Chapter 45: Engaged

Anning didn’t avert her eyes even after Wanqing finished speaking, although her whole face was practically red at that point. She definitely didn’t want to seem like some love sick puppy. (She already was though).

"Well, you are putting on quite the show for me," Anning muttered, running her tongue over lower lip as she took in Wanqing’s appearance.

Her skin was smooth and supple, devoid of any sort of blemishes.

She had wide hips that without a doubt was a turn on, her large slightly drooping breast and her pink nipple made Anning freeze slightly. Her eyes went lower to her long legs, they were curvy and added more allure to her figure.

When her eyes moved upward to the v shape between her legs, Wanqing swiftly turned away.

"I thought you only turned naughty when you’re drunk, but it seems I was wrong." Wanqing said, chuckling softly beneath her breath. She might have been laughing, but the expression on her face barely changed.

Anning couldn’t help but let out a small laugh too. She turned toward the corner of the room and immediately noticed the pile of clothes neatly arranged on the bed.

"Come over here," Wanqing said, lifting a white ruqun into the air.

Anning walked over before carefully taking it from her hands. Even before touching it, she could already tell this wasn’t ordinary fabric. The silk felt smooth beneath her fingertips and far softer than anything she had worn since arriving here.

The style itself looked almost identical to the one she was currently wearing. The only difference was the embroidery and the price of the materials.

The dress she had in hand had embroidery that had been made using black thread and small white rhinestones.

It looked expensive and without being told, she knew it was definitely expensive.

Anning stared at it for a few seconds before lifting her head.

"Do you need help getting dressed?" asked Anning.

"No.You can stay here and get changed," Wanqing replied.

Then without another word, she grabbed her own clothes and disappeared into the bathing chamber behind her room.

Anning stared after her for a few moments before shrugging.

Less work for me then.

Without wasting another second, she quickly took off her clothes before carefully slipping into the new ones Wanqing had given her. Once she finished adjusting the layers properly, she bent down and slipped on the sandals she had received on her first day here.

Then she thought about her hair.

Anning stared at her reflection in the bronze mirror for a few seconds before deciding not to stress herself over it. She calmly ran her fingers through it, pushed a few strands behind her ear and decided that was good enough.

Several minutes later, the bathroom doors slid open.

"Shit!" Wanqing cursed, trying to lift her dress as she stepped out.

Anning instinctively looked up, but then paused.

The ruqun Wanqing wore looked similar to hers, only far more detailed. Dark fabric wrapped neatly around her figure while delicate gold embroidery climbed along the sleeves and edges like flowing branches. The colors weren’t loud or flashy, but somehow they still demanded attention.

And on Wanqing... It looked unfairly good and reminded her of something called a couples outfit.

Honestly, everything looked good on Wanqing but that one thought had her blushing, hard!

Rich people really had life on easy mode, she thought.

Wanqing walked toward the sitting mat near the low table before lowering herself onto it. Then she lifted her eyes toward Anning.

"Do my hair."

Anning didn’t refuse, she just smiled slightly. Why?

Because heaven clearly refused to let her rest.

Without saying anything, she walked over and sat behind Wanqing. A few familiar tools had already been arranged beside them and after staring at them briefly, she picked up the small bottle of scented oil.

Pouring a little onto her palms, she rubbed her hands together before carefully running her fingers through Wanqing’s hair.

Soft.

That was the first thing that came into her mind.

Anning slowly worked her fingers through the long black strands, carefully spreading the oil from top to bottom while trying not to tug too hard.

Silence settled between them. Only the sound of distant footsteps and rustling leaves could be heard from outside.

But Anning couldn’t stop thinking.

Ever since waking up this morning, one question had been sitting in the back of her mind.

At first she thought she could ignore it. Then she thought she didn’t care.

Now? It was becoming more of a problem for her.

Anning hesitated for a few moments before cautiously speaking.

"Who is the Imperial Princess to you?"

Her fingers slowed slightly as she waited.

Waited for an answer she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to hear.

"You shouldn’t be asking questions about my private life, Anning." Wanqing said calmly.

Anning frowned at her answer. Moments ago, Wanqing had been asking Anning to tell her who made her cry. But now, she couldn’t even answer a question as simple as this?

Anning swallowed hard before saying, "If you tell me who she is to you, I’ll tell you who made me cry?"

But the moment those words left her mouth, Wanqing let out a cold, almost dismissive scoff.

"You are in no position to negotiate with me," Wanqing stated. "Get back to work."

Anning gritted her teeth silently, she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Why wasn’t she in a position to negotiate? Because she was a slave?

Instead of going back to work like Wanqing ordered, she said..."Your father tried to make a move on me."

Time seemed to stop as those words left her mouth. She shouldn’t be telling Wanqing something like this, especially since they were expecting a guest.

But, she was allowed to be selfish. At least for now.

"He did what?!" Wanqing said coldly, already turning around to face Anning. Anning placed a hand on Wanqing’s shoulder and gave her a small smile.

"We’ll talk about this later." She said and though Wanqing was a bit reluctant, she nodded. "But, tell me who the imperial princess is to you?"

"We’re engaged."
