Chapter 520: Chapter 105: Gravely Wounded in an Assassination, Star Road Pierced Through
The Salvation Army had to be incredibly powerful to unify all the cities of the Western Old Kingdom in such a short time.
It boasted over a thousand members at Tier Three, considered the pinnacle of power in this world.
At the Salvation Army’s headquarters in the City Lord’s Mansion of Nils City, there were at least twenty to thirty such experts serving in the Imperial Guard.
As for the others, they were either stationed in various cities or sent to the front lines.
But even so, with dozens of Tier Three Transcendents on hand, it should have been more than enough to ensure the safety of General Ed.
After all, he himself was a powerhouse at Tier Three Peak.
And yet, the seemingly impossible had occurred.
Not only had Ed been the target of an assassination, but the attempt had almost succeeded.
"How is this possible?"
At this moment, as everyone looked at Ed lying on the bed—clearly in great pain from his severe injuries—their eyes filled with solemnity, confusion, and even rage.
Ed had fallen. Was this a major blow to the Salvation Army?
Without a doubt. After all, he was the founder of the Salvation Army.

In reality, however, it was merely a psychological blow.
In truth, all the power within the Salvation Army had long been in the hands of the core members from the Monastery.
This was a bond that even the camaraderie of a similar Military Academy could not compare to.
After all, what kind of people were those from the Monastery?
They were all orphans, people raised by Priest Saar since childhood.
They naturally had a relationship with Ed akin to that of brothers and sisters.
Therefore, even if some had more complicated thoughts, nearly all the Transcendents from the Monastery privately considered Ed their ’Big Brother’.
So, far from causing the Salvation Army to splinter or fall into decline, Ed’s incident would only ignite their furious desire for revenge.
Even if Ed died, these people would undoubtedly rally around his eldest son.
As for Ed’s sons, all of them, without exception, were currently at the Monastery, receiving training from Saar and studying Extraordinary knowledge.
So, the fact that Ed was only severely injured meant the situation wasn’t yet critical.
"It must have been the Royal Capital’s Divine Guard Army!"
"Those damned bastards! They can’t beat us on the battlefield, so they resort to these kinds of tactics. It’s utterly despicable!"
"What’s the point of saying that now? We’re already in a fight to the death. We should have expected them to use any means necessary."
"But the one thing I don’t get is, given the defenses at our City Lord’s Mansion and Big Brother’s own strength, how could he have possibly ended up in this state?"
The six people surrounding the bed, including two Players, argued furiously as they looked at Ed’s pale face.
Ed looked terrible, but he forced himself to speak:
"It was Divine Medicine!"
"The three Death Warriors who infiltrated had all taken Divine Medicine!"
Divine Medicine?
Upon hearing this, everyone present was stunned.

The so-called Divine Medicine wasn’t actually a secret.
This medicine was a gift from the Titan Race.
No, to be precise, it was bestowed by the Inspectors that the Titan Race had stationed in the Royal Capitals of the mortal world’s various Old Kingdoms.
The so-called Inspectors were mainly responsible for monitoring the mortal world for any abnormalities.
Ed and the others didn’t understand what was meant by ’abnormalities’.
’But they roughly understood it might refer to people who could somehow bypass the rules to break through to Tier Four or above.’
’Who knew?’
In any case, these Inspectors mostly just stayed within the borders of the Old Kingdoms they were assigned to guard.
They hardly ever got involved in the struggles of mortals.
However, aside from monitoring for these so-called abnormalities, they also handled battlefield cleanup.
In the name of the Divine Race, and for the safety of the mortal world, the bodies from any large-scale death of humans had to be gathered for disposal, regardless of faction.
Ostensibly, this was to prevent plagues.
These collected bodies had to be sacrificed, following specific requirements and a certain ritual, to a death monarch serving the Titan Divine Race.
The death monarch, at the behest of the Divine Race, would use its immense Divine Power to process the bodies and guide the souls of the dead toward a chance to enter the Divine Kingdom.
In short, the sacrificed bodies would invariably be covered in a black, oil-like liquid and quickly disappear without a trace.
The bodies were disposed of, the mortal souls ascended to the Divine Kingdom—a happy ending for all, or so it was said.
This, in turn, created an opportunity.
After each sacrifice, followers of the death monarch, sent by the Inspectors to factions of all sizes, would grant that faction a certain amount of ’Divine Medicine’ based on the scale of the sacrifice.
But was the Divine Medicine truly divine?
No. In essence, Divine Medicine was no different from poison.
It just so happened that before the poison took effect, it granted the user the temporary Ability to break through to the next Tier.
The poison took about an hour to activate, which was why it was called ’Divine Medicine’.

An entire Tier.
From Tier Three to Tier Four.
That’s the dividing line between Low Tier and Middle Tier.
On the battlefield, a Middle-Tier being, going all out for an hour, could change the course of many things.
In short, it came down to the same old story.
In the mortal world’s endless struggle for power, the rules never changed.
To please the so-called Titan Divine Race, this Divine Medicine served as a form of twisted encouragement.
It encouraged these factions to be ruthless.
Not only to their own people, but even more so to their enemies.
As long as a faction had enough people taking the Divine Medicine, and as long as they killed enough enemies...
...then they would receive even more Divine Medicine the next time, gaining a powerful tool to vie for control over more territory.
Of course, the Salvation Army also had a large stockpile of this Divine Medicine.
