Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Conflict
Satisfied, Long Ming slung the rifle over his back, his gaze then falling on the map.
He reached out and wiped the dust off the map, revealing a simple layout of the entire mobile fortress.
Long Ming scanned the map with his wristband.
"Notification: You have unlocked the map for the Lekodo Desert."
A notification immediately popped up on his wristband.
Long Ming immediately checked the map on his wristband. He found that the map for the desert area he was in had been unlocked, allowing him to clearly see the topographical layout of the entire region.
He then began to study the newly unlocked map carefully.
Even though this was just a game, it was so realistic that Long Ming found himself growing increasingly curious about the world’s history.
He was eager to find out what had happened here in the past. ’How did those monsters come into being? Were they really the cause of the original inhabitants’ demise?’
Unfortunately, he hadn’t found any valuable clues so far.
However, Long Ming had a feeling. ’If I can just get inside the mobile fortress, I should be able to find some clues.’
BANG—
Suddenly, the sharp crack of a gunshot echoed from a distance.
Long Ming’s expression hardened, and he immediately rushed out of the metal hut.
From the sound of the gunshot, he could tell it wasn’t too far away. ’Could Gu Yi and the others be in trouble?’
....
「In a narrow alley.」
Gu Yi and Chen Wei were running for their lives.
Behind them, five players were in hot pursuit, led by none other than Zheng Bin and Cao Heng.
"Hurry, they’re catching up!"
Chen Wei shouted anxiously to Gu Yi.
"Damn it, I know!"
Gu Yi replied, looking haggard.
Just then, Zheng Bin raised the Ducap K1 single-shot rifle in his hands, aimed at the running Gu Yi, and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
"Ah!"
Chen Wei let out a pained cry and fell to the ground. Bright red blood stained the earth.
"Shit, why is the aim on this gun so bad!"
Seeing that Gu Yi hadn’t fallen, and that Chen Wei had been shot in the ass instead, Zheng Bin couldn’t help but curse.
"Damn it!"
Seeing Chen Wei get hit, Gu Yi furiously spun around, raised his Ducap K1 rifle, and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
The bullet whizzed past Zheng Bin and his men, striking the wall.
They jumped in fright, and their pursuit halted for a moment.
Gu Yi reached out to help Chen Wei up.
Clutching his butt and gritting his teeth against the pain, Chen Wei shouted at Gu Yi.
"Go! Or we’ll both die here!"
"But—!"
"No ’buts’! Just run! Don’t give them the satisfaction."
"Bastards!"
Seeing that Chen Wei was a lost cause, Gu Yi could only lay him on the ground, grit his teeth, and run on.
"Where do you think you’re going!"
Cao Heng raised his gun, aimed at the fleeing Gu Yi, and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
Gu Yi ducked his head as the bullet struck the alley wall, sending sparks flying.
His heart skipped a beat. He suddenly accelerated, sprinted to the intersection ahead, and ducked into another alley.
"Damn it, after him!"
Zheng Bin grew anxious seeing Gu Yi about to get away and gave chase with all his might.
Just then, the wounded Chen Wei reached out, grabbed Zheng Bin’s thigh, and yelled through gritted teeth.
"You’re not getting past me!"
"Fuck, die!"
Zheng Bin was pulled to a stop. Enraged, he raised his gun and fired another shot at Chen Wei’s head.
BANG—
Chen Wei’s head burst open instantly. His body dissolved into points of light, and the backpack he was wearing dropped to the ground.
But Zheng Bin and his men didn’t spare it a glance; they immediately continued the chase.
When they rounded the corner into the next alley, they found that Gu Yi had already run out of it and was in the open.
They chased after him frantically.
At that moment, Gu Yi ran into a small, circular plaza.
The plaza was empty, surrounded by buildings on all sides. In the center stood a faded bronze statue.
In a panic, he sprinted toward the path he’d taken to get there.
Soon, Zheng Bin and the others chased him out into the open. With a dark expression, Cao Heng shouted.
"He’s getting away."
"Hmph. In his dreams!"
Zheng Bin raised his gun, aimed at Gu Yi, and pulled the trigger again.
BANG—
"Argh!"
Gu Yi fell heavily to the ground. He clutched his wounded left leg, crying out in pain, and crawled toward the statue in front of him. He then took cover behind its one-meter-high, circular metal base.
Seeing Gu Yi was shot, Zheng Bin and his men ran over excitedly.
Gu Yi took a deep breath, immediately poked his head out, and fired his gun at Zheng Bin’s group.
BANG!
The bullet instantly hit the wall next to Zheng Bin, sending sparks flying.
The expressions on Zheng Bin and his men changed slightly. They quickly stopped and retreated back into the alley, not daring to rush forward. The main reason was the lack of cover in the plaza, which made them easy targets.
Although they had the numbers and could definitely take Gu Yi down, none of them wanted to die.
Zheng Bin then shouted to the wounded Gu Yi.
"Kid, you’re not getting away. Hand over the goods obediently, and we’ll let you live."
"In your dreams! You sons of bitches, I’ll kill you all sooner or later!"
As Gu Yi spoke, he ejected the shell casing to reload, only to find his chamber empty. His heart sank.
"I suggest you do this the easy way, not the hard way! If we have to catch you, you’re in for a world of pain."
Zheng Bin threatened viciously.
"Come and get me if you’ve got the guts! I won’t shoot anyone else, I’ll be aiming right for you!"
Gu Yi retorted defiantly, enduring the pain.
He was out of bullets and could only try to stall for time.
"Fuck!"
Zheng Bin was furious with Gu Yi.
"Why are we wasting our breath on him? Let’s just rush him and finish him off,"
Cao Heng said, looking at Zheng Bin with some confusion.
"Someone could easily die. Besides, did you forget about the safe?"
A greedy look appeared on Zheng Bin’s face. Even though he was a bit far away at the time, he was sure he hadn’t seen wrong—that guy had definitely gotten something good.
"You’re more thorough than I am. But this guy’s a tough bastard; he’s probably not going to cooperate."
Cao Heng instantly understood. If the guy had put the item in his safe, all this would have been for nothing.
"Then let’s just kill him. We’ll take whatever we can get."
A ruthless expression crossed Zheng Bin’s face.
"Alright."
Cao Heng and the others all raised their guns. Staying out of his line of sight, they began to creep toward Gu Yi.
Gu Yi peeked his head out for a look. When he saw Zheng Bin’s group carefully closing in on him, a look of despair washed over his face.
BANG!
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out.
Gu Yi flinched, thinking he’d been shot. But when he realized he was completely unharmed, he peeked his head out again to look.
He saw Cao Heng’s eyes wide with shock as he stiffly fell to the ground.
Zheng Bin and the others were startled and immediately looked in the direction of the gunshot.
There, standing on an extended second-floor platform to their right, was Long Ming, quickly ejecting a shell casing and reloading his single-shot rifle.
"Son of a bitch!"
Zheng Bin and his men immediately raised their guns and fired at Long Ming.
BANG, BANG—
Long Ming instantly pulled back, retreating into a blind spot.
Bullets slammed into the wall and the metal platform, sending sparks flying.
When he peeked his head out again, more bullets flew his way.
PING! PING—
Long Ming was completely suppressed.
"Damn it! Sharu, you stay here and keep an eye on him. Sun Wu, Wu Kang, you two are with me!"
Unable to hit Long Ming, Zheng Bin ordered Sharu to stay behind while he, Sun Wu, and Wu Kang went after Long Ming.
Seeing Zheng Bin’s group coming after him, Long Ming immediately turned and ran.
After running for a distance along the extended second-floor platform, he came to a fork.
He didn’t run in the direction where Gu Yi had fallen, but chose the opposite path to avoid leading the enemy to him.
"You son of a bitch, stop running if you have any balls!"
Seeing Long Ming trying to escape, Zheng Bin and his men chased desperately from below.
Long Ming immediately crouched low, using blind spots and the dense cluster of buildings as cover while he ran along the extended platform.
