of meat for that?’
"Clan Leader, please give us some more meat," Meng Ni pleaded, quickly running up to him as he was about to leave.
"Sigh... Based on your contributions, you should have received a large share. But Mengmeng’s actions challenged the Tribe’s rules. This is a lesson you both must learn. And by the way, go back and teach your little sister properly. Don’t let something like this happen again." The Clan Leader shot Meng Ni a cold glare, then picked up his own portion—the largest of all—and ambled back to his burrow.
He might pity the sisters, but that was no excuse for them to challenge his authority.
Everyone else was overjoyed, but a chill had settled deep in the Catwoman Sisters’ hearts.
The first time, Mengmeng brought back meat from the Undead, forcing the entire Tribe to flee, and the Clan Leader had divided up the meat.
The second time, Mengmeng went to the Undead again. Worried, Meng Ni had pleaded with the Clan Leader for help, but he refused. She had to charge into the Undead Territory all by herself to bring her sister back.
This was the third time. She had watched with her own eyes as her sister swore on their Ancestor just to get more meat. And the result? They were left with this tiny scrap.
Meng Ni was lost. She didn’t understand why things had turned out this way.
Tears streaming down her face, Mengmeng came to her sister’s side and gently tugged her arm. "Big sis," she choked out through sobs, "they’re bullies! Even the Undead are better than them! The Undead give us food... Waaaah..."
Her fists slowly clenched, then slowly relaxed. Meng Ni knelt and wiped away her sister’s tears. "Don’t cry, Mengmeng. Come on, let’s go home. I’ll cook some meat for you."
...
On the horizon, a half-set sun painted the sky crimson. Upon the earth, beneath that setting sun, was the fleeting image of bygone youth... Whoops, wrong script. Take two. It was the Treasure-Hunting Catman Mobile Fortress, kicking up a colossal cloud of dust as it fled for its life at top Speed.
"Aaaah! What the hell! Why am I the one being chased again?!" Peering through the window at the relentlessly pursuing Mobile Fortress, Liu Xingxing couldn’t help but roar at the heavens.
That’s right. Zhang Peng’s jinx had unfortunately come true. Just as his treasure hunt was ending, Liu Xingxing had the bad luck of running into another Transmigrator. The result? He was now fleeing under the setting sun like a dog with its tail between its legs, just as he had been when Yu Gangbo’s Goblin Fortress was on his tail.
Back then, with two Treasure-Hunting Catmen, he was chased by goblins riding dogs. Now, with two hundred Treasure-Hunting Catmen, he was being chased by dog-like Monsters. Hmm. You couldn’t say it was exactly the same, but it was a perfect reenactment.
’Why am I always the one who suffers?!’
Tears streamed down Liu Xingxing’s face, his heart overflowing with sorrow.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The wooden planks around the window frame exploded, sending splinters flying. A terrified Liu Xingxing instantly ducked, crouching below the windowsill.
’Holy shit! Isn’t this supposed to be a Magic World?! I could understand it if you were attacking me with Magic Balls, but why the hell are there things like Firearms? That’s not very magical at all!’
’And even if there are Firearms, shouldn’t they be used by the Dwarf Race? Those guys back there are some kind of Kobold-like Race, so why are they using Firearms to attack?’
’Director, you’ve got the wrong script!’
The pursuing Mobile Fortress looked like a massive armored war chariot, except its metal plates had been replaced with thick wooden planks layered with Beast Hides.
Several of the wooden planks were now raised, revealing platforms crowded with Kobold-like creatures. They operated in pairs, heaving long-barreled Firearms over three meters in length. The front creature would half-crouch, shouldering the weapon to provide stability and help with loading, while the one behind handled aiming and firing.
