Chapter 203: Faye Wants To Investigate

"So any info about the rider?" I asked Malo as we packed our books inside our bags. The final bell rang, the sharp sound echoing through the room, so school was over for the day. My fingers were fumbling with the zippers of my backpack, my mind still stuck on that stretch of road and the blood that wasn’t there anymore.

"No, nothing... except for the motorcycle being missing and the scene being clean. Like professionally clean," Malo said. He threw his bag over his shoulder, his face looking worn out.

"The GPS hasn’t mentioned anything about it either, so one can say it never happened... and if it did happen, you two and the Trios were the only witnesses. No local reports, no police scanners, nothing," Sasha added. She was leaning against a desk, tapping her phone against her chin with a thoughtful look.

"We need to find out what happened to the body. I need to clear myself and prove to the Trios I had nothing to do with the missing body. Expecially Kiara..." I said. The weight of their stares from the night before was still pressing on my chest.

"Princess said she doesn’t suspect you, so there’s no clearing to be done. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill," Malo said lazily, packing his backpack. He looked like he just wanted to go home and sleep for a week.

Princess might have said that, but she had the thought. I saw it in the way she paused before answering me. Kiara and Beam still believed I was involved, and even Malo had thought of it for a split second. I could see it in the way he wouldn’t meet my eyes when we first got back to the club. I wanted to know what we were dealing with and shove it in the girls’ faces that I had nothing to do with it. I wanted to see the look on Kiara’s face when I proved her wrong.

"Let’s investigate, find anything about that night. Check the security cameras or talk to the shops nearby," I said, my voice rising with a bit of excitement. I needed to move, to do something other than sit and wait for the pups to arrive.

"The Trios are not even worried about that anymore. I bet right now they are thinking about how much they are going to make tonight after the race. They’ve moved on to the next hustle," Malo said. We were now in the hallway, the space crowded with students rushing toward the exits.

I stood in front of them, blocking their path.

"Come on guys, let’s do something. When was the last time we all hung out together as a group? Not just for the election or for the club, but for us. Let’s have a little bit of an adventure," I said, looking from Malo to Sasha.

"Adventure you say? We have a lot of things on our plates other than figuring out how some body disappeared without any footprints at a crime scene. I have a campaign to run, and preparing to welcome your other beta " Sasha said, her voice flat. She wasn’t having any interest in my ghost hunt. I looked at Malo, hoping for a better response.

"I’d rather unpause our Morphs search than research some mysterious rider who looks like the next Yuki in our lives."

Yep, Malo now calls every bad guy or villain in our obstacles Yuki. Not surprised about it, we just accepted to call every villain that name because it fit so well. It was our own little inside joke, a way to deal with the constant mess our lives had become.

I don’t have a fucking problem with it, but I really want to know what happened to the body... not just to prove myself but to calm myself. The curiosity was like an itch I couldn’t reach. With Princess’s friends thinking I frankenstein that girl, it got to my mind, making me curious and wanting to prove I wasn’t behind it.

Searching for sea creatures with super abilities was on pause until after the pups arrived. It was something we wished to do as a group, make research, find the sea creatures, sell them, and get paid... still in secret. It’s like getting rich secretly because the buyers want it hidden, and they pay a lot for that kind of privacy. Malo and I have been thinking of a business idea to start, something legitimate on the surface, so when we go over our limits in our bank accounts, we can use the business as a reason for how we got rich. We didn’t want the Kings family or the authorities asking questions about where all the extra cash was coming from.

Malo and Sasha didn’t want to dig in. Malo was scared of getting to know the danger, his survival instinct kicking in. Sasha was just not looking for trouble, her mind already focused on the next school week. If I had pressed further on her, she would have agreed, because I can. But I don’t want it to look like I was controlling her. Just because she happens to be my Beta doesn’t mean I have to control her decisions or force her into things she doesn’t want to do. The signs of that power are there, the invisible tug between us, but I always restrict myself. I see her as a friend instead of some fucking army, as Yuki called it. I wanted a real connection, not a forced one.

So I planned on testing that kind of power with Peamah when he gets free from jail. He was already a mess, so I didn’t feel as bad about experimenting on him. I will get to know to what extent I can make the guy do my bidding... not evil ones duh, just curiosity.

After Sasha entered Haley’s car so Haley could drop her off at home, the car peeling away with a wave from the window, while Malo had to take care of his new baby sister, whose name is Charlie Griffin by the way. He had to be home for her before coming to the club this evening since it’s Friday and things always get busy. I stood on the sidewalk for a moment, feeling the sun on my face, before I started walking. Today I get to resume my work.
