Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Forceful
"I didn’t do it!" Evelyn Thompson’s face went deathly pale, and her voice trembled with indignation. "You’re slandering me!"
Chloe Sinclair was so exasperated by Evelyn Thompson that she let out a bitter laugh.
She raised an eyebrow, a cold smirk playing on her lips. "Then whose is that thing on your desk?"
Evelyn Thompson went pale. She glanced at the facial mask on her desk and opened her mouth, but couldn’t say a word.
"Chloe Sinclair, Evelyn just wanted one of your facial masks, didn’t she? She already said they’re hard to buy. If you don’t like it, just have Evelyn pay you for it. Was it necessary to raise your voice like that?"
Sylvia Holloway, sitting in her chair, couldn’t watch any longer, her face filled with impatience.
At these words, Chloe Sinclair didn’t get angry in the slightest. She fixed her deep gaze on Evelyn Thompson, a playful look on her face. "Fine. I’ll sell it to you."
When Evelyn Thompson heard this, her already ashen face grew even paler.
Looking at the playful glint in Chloe Sinclair’s eyes, she felt a surge of fear.
When Evelyn Thompson still didn’t move, a confused Sylvia Holloway chimed in, twisting the knife. "Evelyn, her kind only sees money. Just toss some cash at her like charity and be done with it. What if she goes around spreading rumors later?"
It would have been one thing if Sylvia Holloway hadn’t said it, but hearing her say it so openly made Evelyn feel awful.
However, the other girl continued, "It’s just one mask, a hundred at most. Just transfer her the money."
Evelyn Thompson instantly wanted Sylvia Holloway to shut her mouth.
But Chloe Sinclair looked up, the smile on her face unwavering, and asked, "A hundred?"
Evelyn Thompson’s expression tensed. She spun around, threw the mask from the desk at Chloe Sinclair, and snapped, "Fine, I don’t want your mask! Happy now?"
The sharp corner of the mask’s packaging scraped against the side of Chloe Sinclair’s face, leaving behind a startlingly red scratch.
Chloe Sinclair froze. The smile vanished from her eyes, and her voice instantly turned cold.
"Evelyn Thompson. Apologize."
Evelyn Thompson froze, her eyes instantly turning red. "I didn’t do it on purpose."
Her face was a mask of wronged innocence, but not only did she feel no guilt, she was actively trying to excuse her own actions.
’In the past, I definitely wouldn’t have stooped to arguing with someone like this. But I never thought today would be so infuriating. Of my roommates in this dorm, two have some kind of complicated history with me, and the other, someone I’ve never even met, is full of malice toward me.’
Chloe Sinclair’s eyes were glacial. She repeated the single, cold word: "Apologize."
"I..." Evelyn Thompson glanced at Chloe Sinclair’s pitch-black eyes and flinched. She quickly lowered her head, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s hum. "S-sorry."
Chloe Sinclair gave her an impassive glance before turning back to pack her luggage.
She didn’t have many things and was done packing in twenty minutes.
When she finished, Chloe Sinclair took out a book on high-temperature superconductivity to read. Just then, Zoe Yates, who hadn’t been part of the argument, suddenly stood up. She walked over to Chloe’s desk, her voice gentle. "Chloe, do you want to go get dinner together?"
Without a second thought, Chloe Sinclair replied, "I’m eating out."
Anyone could tell it was a polite refusal, but Zoe Yates acted as if she didn’t hear it. "Perfect, I was going to eat out too. Let’s go together. It’s on me."
Hearing this, Chloe Sinclair looked up. After a moment of silence, she didn’t refuse, but said with utter seriousness, "I eat a lot."
Zoe Yates didn’t seem to mind at all.
’Chloe Sinclair looks so thin,’ she thought. ’It’s not like she could eat me into bankruptcy.’
With that thought, she invited the other two roommates along as well.
