Chapter 185: Everyone, Meet The Girl Who Got Me Pregnant
So we were downstairs in the living room. The air felt heavy, like the moments right before a storm breaks over the mountain. Princess was still upstairs in my room arranging and unpacking. The room had been oddly silent since my friends saw me. Not all were present, but the ones who heard of my return were, crowded into the small space like they were trying to solve a puzzle that didn’t have enough pieces.
I sat down on one of the couches, the springs creaking under my new weight. They all seemed to fit into the three-seater opposite me, a wall of confused faces and narrowing eyes. They were all staring at me, focused on the middle of my body, their silence louder than a shout.
Oh great... I forgot about the fact that they needed to be filled in before they started saying words. I could see the gears turning in Alex’s head, and I knew it was only a matter of seconds. I was about to do some explaining, but someone got to it first.
"See, I was right, I told you... Faye has gotten fat, she is even fatter than the last time Dave and I saw her in Oakland..." Katie spat out. She crossed her arms, leaning back with a smug look like she’d won a bet.
"She is not fat... She is... she is... she is..." Alex said, his voice trailing off as he waved his hands in front of him, trying to find a proper word that wouldn’t get him punched.
"Pregnant." Ruger helped him out, his voice flat and direct.
"Yes, that... she is that." Alex said, nodding fast like a weight had been lifted from his chest. He leaned forward, his eyes wide. "Yo Faye, how did you get that?" He said, still looking confused, like I’d suddenly grown a second head instead of a baby bump.
"Isn’t it obvious? It’s not like some magical fairy appeared to her and boom, she became that..." Rolex said, rolling his eyes. He happens to be Alex’s twin brother, but he usually carried about ten percent more common sense.
"We have a lot of questions... like why you left Redwood and didn’t inform us, why Yuki’s stuff is out your window, but right now our minds have just one question..." Alex said, pointing a finger toward my stomach again.
"Okay guys, chill... you all are acting like being pregnant is a sin or something..." I said, shifting uncomfortably. I felt the heat rising in my cheeks, judging by the way they were all coming at me like a pack of hungry wolves.
"It’s not about that... I mean we all know what your type of deal is... so you getting pregnant is something that looks more like a myth than an actual fact...." Rolex said, eyes still narrowing down to my tummy, searching for some kind of trick.
"Come on guys... I happen to be pregnant, deal with that... are there any other questions that don’t have to do with me being pregnant?" I said, wanting to escape this kind of interrogation. I reached for a throw pillow and hugged it, trying to create a barrier between me and their staring eyes.
"Who is the loser...?" Alex said, puffing out his chest and acting like some older brother. He cracked his knuckles, the sound sharp in the quiet room.
"Yes, tell us who is the dude?" Ruger added, his face darkening.
They just wouldn’t let this go. They were stuck on the who and the how, and I could feel my patience thinning out.
"What do you want to do, beat them up or what?" I said, now annoyed. I felt a kick from inside, like the pups were agreeing with my frustration.
"Yes... we are going to beat his stupid ass, break his neck and drown him in cold water... after that we will ask him what exactly he told you to get you laid... because the Faye I know is so tough that no boys here in Redwood get to go beyond friendship...." Alex said. He stood up, pacing the small rug in front of the coffee table.
"Again, chill... I love this person and I need you all to not act like this, okay." I warned them. My heart started to race because I knew any moment now Princess would be coming down, and the last thing I needed was a brawl in Guru’s living room. Also Princess will be the one doing the trashing.
"Faye is in love... that is also a new change..." Katie said, her voice dripping with disbelief.
"In love! What about my sister? You are supposed to be endgame... she is already saving up for dowry. That girl is working so hard to be with you..." Ruger voiced out, throwing his hands up in the air.
Really, still on that. My head throbbed. I told him multiple times that I have no interest in his sister. Even if we once shared a kiss, only once, in a stupid truth-or-dare game a year ago. After that day, Ruger started calling me his sister-in-law and wouldn’t let the dream die.
"Ruger, I have told you on several occasions that I am not going to end up with Shuga... so stop saying that." I felt the sweat on my palms as I gripped the pillow tighter.
"Come on, she is going to be heartbroken that some guy stole your heart, and she is going to kill him." He said, sounding genuinely worried for the mysterious guy’s life.
"I don’t think so... and I want you all to know that the person I am in love with is not some random..." I said, my voice trailing off as the floorboards creaked above. The boys’ eyes drifted to the stairs, their expressions shifting from anger to complete awe in an instant.
"That’s a beauty up there..." Alex muttered, his jaw practically hitting the floor.
"More like an angel... she looks like someone scraped out of a fairytale book..." Rolex added, his eyes glazed over.
"That’s one good-looking sweet-pie..." Ruger said, his aggressive stance vanishing as he straightened his shirt.
Immediately the boys stood up, eyes filled with lust. I turned to look at Princess coming down from the staircase. Her ponytail was now loose, her thick hair falling down over her shoulders in dark waves. I swallowed hard, looking at her. She moved with that effortless Alpha grace, her eyes cool and confident. I also couldn’t look away as she walked down, the light from the hallway catching the sharp lines of her face.
Ruger was the first to walk to her, still carrying that lustful look. The boys completely forgot about me the moment they saw Princess, their previous interrogation abandoned like yesterday’s trash.
Katie leaned in close, her breath hot against my ear, and whispered to me:
"Isn’t that the Alpha girl from the club, the one you said is not your type?"
I placed my finger on my lips, telling her to be quiet. I didn’t want her bringing that up now, not when things were already this weird.
"Hello mi lady, the name is Ruger Kane. I have a plot with 20 sheep, 2 cows, and 13 hens. I’m hardworking. I will make sure I put food on the table every single day... all you have to say is yes..." Ruger said, his voice dropping into the most ridiculous Casanova growl I’d ever heard. He used to do that to every new girl in town, which I usually didn’t care about, but right now, that is my bae he is flirting with and I felt a growl starting in the back of my own throat.
I stood up from the couch, my knees feeling a bit shaky, wanting to tell him to stop his act before Princess decided to show him why she was an Alpha.
"I don’t think you can feed someone like me, I am too demanding... and also I am not into boys." Princess said, her voice smooth and cold. She didn’t even slow down her pace as she reached the bottom step.
The moment Princess said that, the two boys quickly sat back down like they’d been shocked. They didn’t want to waste time on someone who was not in their league or their interest... but Ruger was stubborn, he wasn’t backing down that easily.
"My sister is about to be heartbroken so.. Shuga Kane, a very brilliant beautiful girl, she also has a plot with 50 sheep..." he started, trying to pivot to his sister.
"I have a girlfriend and I am not searching for another one." Princess cut him off, saving his breath. She stepped past him, her eyes finding mine and softening instantly.
Princess walked up to me, wrapping her hands around my waist and pulling me back against her chest. The heat from her body was a relief. "This is my girlfriend... Faye Grande." She announced to the room, her voice echoing off the walls.
"What!" they all said in unison, their heads snapping back and forth between us like they were watching a tennis match.
"Faye, how are you able to bag a beautiful angel while pregnant...?" Rolex shot at me, his face a mask of pure shock and a little bit of envy.
God damn it, these people need to stop this embarrassment... I felt the heat in my face reach a breaking point.
"Everyone, meet the girl who got me pregnant..." I said, my voice loud enough to silence Ruger’s next attempt at a sales pitch.
Immediately they all stared at Princess, looking at her from head to toe over and over again. They were trying to process the information, but their brains were clearly lagging. Ruger was the most obvious, he was staring at her chest, then her thighs, looking and searching for something else, his eyebrows knit together in total confusion.
"She does not have a dick, so stop with the awkward staring... she happens to be an Alpha..." I shot at them, my voice sharp. I pulled Princess’s arms tighter around me, marking my territory.
"So... it still doesn’t explain how it’s possible for her to get you pregnant..." Katie said, ever the skeptic. She squinted at Princess, looking for the biological loophole.
"Now I am beginning to wonder what kind of biology your school has been teaching here in Redwood..." Princess muttered, her chest vibrating against my back as she gave a small, amused huff.
With that one remark, my friends tried to compose themselves. The realization seemed to finally sink in, and they began to introduce themselves one by one, though they still looked a bit dazed. Princess tried her best to accommodate them, shaking hands and offering short nods, maintaining her composure even after all the awkwardness they’d just put us through.
