Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Yuna Rhodes’s Panic
「The Rhodes Residence」
Yuna Rhodes had been preoccupied all day at school. She kept zoning out in class, and as soon as school was over, she rushed home without stopping and shut herself in her room.
Mr. Rhodes was already displeased with his daughter because of the banquet the other day, so he didn’t bother her.
Seeing that Mr. Rhodes didn’t ask what was wrong, Yuna Rhodes breathed a sigh of relief. She turned on her computer, looked at her school forum account, and, without a moment’s hesitation, deleted it.
"Chloe Sinclair, don’t blame me. If you have to blame someone, blame yourself."
Yuna Rhodes sat at her desk, staring at the blank computer screen and muttering to herself.
"You have a father and brother who love you, but I have nothing. I can’t let myself be ruined. I absolutely can’t..."
The more she spoke, the more panicked Yuna Rhodes became. She shut down the computer with trembling hands, and her legs gave out as she tried to stand up.
She was tormented all night, waking up startled again and again. When she got up the next day, her face was pale, and her eyes were rimmed with dark circles.
She startled Mr. Rhodes when she came downstairs.
"What were you doing last night?!"
Yuna Rhodes was already exhausted, and the sudden shout scared her out of her wits. Her chopsticks fell onto the table with a CLATTER.
Mr. Rhodes’s brow furrowed deeply, a flicker of suspicion in his eyes. "Did you get into some kind of trouble?"
Yuna Rhodes’s heart sank. A flash of panic crossed her eyes, and she quickly lowered her head, mumbling, "No."
"Really?"
Mr. Rhodes clearly didn’t believe her.
Yuna Rhodes snuck a glance at her father, but the sight of his sinister eyes terrified her, and she quickly looked down again.
"I really didn’t," she said through gritted teeth, not daring to confess.
Seeing this, Mr. Rhodes’s expression didn’t soften in the slightest. He warned, "You’d better behave yourself at school. Don’t cause any trouble for me, or I’ll break your legs!"
Yuna Rhodes lowered her head even further. Her hand dropped inconspicuously to her side, and she subconsciously touched her thigh.
For some reason, her leg already felt cold.
"Dad, I’m done eating. I’m leaving now."
With that, she got up and left in a hurry.
Mr. Rhodes watched Yuna Rhodes’s retreating figure and fell silent.
「Kennet First High School」
Yuna Rhodes sprinted all the way to school, but she was still late.
She didn’t know what kind of bad luck she’d been having lately. The car she was in broke down on the way, and since it was the middle of rush hour, she couldn’t find a single taxi.
When she finally managed to get to school, she was caught by the Disciplinary Committee and had five points deducted on the spot.
To make matters worse, the grade-level dean was on duty today. He dragged her to his office without a second word and gave her a thorough scolding.
By the time she returned to her classroom, the first period was already over.
"Did you hear about what happened with Chloe Sinclair from Class Seven?"
"Yeah, I heard. When I got home last night, I saw it was trending. It only got pushed down by other topics this morning."
"You don’t think the student who made the post will get charged, do you? I heard from someone in Class Seven that Chloe Sinclair already reported it to the police."
CLANG!
As Yuna Rhodes entered the classroom, she saw two boys whispering in the back.
Every word she overheard made her break out in a cold sweat.
As luck would have it, another student came running past. Before she could move aside, they bumped into her, and the water cup in her hand slipped and fell to the floor.
This gave her the perfect outlet for her anger. Without a second thought, she lashed out, "Didn’t you see me? Why are you running in the classroom? Are you blind?"
The student who had accidentally bumped into Yuna Rhodes was taken aback. He scratched the back of his head. "Sorry, I was in a rush. How about I get you another cup of water?"
"Get lost!"
