Chapter 304: Remaining Defense

Kai’s boots hit the ground with a heavy thud as he caught Althea...

His full black gear was still equipped, and it was already turning red since it was absorbing the glow of the crimson sky.

After confirming that Althea was fine, he didn’t rush in blindly... his eyes swept across the battlefield, as he calculated the situation.

He saw the number of survivors, their injuries, and the damage done to the shelter...

Every detail was immediately calculated...

He saw the defenders’ dwindling ammunition, the shattered barricades, the broken artillery coughing smoke.

He noted the casualties... too many guards were cut down, blood staining the dirt. He assessed the enemy... five B‑Rank Sentinels still moving.

He frowned.

They’re strong... but not invincible.’

Spirit Dominion surged within him.

This skill was a fusion of Spirit Pulse, Piercing Roar, and the last chains.

[ Spirit Dominion Lv2: Combines ranged burst, immobilization, and disruption into a single Spirit‑based attack. Releases a concussive wave of Spirit energy up to 15 meters, smashing chains that bind up to 2 targets for 3 seconds, while a piercing resonance destabilizes systems and reduces accuracy by 20% for 5 seconds.

Spirit Point Cost: 60

Cooldown: 18 seconds

Range: 15 meters ]

Energy gathered at his core, his aura flaring.

He raised his hand, unleashing a concussive wave of Spirit that slammed into the nearest Sentinel!

Boom!

The machine seemed to malfunction as its systems were disrupted by the chains of energy lashing around its limbs to hold it in place.

"Focus fire on that one!" Kai ordered the remaining Survivors, itching to kill these invaders.

His voice carried authority, cutting through the chaos.

The defenders obeyed, and rifles and grenades immediately started hammering the immobilized unit.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

As for the reason why Kai did that, it was simple...

’You all need to level up... Don’t waste this chance.’ Kai mused.

Soon, their armors were finally taken care of. The B-Rank Sentinel’s defense was no longer a problem!

[ Enemy Unit Destroyed: Sentinel (B) ]

[ Experience Points distributed among all participants. ]

[ +800 Experience Points ]

Still, another B-Rank charged with a cannon raised.

This time, Kai’s body blurred as his Titan Step activated...

[ Titan Step Lv0: A fused mobility skill that allows the user to phase through attacks, charge forward with Spirit. Allows the user to phase through attacks for 1.5 seconds, gains 40% damage resistance while charging forward, and temporarily transforms the right arm to increase melee damage by 50% for the next strike.

Spirit Point Cost: 75

Cooldown: 25 seconds

Duration: 20 seconds ]

Just like that, with his armored energy coating his frame, his movement became a brutal speed and force. He collided with the machine, shoulder first, sending it skidding back into a collapsed trench.

Boom!

The defenders gasped. Althea, still catching her breath, felt her chest tighten.

He’s really back... and he’s already turning the tide.’

Kai’s passive skills worked silently in the background. Bio‑Adaptive Constitution kept his body resilient, shrugging off strain. Great Protection layered his defenses, while Slayer’s Flow sharpened his instincts and reaction time...

[ Great Protection Lv0: Combines hardened defense with heightened combat resilience. Provides 25% physical defense, 15% damage resistance and stabilizes Spirit flow to reduce any further damage cost by Skills. ]

[ Slayer’s Flow Lv0: Enhances Spirit efficiency while sharpening instinctive awareness of hostile intent. Reduces Spirit cost of active skills by 10%, increases detection of enemy hostility within 20 meters, and improves reaction speed by 15%. ]

Kai exhaled as he looked at the remaining units...

"A few more... Let’s break them here."

And with that, Kai advanced with his black gear on!

In the meantime, when Alfie had arrived alongside Kai, he immediately went to help the team crushed by debris from the Snake Vessel.

Though his entrance was far less dramatic he didn’t mind it.

While Kai’s black gear was fighting, Alfie was already cracking his knuckles, grinning like a man about to smash open a tavern door.

"Alright, snake‑things," he muttered, hefting his massive mace onto his shoulder. "Let’s see how well you slither when you’re flat as pancakes."

The serpent‑like vessels swooped low, ready to destroy the walls as expected.

Defenders braced themselves, but Alfie didn’t wait.

His Gladiator Talent surged, and soon, his muscles were bulging, veins glowing faintly as Spirit energy coursed through him.

He charged forward, swinging his mace in wide arcs that looked more like a lumberjack chopping trees than a warrior fighting machines.

The first vessel dipped too close!

Alfie roared, leaping higher than anyone thought possible for a man his size, and brought his mace down with a thunderous crash.

Boom!

The serpent’s head crumpled like tin, its riders thrown off in a heap.

Alfie landed hard, laughing.

"Ha! One down! Who’s next?"

The second vessel tried to veer away, but Alfie wasn’t having it.

He sprinted after it, his heavy boots didn’t matter at all.

"Don’t run! I’m not done with you!" Aflie threw his mace like a cannonball, and just like that, the weapon spun over and over before smashing into the vessel’s body...

Crash!

The serpent buckled before it started spiraling into the ground.

Alfie jogged over, picked up his mace, and dusted it off as he’d just dropped a spoon.

"Two for me. Kai, you keeping count? I’m winning."

Defenders stared in disbelief...

Althea couldn’t help but smirk despite the chaos. His ridiculous bravado was even infectious.

He turned to the remaining Sentinels, twirling his mace like it weighed nothing.

"Alright, shiny boys. You saw what happened to the pets. Now it’s your turn. Come on, let’s dance!"

Even in the middle of blood and fire, Alfie’s humor cut through the tension. He wasn’t just fighting... he was performing, making the impossible look like a game.

And somehow, that reckless confidence gave the survivors the courage to keep standing.

Kai glanced at him as his mouth twitched in the faintest smirk. "Just don’t get yourself killed, Alfie."

Alfie grinned back, raising his mace. "Me? Nah. I’m too handsome to die."

And with that, the Gladiator charged again, ready to smash through whatever came next.
