Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Preparing a Birthday Gift for Mr. Sinclair

Mr. Sinclair’s birthday party was scheduled for Sunday.

Therefore, the moment Chloe returned home, a few designers came to the house to take her measurements, tasked with creating a suitable gown in the shortest amount of time.

It wasn’t until she was getting ready for bed that night that Chloe realized she still hadn’t prepared a birthday gift.

She had been so busy since her rebirth that she’d almost forgotten something so important.

"KNOCK KNOCK—"

Just as she was wondering what to get him, a knock came from her door.

She opened the door to see it was Nina.

Chloe’s expression was blank. She didn’t move, blocking the view into her room.

"Chloe, aren’t you going to let me in?"

"If you have something to say, say it here. I have homework to do."

’The teachers from Class Seven had assigned a ton of homework this time; even she wasn’t sure she could finish it all.’

"Chloe, we’re sisters. If there’s some kind of misunderstanding, let’s clear the air today."

As Nina spoke, a flash of loathing crossed her eyes, which Chloe happened to catch.

"We’re hardly sisters, and there’s no misunderstanding. If that’s why you’re here, don’t bother."

’She had no desire to put on an act for Nina.’

’The moments before her death in her past life were still vivid in her mind. Even if the Nina of this life wasn’t a murderer yet, she still couldn’t just let it go.’

"Chloe, I know you’re angry that I took everything from you, but I’m innocent."

"Innocent?"

Chloe almost laughed. "Then care to explain why everyone at school thinks I’m the adopted one?"

Nina’s face went pale. She blinked. "I didn’t start that rumor. I didn’t know anything about it."

"Didn’t know?"

Chloe raised an eyebrow, leaning back against the doorframe. Though she was a little shorter than Nina, her cold, imposing aura made Nina stiffen.

"If you missed it once or twice, I might believe you. But that time Ken Lawson was giving me a hard time, calling me the adopted daughter... why didn’t you explain then, hmm?"

Chloe’s voice was soft and her tone was even, but the slight lilt at the end of her words, which might otherwise have sounded alluring, sent a shiver of discomfort through Nina.

’Why?’

’Why did everyone have to revolve around Chloe?’

’Chloe was born a precious princess. Even after being switched at birth for eighteen years, she was still a princess the moment she returned.’

’But what about her?’

’The moment the real heiress returned, she was mercilessly cast aside.’

’On what grounds?’

’Why was she just a replacement?’

Nina’s eyes were filled with resentment, and Chloe, standing by, saw it all clearly. In her heart, she ached for her father and brothers from her past life. They didn’t deserve that.

When she had first returned to the Sinclair family, most of the attention had naturally shifted to her, but the family’s affection for Nina hadn’t diminished in the slightest.

But in the end, Nina still felt Mr. Sinclair was being unfair. She conspired with outsiders to bankrupt the Sinclair family, leading to its complete ruin and their deaths.

Fragments of her past life flashed through Chloe’s mind, and her tone grew impatient. "Is there anything else? If not, I’d like to get some rest."

But Nina quickly stopped her. The sullen look on her face had vanished completely, replaced by a gentle expression on her small, rosy cheeks.

"Chloe, please don’t tell Dad what we just talked about. If I’ve done anything wrong, just tell me. Please don’t let outsiders come between us."

"Look, I know you probably haven’t had time to prepare a gift for Dad, so I went ahead and got one for you. You can just give it to him on his birthday."
