Chapter 405. Final Destination, Cauldron Obtained, Dark Shadow

As a dragon, Yinglong was well aware of what was in the Dragon Penitentiary. It knew that even though the cauldron looked as if it had been haphazardly placed inside a random jail cell, it had an array placed on it.

Even though many years had passed since it was placed, the array remained alive. Of course, it wasn't as strong as it was back when it was just made.

As for whether Lu Yuan could actually take the cauldron, Yinglong wasn't sure. Its job was to bring Lu Yuan here. Deep down, however, Yinglong hoped Lu Yuan could take the cauldron away, as this world was going to profit from Lu Yuan becoming even stronger.

"Is that so?" Lu Yuan replied. Then he walked slowly toward the cauldron. He didn't make a move. Instead, he chose to observe it first. The rust on its surface covered the patterns engraved on it, leaving only a rough outline of what the cauldron was supposed to look like.

Lu Yuan took a deep breath and placed his hand on the cauldron.

Buzz! Boom!

A surge of powerful energy erupted from within the cauldron. Then a thunderous explosion echoed afterward. The explosion was so powerful that the entire Dragon Penitentiary trembled.

Lu Yuan had barely made contact with the cauldron, but a terrifying backlash already swept across him. Had it not been for his formidable physique, he would have been blasted away from the cauldron.

If he weren't an Immortal, withstanding the backlash would feel extremely difficult, even for someone like him.

And the passage of time has eroded the array's power. If the array were fresh, even I would struggle to resist it, Lu Yuan thought, genuinely impressed. The array deserves its reputation as the work of someone whom Yinglong called a great figure.

That so-called great figure has to be several stages of evolution higher than me, but it had been a very long time since this array was set. Can this array really stop me? Lu Yuan smiled at the thought and mustered even more power.

Rumble!

Golden vital qi poured out of him like a deluge as Lu Yuan manifested the full might of an Immortal. The deluge of golden vital qi rushed toward the array, pushing back against it.

In response, the array resisted fiercely, becoming even stronger by the second.

Boom!

The Dragon Penitentiary shuddered, and the ground beneath their feet split open. The clash between the two was terrifying. If they were on the surface, a massive earthquake would be triggered.

"Whoever placed this array on the cauldron was incredibly powerful. I believe they might be a Domain Lord," Jiang Ningxian said, watching the scene unfold as she added, "But countless years have passed since then, and the power within this array is almost exhausted. Soon, Lu Yuan will destroy the array."

She hadn't made contact with the cauldron herself, but she could clearly feel the power of the array on it. However, she believed the ordeal wouldn't take long, as Lu Yuan was already an Immortal.

Rumble!

Sure enough, just as Jiang Ningxian had predicted, the stalemate didn't last long as Lu Yuan seized the upper hand. The energy radiating from him had become severalfold stronger. The array was laid down by a great figure of the dragon race, but too much time had passed since then.

In no time, the array's power was exhausted, and then it was obliterated. When the array dissolved to nothingness, Lu Yuan breathed a sigh of relief. "It's done."

As expected of an array laid down by one of the dragon race's big shots. Had it not been for the fact that time had virtually exhausted it, Lu Yuan wouldn't have been able to annihilate it.

Unfortunately for them, Lu Yuan was strong enough to obliterate the array, and now, he was going to take the cauldron for himself. Lu Yuan reached out, grabbed the cauldron, and put it away—mission complete.

Having achieved their goal, Lu Yuan turned around to head back. His only goal was to obtain the cauldron. Since he had already obtained it, there was no reason for him to stay any longer.

Boom!

Just then, a powerful explosion rocked the Dragon Penitentiary. Then a powerful, bone-chilling aura erupted out of nowhere. Ao Ze and Jiang Ningxian tensed up, and their expressions changed as they turned toward where it had come from.

The bone-chilling aura seemed to be coming from a prison cell that was way beyond the deepest recesses of the Dragon Penitentiary. Cracks had spread across the prison cell, and it looked as if it were about to explode.

As the seconds passed, the aura pouring out of it grew stronger and stronger.

"Something is trying to get out of that cell," Jiang Ningxian said with narrowed eyes. Then she turned to Yinglong and asked, "Do you know what's in that cell?"

Yinglong shook its head blankly. "I have no idea. Even if something is in there, it should be dead by now. There's no way they're still alive."

Immortals could live for a very long time, but only under the right conditions. Thanks to the Separation of Heaven and Earth, Earth's World Force dissipated completely. As a result, even those at the apex of evolution would find themselves deteriorating every day.

In other words, even an Immortal would find themselves becoming weaker and weaker. In the end, whatever was in prison would have deteriorated into something weaker than a mortal human being. Of course, those weaker than a mortal human being would have died a long time ago in their prison cell.

"Be careful. They're strong," Lu Yuan remarked. He stared at the cell, and a faint glow appeared in his eyes as he activated the Martial Dao Heavenly Eyes. To his surprise, he could not see through whatever was inside.

Boom!

Another deafening explosion echoed, eliciting tremors that ran across the entire Dragon Penitentiary. Before anyone could react, the prison cell shattered, and a figure emerged from within, walking out slowly.

The figure was shrouded in black mist, making them appear like a dark shadow. It was also giving off an overwhelmingly oppressive and sinister aura. It seemed like a demon that had crawled its way out of hell.

"Finally... I'm out," the figure said. Its voice was jarring, akin to the sound of metal scraping against metal. Then it sensed something and turned its gaze toward Lu Yuan. "Oh? An Immortal with such a powerful vital qi! Nice. A decent meal."

The figure extended an appendage that was black and shriveled. The appendage looked like it had no traces of moisture in it. Just as it extended toward Lu Yuan, black scales emerged across its surface, making it appear sinister. The appendage transformed until it became a dragon claw with four talons.

"Hmph!" Lu Yuan snorted coldly in the face of the dragon claw's formidable aura. Golden vital qi burst out of him, and the Heaven-Earth Furnace materialized as well; Lu Yuan had decided to manifest it, as it seemed capable of dispelling any sinister energies.

Lu Yuan raised his hand and drove his fist into the oncoming claw.
