Chapter 241: No Point Talking. Let Us Fight
Not long after Hardaway spoke, two figures were forced out from the buildings beyond the square and had no choice but to retreat back inside.
They were another rebel and Tekular.
More than ten high ranking officers of the First Legion appeared and closed in with overwhelming force.
Although Tekular’s shackles had already been removed, his injuries were too severe.
He could not fight.
At this moment, he was no match for those dozen high ranking officers.
Besides, Hardaway, whose strength surpassed those officers, was also present.
It was an absolute dead end.
Hardaway said coldly, "Give up your meaningless resistance, and you may suffer less. Today, none of you have any chance of escaping from here."
"Sigh."
Tekular looked over their situation and could not help letting out a long sigh.
He apologized to the rebel companions who had gathered by his side.
"Everyone, I am sorry."
Darian shook his head and spoke the thoughts of the others.
"Commander, this was our own decision. You do not need to feel sorry for it."
Tekular’s expression hardened.
"Since it has come to this, we fight to the death."
The rebels laughed.
"Commander, we came here prepared to die from the start."
Hardaway’s face remained expressionless.
"In that case, all of you will be executed on the spot..."
In a daze, Cedran felt his consciousness growing blurrier.
His entire body was rapidly falling into endless darkness.
Hardaway’s voice faintly echoed beside his ears.
At the edge of death, he instead felt somewhat relaxed.
Perhaps his life would end here.
The only pity was that he was about to break his promise.
"Looks like I will not be able to buy you that drink..."
At that moment, a dazzling light suddenly appeared within the endless darkness.
Cedran’s spirit jolted.
His consciousness was rapidly pulled back to reality.
He opened his eyes and saw a shocking sight he would never forget for the rest of his life.
The soldiers of the First Legion had surrounded the entire execution square in layer after layer.
More than ten high ranking officers gave off immense pressure.
Hardaway dominated the entire scene.
Before such a formation, the rebels’ expressions were resolute.
No matter how brave they were, they all understood that this time, death was certain.
"A fatal situation."
"Looks like the show is about to end."
The experts watching from the side were either calm or amused.
Just as Hardaway was about to execute Cedran and Selene on the spot, his expression suddenly changed.
He raised his head and looked into the distance.
Then he decisively released Selene and retreated at once.
With fear in his eyes, Hardaway shouted, "Watch out!"
Before his words fell, a thunderous impact erupted.
A massive slash large enough to split mountains arrived in an instant.
Its terrifying destructive force cut everything along its path in two.
The flat ground turned into a divided chasm in a heartbeat.
The slash split straight through the execution square.
Then it continued without losing momentum.
Amid a rolling roar, it carved onward for several kilometers, forcibly splitting half of Blackwood City apart.
When the slash dispersed, everyone stood frozen, their faces blank with disbelief.
The watching experts felt chills run through their bodies.
Several of them had nearly been struck by the slash, and their hearts still had not settled.
When everyone finally saw the scene before them clearly, their breathing stopped.
Their eyes were filled with shock.
They could hardly believe what they were seeing.
The earth had been cut open.
The enormous slash mark extended for several kilometers and formed a terrifying abyss, tearing the ground into two halves.
Just looking at the scene made cold sweat rise across their foreheads.
What a terrifying slash.
Silence.
The air seemed to freeze.
For a time, the atmosphere became deathly still.
Everyone had been intimidated by that terrifying blow and stood rooted in place, not daring to move.
A moment later, someone finally spoke with a trembling voice.
"What kind of joke is this?"
"Can a human really release a slash like that?"
One spectator pressed a hand to the blade at his waist.
A drop of cold sweat slid down his forehead uncontrollably.
The others all became highly alert.
"Hiss. Looks like someone extraordinary has stepped in. I really hope I do not get dragged into this."
Footsteps sounded.
Everyone immediately grew even tenser and turned their gazes toward the direction of the slash.
A young man with a blade at his waist was slowly walking over.
Caelum’s gaze swept across the entire square.
His powerful aura seemed almost tangible, and the pressure it brought was so overwhelming that breathing became difficult.
"Everyone, how about ending this farce here?"
"If anyone still has not had enough, I would be very happy to accompany them to the end."
Hardaway’s gaze darkened.
"It is you!"
Caelum looked at Hardaway.
"We meet again."
The situation had originally been firmly under control, but Caelum’s intervention had changed everything.
Hardaway knew very well that Caelum’s strength was extraordinary, and the situation instantly became troublesome.
He questioned him.
"Who exactly are you? Are you a rebel?"
Caelum denied it.
"Just an idle passerby."
The rebels looked at one another.
Tekular, Darian, and Selene recognized Caelum.
The first had met Caelum in Hartstead.
The latter two had only just met him briefly.
But none of them could have imagined that Caelum possessed such terrifying strength.
Thinking of this, Selene suddenly reacted and quickly carried Cedran out of the pit.
Fortunately, the kid had a tough life.
He was not dead yet.
Footsteps sounded again.
"Legion Commander!"
At those words, the rebels were startled.
Theron had repeatedly inflicted heavy losses on the southern rebels.
Now, they feared the name of the First Legion Commander like a tiger.
Just hearing the title made them tense up.
Caelum’s forceful intervention had compelled Theron to appear.
After all, that slash just now was not something Hardaway and the others could handle.
Caelum studied Theron.
Leaving aside Haki, this man was at least a true expert in swordsmanship.
He should be a Grand Sword Master.
Theron placed a hand on the blade at his waist and walked before Caelum, his eyes sharp.
"Sir, why become an enemy of the Empire for the sake of a few mere rebels?"
The meaning was clear.
This matter absolutely could not end here.
There was no room to turn back.
Caelum understood.
"No point talking. It seems we still need to fight."
Theron showed no fear.
His gaze landed on the blade at Caelum’s waist.
"Cloudrend, one of the legendary thirteen famed blades. As it happens, I also wish to experience your swordsmanship."
"As you wish."
Caelum no longer wasted words.
Since the other party was a Grand Sword Master, and a super expert like the Legion Commander of the First Imperial Legion, he would bring out his true strength.
He never underestimated an enemy.
Even knowing he possessed power that stood absolutely above his opponent, he would never be careless.
He would never show mercy.
He would never give anyone an opening to exploit.
The moment Caelum drew Cloudrend, terrifying Conqueror Haki swept outward.
In a single exchange, the surrounding Imperial soldiers and rebels lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
Even Hardaway and Tekular, strong as they were, could not help growing dizzy.
Then they fell headfirst to the ground.
Even Theron felt his consciousness blur for a moment.
As for the spectators, they had long since lost consciousness, lying all over the ground in disarray.
In that instant, shock appeared on Theron’s face.
