Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Insect-Man

Long Ming gave the skeletons on the ground a quick glance. Seeing nothing of value, he walked into the first open room.

This was a records room. The file cabinets inside were toppled over and in disarray.

A skeleton in a uniform lay on the floor, and pinned to its chest was a fountain pen with a golden pattern.

Long Ming scanned it with his wristband.

Flourish Brand Fountain Pen

Grade: Blue

Function: Writing.

Long Ming was a little surprised. He didn’t expect to find something of such high quality here.

He immediately walked over, knelt down, took the pen, and put it into his backpack.

Long Ming got up and continued to search the other corners of the room, but unfortunately, he didn’t find anything else of value.

He then left the room, continued forward, and entered the second room.

This room was very spacious, filled with rows of office desks. Quite a few skeletons could be seen lying on the ground.

Long Ming walked over and inspected them one by one.

While checking the third body, he found a small folding knife in its pocket.

Long Ming unfolded the knife and toyed with it for a moment.

This folding knife would probably be useless in a fight, but its small size made it great for cutting things like rope. So he put it in his backpack and continued searching the room.

A moment later, Long Ming walked out of the room. He hadn’t found anything else of value.

Just then, Long Ming suddenly noticed that the door to a room up ahead was ajar, with a skeleton lying in the doorway.

Long Ming walked over. He glanced at the skeleton, saw nothing good on it, and pushed the ajar door open.

The scene before him instantly made an ecstatic expression appear on Long Ming’s face.

Inside, weapon racks were lined up, holding riot shields, batons, stab-proof vests...

Long Ming immediately walked in, full of excitement.

He picked up an extendable baton and swung it a few times. It seemed pretty good.

Without hesitation, Long Ming stuffed it into his backpack. Then, he picked up a riot shield to try it out, but it was a bit too big and heavy.

He reluctantly put the riot shield back.

Just then, Long Ming’s gaze fell on the stab-proof vests. As he was about to grab one, he suddenly noticed a bulletproof vest at the very back of the rack.

He decisively picked up the bulletproof vest and put it on.

Long Ming turned his head and continued to search. Just then, he saw a body lying on the floor.

This body was holding a Geco automatic pistol, and it also had a tactical belt around its waist.

Long Ming raised his wristband and scanned them.

Geco Automatic Pistol - Durability 41, 12 rounds remaining.

Tactical Belt

Durability: 95/100

...

Long Ming immediately went forward, removed the magazine from the Geco automatic pistol, then unfastened the tactical belt from the skeleton and strapped it around his own waist.

Then, he took the Geco automatic pistol from his pocket and the magazine in his hand, and secured them to the tactical belt.

After doing all this, Long Ming continued to search the room.

Soon, Long Ming found a cabinet with a row of training shoes on it.

Long Ming went over and searched for a bit, finding a pair that fit his feet and had high durability, which he then changed into.

He tried taking a few steps. They felt like a perfect, comfortable fit.

Long Ming looked at the other items in the room with satisfaction, but his expression turned regretful.

Although the items in the room were all very valuable, his carrying capacity was too limited to take them all.

Long Ming sighed, turned, left the room, and continued his search forward.

Soon, he reached the end of the second floor and saw a closed room in front of him.

Long Ming tried turning the doorknob, and the door opened smoothly.

It was a rather spacious room. Near the window, there was an office desk and a file cabinet.

Slumped over the desk was a corpse in a high-end black uniform. This corpse still had its skin.

When Long Ming saw this, his eyes instantly lit up.

’This must be the office of the Defense Bureau’s chief. That corpse must be the chief himself.’

’If I’m not mistaken, there must be something good in here.’

Just then, Long Ming suddenly noticed a lighter on the desk. The lighter was made of black metal, engraved with the image of a grim reaper, and inlaid with a dark red gemstone. It looked exceptionally valuable.

He immediately scanned it with his wristband.

Deadman Series · DK-01 Lighter

Durability: 98/100

Grade: Purple

Long Ming was taken aback. ’A lighter is actually Purple-grade?’

He walked over and reached for the lighter.

But just as Long Ming was about to pick up the lighter, the corpse slumped on the desk violently lifted its hideous head.

A face with blackened, shriveled skin and eyes like red light bulbs instantly filled his vision.

Long Ming was startled and scrambled backward in terror.

"Aaargh~"

The insectoid before him roared, its clothes bursting apart to reveal chitinous skin. It shoved the desk at Long Ming and then charged wildly.

Long Ming decisively dodged the desk and quickly raised his suppressed M24 to fire.

PFFT~

The bullet instantly hit the insectoid’s shoulder, and viscous fluid splattered out.

The insectoid didn’t fall. Instead, it lunged viciously at Long Ming, swiping with its sharp claws.

Long Ming hastily raised the body of his M24 to block.

CRACK!

A terrifying Power surged through the gun and into Long Ming.

Before Long Ming could react, he was forced back, crashing hard against the file cabinet.

BANG~

The aluminum cabinet dented slightly, and the glass on it shattered.

PFFT~

Long Ming nearly coughed up a mouthful of blood.

"ARGH!"

The insectoid relentlessly pressed down on Long Ming.

With his back against the wall, Long Ming held on for dear life, veins bulging on his forehead. ’This thing’s Power is just too immense.’

Just then, the insectoid reached out with its left claw and grabbed Long Ming’s shoulder.

Fortunately, Long Ming was wearing the bulletproof vest, so the claws didn’t pierce his body.

But before Long Ming could feel relieved, the insectoid grabbed him and violently flung him aside.

Long Ming went flying, slammed hard into the wall, and fell to the ground, almost passing out from the impact.

He forced himself to stand up through the pain. Just as he raised his gun, the monster was already in front of him, swiping with its claw.

SMACK~

The M24 was sent flying from Long Ming’s hands.

’It’s over!’

Long Ming’s heart sank.

At that moment, the monster before him reached out its right claw, grabbed Long Ming by the neck, and lifted him into the air.

Long Ming instantly found it hard to breathe, his face turning red.

Just as his neck was about to be snapped, he decisively drew the Geco automatic pistol from his tactical belt, pressed it against the creature’s lower jaw, and rapidly pulled the trigger.

BANG! BANG!

One bullet after another punched up into its head.

"AARGH~"

Along with a horrifying scream, the monster released its grip and staggered backward.

BANG! BANG!

Not taking any chances, Long Ming fired several more shots until it fell to the ground and stopped moving.

*Cough, cough*~

Long Ming clutched his neck, gasping for air.

At the same instant the gunshots rang out, countless red eyes lit up in the buildings surrounding the Defense Bureau.

After catching his breath, Long Ming immediately walked over and picked up his dropped M24.

Just then, Long Ming suddenly heard a rustling sound from the corridor outside the room.

Long Ming’s heart trembled. He sensed extreme danger; his instincts screamed at him to leave this place immediately.

He scanned his surroundings, quickly snatched the lighter, and decisively rushed to the window. With a great leap, he placed one hand on the windowsill and vaulted out.

THUD~

Long Ming landed on the ground, rolled several times, and scrambled awkwardly to his feet.

Just then, Long Ming suddenly noticed large swarms of red moths flying out from the surrounding buildings. In the distance, a dark cloud of flying insects wheeled around and headed in his direction.

’Not good!’

Long Ming’s face darkened. The gunshots had been too loud; they had alerted all the bugs.
