Chapter 152: Chapter 121: A Large Amount? No Problem, Let Me Broaden My Horizons
The Northeast’s Ice City Airport!
The business jet tarmac!
Su Chen had learned his lesson from previous trips. Before setting out, he’d had Jiang Hui book him into Ice City’s most luxurious hotel—the Ritz-Carlton.
As a top-tier five-star hotel, the Ritz-Carlton naturally included airport pickup service.
The moment he stepped off the plane, a gust of cold wind hit his face, and Su Chen couldn’t help but shiver.
"The weather in the Northeast really is much colder than in the Imperial Capital."
This time, Su Chen had only brought Chen Fei with him to the Northeast. As for Old Jiang... considering his age, it was better to let him rest at home for a few days during this harsh winter.
If he came out to play in the snow and took a tumble, a moment of carelessness could land him in the hospital for half a month. It just wasn’t worth the risk.
"Where’s the car?" The moment he got off the plane, Su Chen noticed that aside from his own jet, there wasn’t a single vehicle in sight—not the hotel pickup car, not even an airport shuttle.
"Sir, why don’t you wait on the plane for a bit? I’ll call the hotel right away!"
Chen Fei grumbled internally. ’The Ritz-Carlton is supposed to be one of the top hotels in the world, so how can they fail at something as basic as being on time?’
After Su Chen was back on the plane, Chen Fei immediately pulled out his phone and dialed the hotel.
Just as the call connected, Chen Fei spotted two Mercedes S-Class sedans appearing in the distance.
A moment later, the two Mercedes pulled to a smooth stop in front of Chen Fei. At the same time, the call he had just made was finally answered.
Hearing the staff member’s query on the other end, Chen Fei muttered, "It’s fine," and hung up.
A woman in her late twenties, dressed in a black wool coat with her beautiful long hair tied back in a ponytail, stepped out of the car and hurried over to Chen Fei.
"I’m so sorry, Mr. Su, for making you wait—"
Before she could finish, Chen Fei raised a hand to stop her.
"I’m not Mr. Su. I’m his bodyguard." After speaking, Chen Fei glanced at his watch and added in an icy tone, "It’s 11:15, almost ten minutes past the agreed-upon time..."
"Is this the standard of service at the Ritz-Carlton?"
The woman’s face turned pale, and she quickly explained, "Sir, I am terribly sorry. There was a car accident on the way here due to the snow, which caused a massive traffic jam. That’s why we’re late!"
Chen Fei was about to say more when Su Chen’s voice came from behind him. "We’ll let it slide since there was a reason, but the service at your Ritz-Carlton still has room for improvement."
"You don’t even notify your client when something like this happens. If I didn’t have a private jet to shelter me from the elements, would I have been expected to stand here waiting for you on this bone-chilling tarmac?"
Su Chen’s voice was soft, but to the woman’s ears, it landed like a clap of thunder.
’A private jet? What the hell? I’m just out on a simple pickup, and I run into a big shot like this?’ The woman was on the verge of a breakdown.
If she hadn’t dealt with numerous high-profile clients and seen her fair share of the world, Su Chen’s words would have... her legs would have probably given out, sending her crumbling to the ground.
She took a few deep breaths to calm the panic in her heart, then forced a smile. "Mr. Su, welcome to Ice City!"
"My name is Wang Shasha, your personal butler. I will be at your service for any needs you may have over the next few days."
Su Chen didn’t press her any further. A simple warning was enough of a lesson, hopefully preventing any more trouble in the coming days.
After ushering Su Chen into the front car, Wang Shasha had the hotel security staff who had come with her move the luggage into the vehicle.
Chen Fei, meanwhile, joined the security staff in the Mercedes behind them.
For this trip to Ice City, Su Chen and Chen Fei had brought a whopping four large suitcases.
It couldn’t be helped. Not only was the weather in Ice City cold, but it was also prone to sudden flurries. Their clothes would inevitably get damp and dirty while they were out, so to be on the safe side, Su Chen had packed seven full sets of winter clothes.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Ice City was located in the city’s core CBD, right on the banks of the Songhua River. Next to the hotel was the famous Ice and Snow World.
The vehicles slowly drove away from the business jet tarmac.
It was Su Chen’s first time in a Mercedes S-Class sedan. He found it to be a significant step down from his own car.
"Other top-tier five-star hotels use a Rolls-Royce for their airport pickups. Why the creative choice to use a Mercedes at the Ritz-Carlton?" Su Chen asked curiously.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Wang Shasha heard his question and quickly turned to explain, "Mr. Su, it’s like this: The Ritz-Carlton Hotel has a ten-year strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz. In China, with the exception of Xiangjiang and Macau, all of our hotels use the Mercedes S600 for presidential suite pickups. Guests in other rooms get anything from an E-Class to an S-Class!"
"Oh," Su Chen said, now understanding. He didn’t ask any more questions, focusing instead on the scenery outside the window.
After entering the city proper, Su Chen discovered that Ice City was surprisingly desolate. It lacked the congestion typical of other tourist cities. Not only were there few cars on the road, but the pedestrians were also few and far between.
"Tourism in Ice City seems pretty bleak right now!"
"It is. Every winter, the tourism department racks its brain trying to promote Ice City’s attractions—Ice and Snow World, the ice sculptures, Dragon Tower, Sofia Church, Central Street, and so many other fun places. But not many people come. Maybe the promotion just isn’t effective!"
