Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Vengeance, Even More Magical

Ren Yuanyang didn’t pull the Round Duckweed apart right away. He waited for his ex-girlfriend’s family to take a couple of steps forward, moving away from the small boat. Then, he quickly pulled Lu Jiamei back into the container while simultaneously commanding the bitter grass to pull the Round Duckweed apart.

The ex-girlfriend’s family had been staring fixedly at Ren Yuanyang and Lu Jiamei. They were just about to put down their packages and launch a surprise attack.

But suddenly, the Round Duckweed beneath their feet shifted rapidly to one side. They lost their balance and tumbled toward the water!

Just then, as he fell, the ex-father-in-law gave a powerful kick off the Duckweed and swam toward the container.

’As long as I get close to them,’ he thought, ’I’m confident I can hold on for a bit. Once my wife and daughter get out, those two are as good as dead!’

Just as his hand was about to grab the edge of the container, something suddenly wrapped around his leg and pulled him back.

"What the hell is this stuff!" the ex-father-in-law cursed, trying to break free.

The other two were also tangled in the runners of the bitter grass, struggling desperately in the water.

"Don’t waste your energy!" Ren Yuanyang said, looking down at them from the edge of the container.

An ordinary person had no chance of breaking free from the bitter grass, its entanglement ability having been enhanced three times.

The ex-mother-in-law managed to steady herself. "Yuanyang, please, help us! We’re tangled up in some kind of water weed!"

Ren Yuanyang sneered. "Save you? The moment you pushed me into the water, I swore I’d make you fall in, too. I wanted you to feel that same despair!"

"Yangyang, stop joking around. Hurry up and pull us out!" his ex-girlfriend pleaded, trying to look as pitiful as possible.

Ren Yuanyang snorted. "How did you know no rescue was coming?" he asked again. "And what did you mean about your phones becoming so advanced?"

If he didn’t need to interrogate them about these two things, Ren Yuanyang would have dragged them underwater immediately.

"Pull us up, and we’ll tell you!"

Hearing the hint of a threat in her voice, Ren Yuanyang acted on a thought. The three of them were instantly dragged underwater.

GLUB GLUB GLUB...

Twenty seconds later, Ren Yuanyang let them surface again. Their faces were masks of terror as they gasped desperately for air.

It finally dawned on the ex-girlfriend’s family: Ren Yuanyang could actually control this evolved Duckweed and the bitter grass that had them trapped!

"Same question. Are you going to talk or not?" Ren Yuanyang asked again.

His ex-girlfriend, terrified by what had just happened, immediately shouted, "I’ll talk!"

"Don’t—" Her parents tried to stop her, but Ren Yuanyang simply dragged them back underwater.

Seeing this, his ex-girlfriend hurriedly explained, "Our phones got wet in the rain and shut down. When we turned them back on, they had been completely reset and came with a new app. You can use it to communicate with other people!"

Ren Yuanyang and Lu Jiamei were completely stunned by her words.

"Where are your phones?" Ren Yuanyang asked grimly.

"They’re on the boat!" Terrified, his ex-girlfriend spilled everything.

Ren Yuanyang immediately had the enhanced Round Duckweed form a path, motioning for Lu Jiamei to go and get them.

Lu Jiamei nodded and immediately walked over to the small boat. She found their phones, then grabbed the boat’s mooring line and pulled it over to the side of the container.

After getting the phones and inputting the passwords, Ren Yuanyang and Lu Jiamei finally saw the app.

"Have you ever seen this app?" Ren Yuanyang asked, frowning.

Lu Jiamei shook her head firmly. "Never even heard of it."

Ren Yuanyang tried to open the app, but a message popped up: "Operation by non-owner is prohibited."

"This advanced? It can tell I’m not the owner?" Ren Yuanyang was surprised.

Just then, his ex-girlfriend, still in the water, begged, "I’ve told you everything! Please, save me! I’m running out of strength!"

"Thank you for the information. As a token of my gratitude, I won’t eat you," Ren Yuanyang said with a slight smile.

"No—" Before his ex-girlfriend could even finish begging for her life, she was dragged underwater.

Her parents had been underwater the whole time. They were likely already gone.

Lu Jiamei fully approved of Ren Yuanyang’s actions. She felt not a single shred of sympathy for this family who treated human life so callously and had even discussed cannibalism.

"Boss, what’s the deal with this app?" Lu Jiamei asked, looking curiously at the icon on the phone’s screen.

"It’s my first time seeing it, too. How would I know?" Ren Yuanyang replied. Having dealt with his ex-girlfriend’s family, he felt the resentment in his heart finally dissipate.

Lu Jiamei was taken aback. "And here I thought you knew everything! Now that you’ve gotten rid of them, we can’t open the app. How are we supposed to get information from the outside world? Are we really going to have to use the satellite phone I brought?"

Ren Yuanyang shook his head. "It’s not like yours is the only one we have."

As he spoke, Ren Yuanyang went into the container and took out a phone he had recovered from the water.

"You have a phone?" Lu Jiamei asked, surprised.

Ren Yuanyang rolled his eyes at her. "This isn’t my phone. The bitter grass caught it."

Lu Jiamei was even more astonished. "Shouldn’t a phone sink if it falls in the water? How did you retrieve it? Can our bitter grass’s runners reach all the way to the bottom?"

"You’re overthinking it." Ren Yuanyang shook his head. "Our bitter grass’s runners are forty meters long at most; they can’t reach the bottom. If they could, we’d be able to capture a lot more supplies. As for how I managed to fish out a phone... I’m confused about that, too. But is there anything about this world that isn’t confusing anymore?"

Lu Jiamei paused for a moment, then nodded.

"That’s exactly why I haven’t dared to turn it on yet," Ren Yuanyang continued. "I’m still hesitant."

Even though his ex-girlfriend had just told him that her phone only got the app after getting wet and rebooting, this phone in his hand had been completely submerged. If it short-circuited when he turned it on, that would be a huge waste.

Lu Jiamei frowned slightly, then suddenly said, "Your ex-girlfriend’s boat should have some supplies. Let’s see if we can find anything to start a fire!"

Ren Yuanyang slapped his forehead. "How could I have forgotten about that? There’s bound to be something! Go bring the supplies from the boat inside!"

Clearly, he had been so shocked by the news from his ex-girlfriend that he hadn’t thought of it.

"On it!" Lu Jiamei replied excitedly.

You had to admit, the ex-mother-in-law had been extremely thorough in her preparations. No wonder they had spent so long moving their things when Ren Yuanyang rowed over to save them. It was only after he urged them repeatedly that they’d reluctantly boarded the boat and left.

She had packed all the basic necessities of life.

"What’s the point of bringing a rice cooker?" Lu Jiamei grumbled as she sorted through the supplies. "And a hair dryer!"

Ren Yuanyang hauled a heavy black box out from the pile of supplies, set it down in front of Lu Jiamei, and patted it. "With this, at least the hair dryer is useful."

The black box turned out to be a large storage battery.

Lu Jiamei stared. "Wow, they really thought of everything."

"If I hadn’t found this boat and gone to rescue them, all their thorough preparations would have been for nothing," Ren Yuanyang retorted. He then plugged the hair dryer into the battery, getting ready to dry the phone he had recovered.
