Chapter 42: My sweet girl

Anning recognized General Gu’s voice in a blink of an eye, for a brief second...she didn’t move. Then, she glared at Han Luo one more time before turning in the direction where the voice had come from.

Lo and behold, General Gu was indeed standing a few feet away from her. He had two guards right behind him and Yufang standing by his side with a small grin on her lips.

"My Lord." The maids and even Han Luo said in unison. Their eyes fixed to the floor as they bowed deeply.

Anning didn’t even twitch, she wasn’t in the mood for anymore drama and just seeing that grin on yufang’s face, had her hands curling into fists.

"This attitude of yours really upsets me." General Gu said after a few seconds, his cold eyes fixed directly on Anning.

Anning noticed that whatever General Gu was feeling at that moment wasn’t reflecting in his words, could that mean he wasn’t really upset?

She smiled slightly, clasping her hands together in front of her body as she took a step forward.

"My Lord, please forgive my behavior. But my morning hasn’t been really bright." She said softly, blinking up at the older man. "We were actually on our way to your office."

"M-my Lord, that isn’t true! She slapped me." The maid that had spoken earlier cried out, taking a step toward General Gu. But one glance from Anning had her taking a step backwards.

"Yufang, deal with this." General Gu said calmly before turning around. "Follow me."

He added and then began walking down the hall. Anning stared at his back for a brief moment, her face scrunching up in confusion.

"Is he talking to me?" She said, turning her head to stare at the maid standing beside her and then Han Luo, who looked like he might actually pass out at that moment.

"Anning. Just go!" He said, pointing at the direction General Gu had just walked in.

Anning wanted to snap at him for talking to her in such a manner, but she didn’t want to offend another person today. She gave him a stiff smile and immediately ran after General Gu.

She had no idea why General Gu couldn’t just tell her to come with him in simple English. Chinese wasn’t bad but the way he asked her to come with him...was a bit improper.

Now, she found herself trailing behind the older man and his two guards. They had gotten to a completely different part of the residence, this part was dimly lit and felt slightly cold. But she didn’t comment about it, who was she to complain after all?

They walked for a few minutes before coming to stand in front of two large double oak doors, even with how dark the place was... the door still gleamed faintly.

The guards moved forward, pulling the door open as General Gu stepped into the room. The guards left the door open for her and then positioned themselves on either side of the entrance.

Anning bit on her lower lip, staring into the now open office. To be honest, she felt sick. Her hands were trembling and it felt like her heart might burst out of her throat at any moment.

"Anning, don’t test my patience." General Gu said. He stood in front of an open window, with a small tobacco pipe in hand.

He wasn’t looking at her, but he still knew she was yet to step into the room.

This whole situation screamed danger, but Anning being a complete dare devil. She stepped into the office before closing the door behind her.

Anning took a deep breath before asking in the most polite tone she could muster, "Why am I here?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"Mm" General Gu hummed softly, turning around to face Anning. At first, he didn’t respond. His eyes left her face and slowly trailed down her body, his gaze taking in every curve.

Anning noticed immediately, with the way he was staring at her so vulgarly... She knew this would end up being a trap.

"You claimed my daughter in front of a crowd, and you stand there asking me why I called you here?" General Gu asked, taking a puff of smoke from the tobacco pipe and slowly exhaling.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t discard you right now."

Anning swallowed hard, biting the inside of her cheek as she took her step backward. This was just for security measures, this way her back was pressed against the door and she could make a run for it... the second this old hag tried to do something stupid.

"Escaping now, would do you more harm than good." General Gu said, chuckling at his own words.

He straightened his posture and then began walking toward Anning.

Anning reached out to grab the handle of the door, her lips still stretched into a sweet and polite smile.

’Open. Please, don’t let this fucking happen to me’ she thought inwardly, trying to pull the door open but it wasn’t even budging.

For a brief second, she took her eyes off General Gu and fully turned to face the door. She grabbed the handle of the door, wrapped her fingers tightly around it and then pulled backwards hoping it would at least make a small creak.

But sadly, she failed.

"I told you escaping would only make this worse."

General Gu said, placing his hand on her arm. Anning swiftly slapped his hand off her, and tried to turn... hoping she could put some sort of distance between them.

But it was at that point she finally learnt, the members of the Gu family would do anything to get what they wanted.

General Gu placed a hand on her lower back and then pushed her firmly against the door.

Anning didn’t want this. She could feel her heart racing for the hundredth time today, her face had gone completely pale and her stomach.

God, she felt her stomach churn... painfully.

"Now, Wǒ kě’ài de nǚhái. Tell me, do you still want to escape?" (My sweet girl)
