Chapter 26: One Of Your Kind
The scar faced man, Han Luo, scoffed at Anning’s words before grabbing her by the arm and pushing her upright. The moment he let go of her, he took a step back as though the mere thought of being beside her made him feel uncomfortable. After all, a girl like Anning wasn’t to be underestimated.
Anning stood still for barely a second before her knees buckled underneath her body. Something that now seemed like a habit.
Han Luo’s expression didn’t change as he moved forward and caught her by the shoulders before she could hit the ground. "Are you sure you’re alright?"
Anning nodded weakly, though the spinning room made her feel a bit disoriented. Now that the adrenaline had worn off, her body felt sore and unbearably heavy.
Her neck was still throbbing and the bite on her hand stung... all in all, she was feeling like shit at that moment.
Still, when her gaze landed on the armored guard standing a few feet away from them with that damned snake wrapped comfortably around him, her face darkened immediately.
Her lips curled into a not so pleasing smile.
"Help me up," She muttered, staring directly at the guard.
Han Luo frowned. "What?"
"Pull. Me. Up!"
There was something unsettling about the smile on her face made Han Luo instantly know whatever was going to happen now, wasn’t going to be good. He glanced at his comrade then back at Anning before finally sighing in defeat and offering her his hand.
"What are you planning on doing?" He asked carefully.
Anning ignored him completely.
The moment she was back on her feet, she rolled her shoulders slowly before shaking out her aching hands and legs. Her eyes never left the guard and the snake hanging around him like some treasured pet.
Han Luo immediately took a step backward before saying, "Ya... don’t do anything stupid."
Too late.
Anning suddenly closed the distance between her and the guard so quickly, that everyone in the room stared at her figure in surprise.
"You little—!"
She grabbed the snake by the head before yanking it violently off the man’s arm. The python twisted wildly in her grip, its body wriggling in obvious discomfort before Anning hurled it across the dungeon.
The snake hit the damp floor with a loud thud and this time, it didn’t even bother getting back up.
The guard stared at her like she had completely lost her mind. "You mad woman! It seems staying in the same room as that snake has truly made you insane."
Anning g didn’t even let him finish properly before fully launching herself at him. She wrapped both her legs tightly around his torso while both hands went to grab his ears, without mercy.
"You criminal!" She yelled directly into his face. "You locked me in a room with your pet snake. No, scratch that, with a freaking snake."
The guard cursed loudly, stumbling backwards as Anning kept pulling at his ears with enough force to make his face turn red. Han Luo merely stared at the chaotic scene in disbelief.
This woman truly had too much energy for someone that had just fainted moments ago.
"Get off me!" The guard snapped, desperately trying to pry her off him.
Anning only tightened her legs around him further whilst screaming, "No! You deserve this!"
Her hand left his ear and slowly moved to his hair, yanking harder as the man finally let out an actual scream this time.
Han Luo finally decided enough was enough. He stepped forward to separate them only for Anning’s fist to swing backward and slam directly into his cheek.
What followed was a loud smack that echoed through the dungeon.
Han Luo, whose head had been thrown to the side due to the impact of the punch, slowly turned his head towards her, utterly speechless.
Anning froze glancing over her shoulder. "That one was a mistake."
The assaulted guard immediately burst out laughing despite his suffering. "Serves your right!"
Han Luo’s eyes twitched in annoyance. He exhaled sharply before reaching down, gripping Anning’s waist firmly and lifting her clean off the other guard’s body
Anning immediately began kicking her legs, trying to pry his hand off her waist. "Hey! You can’t keep touching me like this. Put me down right now!"
"You’ve lost your mind," Han Luo muttered flatly.
The guard whose ears had almost been torn off his head hurriedly stumbled away from her whilst glaring. One side of his hair now looked completely disheveled thanks to Anning’s attack.
"That woman is insane," he hissed angrily before storming out of the dungeon.
When Han Luo placed her back on the ground, Anning finally stopped struggling. She brushed several strands of silver hair away from her sweaty face before glaring in the direction the guard had just left in.
"He deserves worse," she grumbled.
Han Luo, however, wasn’t paying attention to her complaints anymore.
His eyes had fallen onto the long cut at the front of her neck. It was now he noticed the blood that had stained the collar of her clothes and against her pale skin, it looked worse.
His brows drew together instantly and without warning, he grabbed both her wrist and pulled her slightly closer. "What happened to your neck?"
His voice sounded colder this time and this made Anning freeze for a brief second before finally remembering she had actually been injured earlier.
The sting suddenly became more noticeable now that someone had pointed it out. She quickly yanked her hands away from his grip and took a small step backward.
"You don’t need to worry about me," she muttered defensively. "After all, it was one of your kind that did this to me."
"Luo? I asked you to bring my slave back up. Not stand here whilst acting like her husband." A voice suddenly said.
Anning took a step forward and then spun around to face whoever had been standing behind her.
Wanqing. Not surprising.
"My Lady." Han Luo said, bowing deeply.
Wanqing nodded once at him before turning to Anning. "You’re still alive."
