Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Chloe Sinclair Fell Asleep Halfway Through the Experiment

Chloe Sinclair’s mind raced, her pen moving nonstop. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

In a mere six hours, she had already filled half her draft notebook.

In her past life, she had been researching the three-dimensional quantum Hall effect just before her death, but she had never fully grasped it.

She had continued her research even after being reborn.

The three-dimensional quantum Hall effect had become a hot topic among scientists in recent years.

It was also one of the most important scientific discoveries in the field of condensed matter physics since the 20th century.

To date, four Nobel Prizes had been awarded for work related to the quantum Hall effect, a testament to its status in the world of Physics.

However, very few scientists had made any further breakthroughs.

The three-dimensional version was still the stuff of legend.

Currently, scientists were still stuck in two-dimensional systems. No one would manage to make the leap into three-dimensional systems for another ten years.

It was thanks to her God of Study System that she had a deeper understanding of Physics, which made her realize that humanity’s current knowledge was merely the tip of the iceberg.

There was still a long way to go to truly advance the nation’s development.

But it was precisely because of this cheat-like ability that her rebirth had blessed her with a wealth of inspiration regarding the three-dimensional quantum Hall effect.

However, without access to a laboratory, she had no way of conducting the necessary experiments.

Before she knew it, Chloe had been experimenting continuously for twelve hours without a single breakthrough.

Having worked through the night without rest, Chloe looked exhausted.

She sat in her chair, lost in thought.

’My calculations and data are obviously correct, so what’s going wrong?’

The more Chloe thought about it, the heavier her head became. Eventually, she simply laid her head down on the desk and fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sutton, who was monitoring the contestants’ progress, was sweating bullets. "What is going on? The other contestants are already halfway done, but Chloe Sinclair still doesn’t seem to have a single lead!"

If the rules didn’t forbid it, everyone would have thought Mr. Sutton was dying to jump in and help Chloe with her experiment himself.

Howard Thorne saw his distress and offered some placid words of comfort. "Mr. Sutton, she chose the three-dimensional quantum Hall effect, so I imagine she must be confident. I don’t see what you’re so worried about."

These words from Howard Thorne weren’t much of a comfort; they were more like adding fuel to the fire.

Seeing the gloating look in his rival’s eyes, Mr. Sutton snorted. "Hmph. Your turn to worry will come soon enough."

Chloe slept until there were only three hours left before the experiment’s deadline.

She seemed surprised that she had slept for so long and couldn’t help but feel a pang of annoyance.

But there was nothing for it. She rubbed her face and got back to her experiment.

Suddenly, her gaze fell upon the results she had left on her desk before falling asleep.

’Is this the metal-insulator transition on ZrTe5?’

Chloe’s eyes suddenly lit up. She finally understood exactly where her experiment had gone wrong.

To suddenly find a breakthrough at this stage was a delightful surprise for Chloe.

Chloe reran the data through her experiment several times, and the results were exactly what she had anticipated.

This pleasant surprise came so suddenly that Chloe patted her head. ’How did I not think of this before?’

Actually, the principle was quite simple. Charged particles are deflected by the Lorentz force, causing the current to deflect as well. If applied perpendicular to a semiconductor, the charge carriers do the same. Once equilibrium is reached, the charge carriers no longer deflect.

A smile tugged at the corner of Chloe’s lips. She glanced at the time, opened her computer, and began to formally write her paper.

At that moment, however, the supervising mentors were completely dumbfounded.

They had assumed Chloe was about to give up. They never expected her to wake up with only three hours left.

Then, she had launched into a frenzy of experimentation.

But before they could see any conclusive results, she had already started writing her research report!
