Chapter 37: Malo Talks
We both sat outside the convenience store. Malo was eating donuts and drinking a shake while I was busy eating a burger with fries and coke. I was going to get a donut just like Malo, but my eyes caught the burger and I started craving it instead.
The bench under us creaked a little each time Malo shifted his weight. The night air carried the smell of fried food and sugar from the store behind us.
My eyes stayed on the road, watching every car and bike passing by. Headlights swept across the street and disappeared again. Tires rolled past. Engines hummed.
I don’t know why, but my mind has been on Kiara.
Thinking about it.
Regretting letting myself give in to my heat and sleeping with someone’s property.
That’s so fucking shameful.
I bit into my burger. The bread pressed under my fingers. I chewed slowly and swallowed, staring at the road like it had answers.
"I can’t believe I am a fucking side dish. I let that bitch eat me like some fucking main dish when all along I have been a side dish," I let out.
The words slipped out of me before I even thought about them.
I never for ones thought of my self as a dish, in the first. But.... The fuck!
"I blame my heat. My fucking heat can’t control itself around her..."
Malo was licking sugar off his fingers. He shrugged and wiped his hand on a napkin.
"Well, there is a saying that we are slaves to our heat. It controls us and makes us do what it commands. That’s why you need pills to fight back."
I glanced at him.
"You take pills for your heat?" I asked.
He nodded like it was the most normal thing in the world.
"Yes I do. Everybody does too. Even the Alphas take pills for their rut. There is one that calms them down and one that brings up the rut."
I took another bite, chewing slowly while thinking about it.
"Just like the crescent pill you gave me that night."
"Yes, that one," he said quickly.
Then he paused. His chewing slowed.
He turned his head toward me like he had just realized something he should not have said.
I stopped chewing.
"So you fucking set me up with Princess," I said.
Malo said nothing.
He lifted his head and looked up at the sky like the clouds were suddenly very interesting.
My jaw tightened.
I swallowed the food in my mouth slowly.
I can’t believe it.
I thought he said the pills bring the moon to you. That was a fucking lie.
I knew it, that was a fucking heat pill.
My fingers tightened around the burger wrapper.
Was this his plan.
Or was it his fucking boss?
"Hey, yo..." I voiced out.
Malo suddenly stood up. The bench shifted when his weight left it.
He grabbed his donut box and crutch like he had somewhere important to be.
"I guess I have to go home now. Good night, Faye. See you at school tomorrow..."
I stared at him for half a second.
Then I dropped my burger on the bench and stood up.
Before he could take a step, I grabbed him by the back of his neck. My fingers dug into the fabric of his shirt.
His crutch slipped from under his arm.
I grabbed it and threw it to the ground. The metal hit the pavement with a loud clatter.
"Was this all Princess? Did she tell you to fucking give me that pill?"
That was my only thought.
Princess was the one giving him pills to distribute in the first place.
If he fucking said yes then I was fucking right.
She took advantage of me.
"I don’t know what you are talking about. Let go of my neck," he cried.
His hands grabbed my wrist, trying to pull it away.
"Not until you tell me the whole truth. Did you give me the pill on purpose? Was it Princess’s idea? Luring me to her room?"
"I don’t know," he said.
His voice shook.
I was about to press further when a few people passed by.
Footsteps. Voices.
One of them was coming out from the convenience store. I paused, still holding him. For a second we stayed frozen like that.
Then I relaxed my grip a little.
I paused what I was doing and smiled at the faces staring as they passed by.
"Don’t worry he is my little brother. We are just having a kindly sibling conversation. Nothing to see here," I said.
A couple of them looked at us again before walking away.
I bent down, picked up the crutches and handed them back to him.
"We are going somewhere private to have this conversation. I am not letting you go until I get the answers," I muttered.
I grabbed his arm and started dragging him in a way that would not cause suspicion.
"Wait, my shake, and your burger," he called out.
"Fucking let’s go."
"You can’t just waste food, you know."
I turned around, grabbed his shake and quickly gulped it down. The cold liquid ran down my throat.
Then I emptied my coke to save space.
I picked up the burger with one hand while holding him with the other.
He kept hobbling beside me, trying to keep up.
We walked until the lights from the store disappeared behind us.
We were in a nearby wood. There was no one around.
Which was fine by me.
Because if my suspicions were confirmed, I swear I would bury him and then that fucking bitch of a Princess next.
I would skin her alive before burying her. My jaw clenched just thinking about it.
"Spill everything right now if you don’t want that donut to be your last," I said, leaning on one of the trees.
Malo slowly lowered himself to the ground.
He held his last donut tightly like his life depended on it.
His fingers squeezed the paper bag around it.
I had already finished eating my burger before we got here.
The anger in me made me devour it.
"I don’t know anything, okay?" he blurted.
His voice cracked.
"Princess did not give me the pill that night. She was with Beam in the VIP section. I was done with my work so I went to meet them. I stood outside calling Princess out but she didn’t reply. Then Beam came out instead."
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
"She did not let me talk to Princess. She told me Princess had one more task for me and that my pay was going to be double. Then Beam gave me the pill. She said it’s new. Leo wants to know how it works. I should find some random omega to give it to," he said.
My eyes narrowed.
"So I am the fucking random omega you had to give it to. You just couldn’t find anyone else."
"You were the only omega in the club, that night. I had no choice. I wanted the money," he cried out.
"So Princess was involved?"
"I don’t know. Something was off about her that night. Beam was the one in charge. Even the next day when I got paid, Princess didn’t double it. Beam paid me from her own account."
He finished talking and quickly shoved the donut into his mouth.
He chewed fast.
Like he thought someone might take it away.
I watched him quietly.
So something is fishy about this.
Why do I get the feeling that Beam was trying to do something?
I pushed myself off the tree.
She is always the one close to Princess, like some knight in shining armor.
Always boasting about who she was, without saying who she was.
And also sleeping with Kiara.
Well, that friend doesn’t seem like a friend.
But all this crap is not my problem.
The only problem I have is why me.
She fucking messed with the wrong Omega.
"Hey, what the fuck do you know about that Beam?" I asked.
Just as he was about to talk, we heard screaming.
Someone was in danger.
