Chapter 1017: Chapter 1015: Gray Omen

These Fierce Ghosts, full of resentment, sharp-mouthed and fanged, eyes soaked with blood and tears.

An ordinary person seeing this would probably be scared out of their wits.

However, what shocked Chu Hao the most was when the Fiery Eyes and Golden Pupils saw that the humpbacked elder was entirely composed of gray matter.

Chu Hao was too familiar with this substance, it was clearly the gray matter within the Rebirth Realm, Hell Gate.

How is that possible!

The gray matter within Hell Gate has actually taken human form!

Moreover, he’s looking at me.

Chu Hao had been to the Rebirth Realm and was very aware of the terrifying nature of gray matter; if not for the Reincarnation Blade, he would have been ensnared and killed by the gray matter.

This humpbacked elder showed no interest in Sword Star Lord, instead glaring at Chu Hao with a bizarre smile.

It seems that something about Chu Hao has captured the interest of the humpbacked elder!

Chu Hao frowned, noticing that the humpbacked elder’s gaze was peculiar.

Because his eyes were not just looking at Chu Hao, but at some other thing!

Chu Hao couldn’t help but shiver from the cold.

The humpbacked elder let out a strange laugh, bent down, and put something down.

Then, he turned and left with his hands behind his back.

Before long, his figure disappeared into the depths of the wind and sand.

Chu Hao stared at the object left by the humpbacked elder; it was a piece of paper.

Chu Hao approached, and even Sword Star Lord couldn’t stop him.

He bent down to pick up the paper, which had a line of text on it.

"Friend, why not come in for a chat!"

Chu Hao was stunned; who was this humpbacked elder delivering a message to?

"Leave."

Suddenly, an extremely icy voice appeared within Chu Hao’s consciousness.

Chu Hao was shocked and said, "Who’s speaking?"

"Leave quickly."

Chu Hao shivered all over, feeling more terrified than seeing ghosts, and turned to leave.

On the way back, Chu Hao frowned, wondering who was speaking earlier?

He took out the Dead Man’s Scripture, thinking perhaps only a near-dead Ghost Demon stuck inside it could communicate with him.

Chu Hao’s scalp tingled as he said, "Was it you speaking?"

The voice did not reappear.

Chu Hao cursed; the Dead Man’s Scripture he had obtained with great effort had now become a residence for a Ghost Demon.

Chu Hao said, "If it was you speaking, respond to me."

Still, the voice did not continue.

Chu Hao was furious; having such a Ghost Demon around made him uneasy, and he said, "If you don’t speak, I’ll throw the Dead Man’s Scripture into the Great Nether Abyss."

Still no response.

Chu Hao decisively turned back.

When he returned to the mountaintop, he discovered the humpbacked elder appeared again, standing within the stele of the Great Nether Abyss, smiling at him.

Chu Hao increasingly felt the strangeness of this humpbacked elder, as if waiting for him.

Chu Hao said, "I’ll throw you in; I don’t need the Dead Man’s Scripture."

Chu Hao was about to throw it.

Finally, the voice reappeared, sighing, "Leave, it wants to eat you."

Chu Hao finally confirmed one hundred percent that the voice was indeed the nearly dead Ghost Demon inside the Dead Man’s Scripture.

Chu Hao’s scalp went numb; back then the Ghost Demon was almost killed under a sword, yet it could still speak now.

"Why does it want to eat me?"

The voice said, "Your soul carries gray misfortune, which is the unidentified substance every person returning from the Rebirth Realm gets entangled with."

Chu Hao was stunned.

"Is this thing very dangerous?"

The voice said, "Not just dangerous; if you don’t quickly dispel the gray misfortune, you might turn into a Fierce Ghost, disown your family, self-destruct, and eventually become one of the filthy things around him."

Chu Hao was terrified, his legs shaking.

The humpbacked elder was surrounded by too many Fierce Ghosts; if he turned into that, how tragic would that be?

"Don’t scare me," Chu Hao said.

The voice said, "You can try; approach him, but don’t cross the stele boundary, temporarily you won’t get into trouble."

Chu Hao also wanted to try to see what misfortunes were on him.

He slowly approached the humpbacked elder.

The elder’s gaze carried a bizarre smile, seemingly very much anticipating Chu Hao to step in.

Suddenly, Chu Hao saw the group of Resentful Ghosts around the humpbacked elder raise their heads and all look towards him.

Chu Hao was startled.

This feeling was as if they saw a companion!

Chu Hao got goosebumps all over.

The voice continued, "The misfortune on you can only be sensed by these Fierce Ghosts."

When did he become tainted with the gray misfortune?

Clearly carrying the Reincarnation Blade; isn’t that blade supposed to avoid the gray misfortune?

The humpbacked elder waved for Chu Hao to hurry over as if inviting him.

The humpbacked elder opened his mouth, revealing a set of yellow teeth, saying, "I can help you settle the Foreign Ghosts of Yang Realm."

Chu Hao was shocked; the elder saw through the deepest desires of his heart.

The voice came again, saying, "Don’t listen to him; he’s more terrifying than the Foreign Ghosts, and once he enters Yang Realm, the Realm of Yanhuang Yangjian will become the next Death Realm."

Chu Hao couldn’t help but ask, "Then why are you following me?"

The voice sighed, saying, "I’m already dead, with just a ray of soul light, unable to be revived; following you is not my desire but the desire of the corpse."

Chu Hao was displeased, feeling he was being fooled, saying, "What do you mean by the corpse’s desire, can a corpse choose for you?"

"This corpse has been dead for too long; intelligence is slowly being born."

"Then what exactly are you?" Chu Hao asked.

"I can’t recall what I am, but I can assure you I’m not this corpse’s master; by chance, my soul light attached to this corpse."

Chu Hao said, "So you’re not a Ghost Demon?"

The voice said, "What you refer to as Ghost Demon is a Ghost Slave from the Rebirth Realm. Ghost Slaves are indeed formidable but not as much as the misfortune before you."

Ghost Demon is just a Ghost Slave from the Rebirth Realm?

Where there are slaves, there must be masters.

Who is their master?

Chu Hao increasingly felt that the Rebirth Realm was not ordinarily strange.

"How can I trust what you say? Maybe you’re trying to harm me," Chu Hao remained skeptical.

The voice said, "If I wanted to harm you, I would have acted long ago, not waited until now."

Chu Hao said, "What if you’re waiting for the opportunity?"

The voice said, "I can prove it."

"How to prove?"

"Let the corpse out; it can help you scare away this elder."

Chu Hao said, "Didn’t you just say you can’t control the corpse? Trying to fool me again."

"The corpse’s consciousness is asleep; simple control I can still manage."

Chu Hao took out the Dead Man’s Scripture and opened it.

Immediately, the broken corpse appeared on its own, landing on the ground.

The humpbacked elder saw the corpse and couldn’t help but step back; he looked viciously at Chu Hao, very afraid of this corpse.

Finally, the humpbacked elder gave Chu Hao a hateful look and turned to walk into the Great Nether Abyss.

"He really fears it!"

Chu Hao had a lot of questions in his mind and said, "Didn’t you say the gray misfortune is more powerful than Ghost Demon?"

The voice said, "This corpse is special; it might be among the top-tier Ghost Demons, able to generate intelligence over endless ages and has even broken free from the Rebirth Realm."

"Note that Ghost Slaves cannot leave the Rebirth Realm."
