Chapter 714: Chapter 70: City Lord
The City Lord’s voice came once more from the silver-white iron sphere.
"Does seeing it mean it’s real? As far as I know, every world is unique, and it’s impossible for there to be two similar worlds, not even slightly."
His tone was extremely confident, leaving no room for doubt.
These Players with long lifespans should also be studying these things, so there can be no oversight; what’s real is real, what’s not is not.
"Moreover, there’s something you need to know, some worlds truly exist, while others, along with their inhabitants, are fictional creations from the Doomsday Game."
"A false world is constructed from the imaginations of creatures from the True World, yet it’s a complete world with its own operating laws, making it hard to discern its authenticity."
Su Changxing, after hearing Thundercloud City’s City Lord’s words, had some understanding in his heart, "The City Lord means that the place I went to is a false world, because it was made of imagination, that’s why I encountered an existence similar to mine."
The City Lord’s tone carried a hint of approval: "Yes, that’s more or less the case."
Su Changxing also felt that many things in the Zombie World seemed illogical, but thinking about where the illogic lay was challenging.
Everything made sense, yet everything defied logic, perhaps that’s just how it was. Still, deep down, he was unwilling to believe that world was fictional.
At this point, the main topic had not yet been discussed.
Su Changxing displayed a respectful smile on his face, "There must be another matter for which the City Lord has summoned me."
The silver-white iron sphere rotated steadily in the air, seemingly maintaining a fixed frequency.
"I can no longer manage Thundercloud City, so I need to pass this position on to you."
Upon hearing this, Su Changxing showed a surprised expression and said, "This might not be appropriate. I’m just new here, and it’s the first time I’ve met the City Lord."
His first reaction was to suspect a trick. Why would the City Lord of Thundercloud City hand over his position for no reason? This indeed seemed strange.
"Don’t be quick to refuse. Though I don’t need this position, you do. If you wish to advance to Tier Four, the position of City Lord will be very important to you."
The City Lord’s tone carried a hint of amusement, seemingly certain that Su Changxing would accept the position.
Su Changxing closed his eyes, pondered for a moment, then said, "Why choose me as this City Lord? It seems like anyone could do it."
The City Lord continued, "That’s not the case. Becoming City Lord has no other requirements, just one, and that is to be able to fight."
"As long as you can fight, you will be welcomed. As long as you can fight, you can secure your position. It’s as simple as that."
"And considering you come from a low-level world with no complex background, you are currently the best candidate."
"You obtained the title of Slaughter Lord at Tier Seven. When you reach Tier Five, no one below Tier Four will be your match!"
Su Changxing roughly understood this so-called City Lord’s role; it was not about traditionally managing the city, but more like being a leader in combat.
He took a deep breath, appearing very cautious as he said, "Can I refuse?"
The City Lord yawned and slowly said, "And what do you think?"
Even with just a voice, Su Changxing could feel the pressure, as if he were speaking with a God.
This individual’s strength likely reached an unimaginable level!
Su Changxing didn’t hesitate much, believing that if he refused, he might have difficulty leaving this room, "Alright, I’ll be the City Lord!"
"Smart choice, kid, haha."
As soon as these words were spoken,
a white light appeared, and a silver-white patterned bracelet appeared on Su Changxing’s hand, engraved with the characters "Thundercloud."
"Thundercloud City is left to you, kid. Even if you do nothing, don’t mess around, or I will definitely trouble you."
...
The rotation speed of the silver-white iron sphere slowed down, eventually stopping, suspended in mid-air.
Su Changxing exhaled, and through this silver bracelet, his consciousness instantaneously covered the entire City Lord’s Mansion.
"Interesting, forcing a City Lord position on me—is this an attempt to win me over?"
He glanced at the bracelet on his hand, not showing much change in expression, as he was about to leave here soon anyway; an additional title did not really matter.
Then,
as he stepped out, he found Han Yiming waiting outside, who immediately noticed the bracelet in his hand, his face full of humility: "I am ready to follow the Lord City Lord’s commands."
Obviously, he knew Su Changxing was now the City Lord and had anticipated why Thundercloud City’s Old City Lord had sought Su Changxing.
Su Changxing glanced at him and calmly said, "I’ll rest here tonight and leave tomorrow."
Han Yiming nodded, "No problem, I’ll take you there."
At the same time,
Su Changxing checked the time; there was no waiting until tomorrow. In four to five hours, he would be forcibly sent back to that original world.
They seemed to be in a special area with no complete passageway, so he lingered in that world. Besides him, few Players had arrived in the High-dimensional World.
The entire City Lord’s Mansion appeared very spacious, aside from the robots, there were only a few servants, and these people could be considered Players.
But they were the descendants of previous Players, born and raised in Thundercloud City, without strength, surviving only by relying on the City Lord’s Mansion.
Steam swirling with dim yellow lighting, Su Changxing lay naked in a large bath, his cheeks reddened, his body fully relaxed.
"Master, do you need some refreshments prepared?" a sweet yet slightly cold voice came from outside the door.
She was a servant of the City Lord’s Mansion, Luozhu.
"No need."
Su Changxing stood, got dressed, stepped out, and upon seeing Luozhu with long blue hair wearing a maid’s outfit, he said, "Did you all always stay at the City Lord’s Mansion? Even when the City Lord’s not around?"
Luozhu’s face showed no expression, carrying a tray of drinks, taking small steps behind Su Changxing.
Her two eyes were completely different; one was a normal brown human eye, while the other was pure blue, looking exceedingly incongruent.
"Yes, we’ve always stayed here, waiting for the City Lord’s return."
Su Changxing picked up a wine glass, downing the dark red liquid in one go, dry and slightly bitter, but with a heavy aftertaste, "What’s with your eye?"
"It’s a mechanical eye for imitation. I went blind, so I had to install this." she calmly said.
Su Changxing could tell her strength was not weak, at least Tier Six, yet such a person was only serving as a maid at the City Lord’s Mansion.
They were essentially Players, but not true Players—needing no task execution, but also enjoying none of the Player’s privileges.
They weren’t protected and could die in this dimension, much like in the Normal World.
So, even with substantial strength, their status in this world remained low.
Because there would be no attacks in the main city, their strengths were generally not strong, hence most would only operate within the main city.
If put into words, Su Changxing felt they were more like NPCs, an existence lower than Players.
This lower-than-Players status was even more terrible than systematic inferiority, as if the entire world’s rule was like this.
