Chapter 65: Unexpected Meeting
[Negative, Host’s memories have not been tampered with, but Host may have spent much more of his time trapped in the Beast’s illusion compared to what he believes.]
Just as he was about to ponder more into that matter, a few loud human screams reached his ears.
Kale instantly became alert and pushed the matter to the back of his mind. He mentally commanded Neo to stay alert, but the Hydra didn’t seem to care much.
The Cursed Tamer slowly drew closer to the direction where he heard the screams of the people.
After closing a certain amount of distance, he climbed onto the branches of a tree swiftly; his strength and speed had far exceeded what they were before his breakthrough to becoming an Apprentice Tamer.
Eventually, his gaze landed on the group of 8 people who were being besieged by one Peak Feral-rank Vine Beast; they were almost close to being killed by the creature.
Those 8 people seemed already gravely injured, barely holding on; in fact, it was already a wonder that those mundane people could stand against a Feral-rank creature for a few minutes.
But as Kale looked more closely at the people’s faces, he was taken aback; he knew them.
It was the Wolfberg mercenary team, the very group who had helped him reach the capital, the people who had hired him to carry some dead weight at the time.
Kale’s expression changed instantly; if it were anyone else, he would not have cared much, but those people he could not simply let them die. But Kale did not jump in immediately; rather, he scanned the surrounding area carefully once more.
And then he dashed forward without hesitation; his speed caused the countless leaves spread on the forest bed to rustle.
Kale brought out a dagger-like weapon and, for the first time, used the skill mana manipulation, and with his immense reservoir of mana, enchanted his entire physique as well as the dagger in hand and cut at the shooting tendrils of vine attacking the helpless mercenary team.
Kachink, shrink....
What happened next had surprised even the Cursed Tamer himself; he cut through the rough and steely vines as if it were a hot knife slicing through butter.
The Vine Beast immediately pulled back, sensing danger. The Wolfberg Mercenary team also hurriedly stepped back, shocked by the arrival of this unknown figure.
Just as the Vine Beast was about to attack once more.
Neo roared with all three of its heads, "GRAAAAH—SHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
The Vine Beast instantly shuddered and moved back; Neo’s roar was monstrous and threatening, sounding like a mix of a dragon’s growl and the hissing of a threatening snake. Its narrowed slip of a pupil looked down on the Vine-like creature.
Without the need for any command from Kale, Neo flapped its wings as the three-headed Hydra dashed towards the fleeing Vine Beast; it was almost comical that a 2-meter-tall Vine Beast was frantically fleeing from a palm-sized creature.
The people on the mercenary team also witnessed this anomalous event and looked dazed.
Kale did not look at the group of people; rather, he stared at Neo, carefully seeing what it would do.
He expected some struggle from the Vine Beast, and yet his little three-headed winged Hydra literally tore apart the Vine Beast, which was like a mess of countless wriggling vines.
All three jaws of Neo contained a strength that could not be measured simply by the size of the creature.
Of course, the Vine Beast, with its numerous tendrils, tried its best to tie up the little creature, but Neo intelligently flew through the gaps and was faster in its flight, and directly attacked the weak part of the Vine Beast.
In a matter of a few minutes, the Beast was utterly destroyed. Neo ripped off the small fleshy body of the creature and, underneath all those vines, devoured the green pulsing core, one bite at a time.
Instantly, Kale received a notification,
[The Nemesis Hydra has devoured the Beast core of a peak Feral rank Poison Vine type Beast]
[The Hydra has gained 0.0001% poison immunity]
[Host must continue to feed Poison Beast Cores to the Hydra to further increase its poison immunity with the possibility of it gaining the Poison Trait in its blood.]
Kale smiled; as expected, that damn overpowered Devour trait had gone into effect.
From behind, the injured leader of the Wolfbern mercenary team spoke up, still in shock, "What the hell is that thing? I’ve never even heard of a creature like that with three heads, and it almost looks like a dragon."
He added after a pause, "But I can feel that it is a Lesser Feral rank Beast; how could it so easily kill the Vine Beast like that?"
The team leader then looked at the green-haired young man, who also seemed not to be normal and possessed unbelievable strength; the ease with which he cut through the Creature’s almost unbreakable vines attacking them was not to be overlooked.
As far as he knew, no Apprentice Tamer was supposed to possess that much strength inherently.
But he tactfully did not mention it, and he and his people remained wary of this unknown person.
Kale turned around and finally looked at the people he just saved; he could see that they did not recognise him. He sighed, "Team Leader, you really don’t recognise me?"
The team leader was taken aback, "I’m sorry, Tamer, but I don’t recognise you."
Only then did Kale remember just how much of his appearance had changed compared to the kid he was back then. He chuckled, "You don’t remember the kid that carried the weights on your way to the capital; you don’t remember sharing the meat of the Red Lobster with me?"
All eight people’s eyes widened, and they stared at Kale’s face, scrutinising him thoroughly.
The Team leader stumbled, "Wait, you do look familiar. No way, are you really that kid? But that’s impossible. Why is your hair green, and why are you so big and tall?"
Neo returned atop Kale’s head after finishing its meal. While Kale sat down and briefly explained his situation, that he had joined the Association and came here to hatch the egg of a special Chimaera beast.
Kale did not reveal any explicit information about himself, keeping things vague; the mercenary people also tactfully refrained from asking any personal questions.
Kale asked, "Can I ask why you are all here?"
The Team leader said tentatively, "A few master rank individuals had hired us to retrieve their Beast eggs from the Swamp hatchery, because only mundane people can go into that place, but they fled when almost a dozen peak Feral-rank creatures ambushed us."
"And, ironically enough, except for one, the rest of the Beasts went after the fleeing Masters," said the Team leader, his tone filled with disdain.
