Chapter 405: The Siege of Seoul

[Seoul.]

Once the glowing, technological heart of Korean, Seoul was now a scarred fortress, a desperate bastion of humanity against the endless tide of the apocalypse. High barricades of reinforced concrete and enchanted steel surrounded the surviving districts, while the earth beyond the walls was permanently scorched black.

BOOOOM!!!

A catastrophic wave of explosion smashed right into the ground, the concussive blast sending the humanoid monsters backward to the ground. These creatures, twisted parodies of humanity with grey, scaled skin and hollow, hungry eyes, screeched as the artillery rained upon them.

"Keep firing!!!" A man yelled, throwing his hand into the air, his voice cutting through the deafening roar of war.

"Yes!! We already cleared the monsters in the city! If we don’t hold our ground, they will invade again!!"

The soldiers on the barricades responded, their faces pale but filled with desperate resolve. They knew the price of failure; the city behind them held their families.

A man leaped down the towering defense wall with a huge sledgehammer, landing heavily on the ground with the force of a meteor. This was the Commander.

"We kill every single one of them!!" He yelled, and shot forward, his eyes burning with the duty to protect his home.

"Help the commander!!"

Three more young fighters leaped down the wall, and charged towards the monsters.

Skills, explosion, and bullets flew into the air, smashing heavily on the monsters, wiping out all the Frontline in a blinding display of humanity’s fighting spirit.

"AHHHHHHHH!!"

The Commander yelled, and shot forward, channeling dense spirit energy into his weapon, smashing his hammer heavily on the ground.

BOOOOM!!!

The destruction sent out a huge nerve waves, disrupting the energy of the beasts, which smashed into the monsters, killing hundreds in a single, devastating sweep.

"The Commander is still the strongest!" A lady yelled, swinging her gleaming sword with elegant, practiced precision, and easily cutting the heads of the monsters. She had trained her whole life for fencing, a skill that now kept her alive in this hellscape.

"Yes!! But we still have to assist!!" A man added, manipulating the temperature around him, sending fireballs out of thin air, burning huge waves of monsters into screaming ash.

"This is our home! No matter what! We will protect it!" Another girl added, ascending into the air. She closed her eyes, tapping into her energy, and the next lightning bolts shot out from her body, smashing heavily on the monsters’ lines with the wrath of a storm deity.

"We are the four protectors of Korean!! We must stop these monsters!!" The Commander yelled at them, staring at the monsters, which got back their senses from his attack, their regenerative abilities kicking in, and lunged forward again.

"Commander! What about the Leader?!" The guy yelled, leaping backward with incredible agility. While on midair, he sent more fireballs towards the monsters, his mind racing. The ’Leader’ was their absolute pillar, the mysterious figure who had granted them these supreme powers.

"The Leader will be here soon! Our Job is to guard the entrance!" The Commander yelled, ruthlessly smashing the head of a mutant lion with his hammer.

"Protectors!!"

The Mage lady looked over her shoulder at the one screaming, staring at the man with a military-grade communication phone.

"What happened?!" She asked, turning her gaze back to the monsters, sending more waves of blue lightning bolts to hold the line.

"It’s the monsters!! They’re attacking from the Han River!!" He yelled, panic bleeding into his voice. The Han River was the vital water source and the most vulnerable tactical chokepoint of the capital. If it fell, Seoul fell.

"What?!!"

The four exclaimed in shock, staring at the man.

GRAAAAA!!

They turned to the monsters, feeling a massive spike in spatial pressure, seeing as the sky tore opened, and a gigantic, abyssal dragon flew out from it. Its scales were as black as the void, and its sheer size cast a terrifying shadow over the battlefield.

GRAAAAAA!!

It roared, shaking the very foundations of the city, and without even a second of hesitation, it opened its massive, glowing mouth, and shot out massive wave of superheated flames towards them.

"Shit!!"

The fire guy landed on his feet, and shot forward, heading right towards the apocalyptic fire. Deep down, he always felt he had something to prove. He wasn’t naturally gifted; his power was a gift from the Leader, and he was determined to show he was worthy of it.

"Watch out! Tang Lu!!!" The swordswoman yelled at him in genuine shock, her usual cool facade breaking as Tang Lu stopped right in front of the dragon flames and stretched both his hands forward.

"You won’t get past us!!" He yelled, gritting his teeth as the heat threatened to melt his skin.

BOOOOM!!!

The dragon flames smashed right into him, pushing him backward, the sheer force forcing his legs digging deep lines on the ground.

"You aren’t getting past us!!" He screamed again, as his sleeves burn off, turning to ash under the dragon’s breath.

"Tang Lu! Get out from there!!" The Commander screamed at him, recognizing the suicidal nature of standing before a Dragon.

"No!! Go and defend the Han River!! If the monsters break through the defense, millions of lives will be lost! Leave this to me!!" Tang Lu yelled at them, his eyes glowing with an unnatural, fiery light.

"Are you stupid?!! There are more than tens of thousands of monsters here, and a 30 meters tall dragon! You can’t win!!" The Mage yelled at him, calculating the impossible odds.

"Hehehe! You don’t know that yet!"

He increased his spirit energy, pushing his core beyond its limits, and before everyone’s stunned gazes, his body acted as a furnace, and he absorbed all the dragon flames right into his own veins.

".....?!"

The Dragon abruptly stopped its attack, staring at the Human, a bit stunned by the paradox of a mortal consuming its absolute fire.

"You see that?" Tang Lu clenched his fists, as highly condensed, pure flames appeared around it, vibrating with power.

"The Leader gave me a lot of skills and weapons... I am not scared of these monsters! Not to mention the strongest here is only Lv300." He said, an arrogant, fearless smirk on his face.

The three looked at one another, torn between staying to help their reckless brother-in-arms and saving the millions behind them. The Commander sighed, making the hard, tactical choice:

"Alright then!! We are heading to the Han River!!" He said, and shot into the air, flying away to secure the city’s lifeline.

"Be careful Tang Lu!" The Mage yelled, and turned to the man, who reported the news:

"Keep supporting Tang Lu with our firepower! We will head to Han River!" She said, and turned into pure blue lighting, shooting into the sky, flying away with a crack of thunder.

"Ahh! You better not die on us!! Tang Lu!!" The swordswoman said, irritated to mask her deep concern for him.

"Don’t worry, nothing will happen to me." Tang Lu flashed her a confident, reassuring smile.

"Away so cheeky..." She said softly, and flew into the air, flying away to join the others.

"Okay you guys!" Tang Lu cracked his knuckles, rolling his neck as the adrenaline pumped through his system, and the next moment, the flames on his fists spread all over his body, burning his ruined clothes away.

"Let’s have a good fight!!"

He raised his hand high above his head, drawing upon every ounce of energy in his surroundings, and the next moment, a gigantic sun, made of pure, highly compressed fire appeared, radiating an unbearable heat:

"Legendary skill! Sun descend!!!" He yelled, unleashing the ultimate technique he had mastered.

".....?!"

All the encroaching monsters, and the surviving fighters on the wall were all completely dumbfounded, staring blindly at the gigantic fireball, which completely blocked the natural sun in the sky.

"Die!!!!"

BOOOOM!!!

The attack smashed right at the absolute center of the monsters, detonating with the force of a tactical nuke, killing thousands of them in a blinding flash of white heat. Without giving them a single, fleeting chance to recover, Tang Lu shot forward through the shockwave, his speed enhanced by the fire, appearing directly in front of the Dragon in a second.

".....?!"

Before the ancient Beast could even think to raise its claws, he punched it right in its face with the condensed force of a collapsing star.

BAM!!!

The whole armored head of the dragon exploded like a nuclear explosion, scales and bone vaporizing instantly. Its massive, headless dead body falling heavily to the scorched earth.

"Is that all?!!" Tang Lu yelled, as massive, uncontrollable waves of fire burst out from his body, washing over the battlefield and burning all the remaining monsters below, turning them all into fine, grey ashes.

In less than ten minutes, he alone, utilizing the absolute peak of human potential and the Leader’s blessings, wiped out tens of thousands of monsters.

"....?!"

"So powerful?"

"The Protectors are truly the strongest."

"Wow!"

The exhausted fighters on the wall muttered amongst themselves in profound reverence and awe, as Tang Lu gently landed on the blackened soil of ash, and death, his breathing slightly ragged but his spirit victorious.

"Hehehe... I thought there won’t be anyone worthy of my attention."

".....??!"

Tang Lu and everyone on the barricades frowned deeply, a cold dread washing over them as they turned to the source of the sinister owner of the voice. The air pressure suddenly spiked to suffocating levels. They watched in absolute disbelief, as a massive, clawed hand effortlessly tore right through the spatial fabric of space itself, and casually pulled the dimensional rift apart like a simple slide door.

"...?!!"

They walked as a six feet tall humanoid monster casually walked out from the void. It possessed a terrifying, commanding presence; it has the fierce, maned head of a Lion, and the muscular, armored body of a human, radiating an aura that completely dwarfed the dead dragon.

"Hehehehe! Human, let’s have a good fight!" The Lion said, its voice rumbling with ancient power, casually placing its huge, cursed broadsword on its broad shoulder.

"I hope you entertain me, don’t die too quick." It added, staring at Tang Lu like a predator eyeing a particularly interesting meal.
