Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Conquering the Mentors
"If Linda Warren wants to dig her own grave, let her."
Director Warren chuckled and continued watching the screen.
On screen, the camera zoomed in tight on Chloe Sinclair and the host, Linda Warren.
Chloe Sinclair’s expression was calm and composed, while Linda Warren’s face was pale, completely lacking her earlier composure.
But the show had to go on. Linda Warren had no choice but to say in a trembling voice, "It seems I was mistaken. My apologies."
Though she admitted her mistake, her face still held a trace of hatred, which the camera keenly captured.
She was afraid Chloe Sinclair would clap back at her again, so she quickly spoke up. "The rules for the fourth round are as follows: contestants will draw topics and then present on them. Now, please come up and draw your lots in order."
Chloe Sinclair raised an eyebrow, the corners of her mouth curving into a slight smile.
Her luck wasn’t great this time. She drew the last number, and the topic was, of all things, the biological process of how cells evolve into animals.
When Chloe Sinclair saw the topic, she felt a flicker of interest.
’Eight had advised her before not to limit her studies to a single field, because the content of every field is actually interconnected. Only by studying and researching broadly could she solve a wider range of problems.’
The production team gave the contestants ten minutes to prepare.
Chloe Sinclair sat in the waiting room, her head bowed in thought.
On camera, the young woman sat perfectly straight in her chair, her long, beautiful hair obscuring her eyes and brows.
To everyone else, it looked like Chloe Sinclair was stumped by the topic she had drawn.
Seeing this, the mentor Diana Young felt it was a shame. She said to Howard Thorne beside her, "This kid is a hard worker. Even though she’s never studied biology, she hasn’t given up right away. I heard that during the auditions, quite a few people quit on the spot."
Howard Thorne also glanced at the silent Chloe Sinclair and shook his head in pity. "Chloe Sinclair is very talented. She just got unlucky this round."
’If she had drawn a Physics topic, she would have sailed through this round for sure.’
"The girl is level-headed. And who knows, she might be a polymath," Mr. Sutton added quietly.
No one else spoke, their skepticism evident.
「Ten minutes passed quickly.」
The contestants before her had all done well with their topics.
As the competition grew more intense, the mentors began asking more questions.
Soon, it was Chloe Sinclair’s turn to take the stage.
Chloe Sinclair was wearing a little white dress today, with a pair of black leather shoes and long white socks, creating a very pleasant look.
"Hello, mentors. The topic I’ll be presenting today is the process of how cells evolve into animals."
A faint smile touched Chloe Sinclair’s lips, and she appeared perfectly calm and composed.
Seeing the faint smiles from the four mentors, Chloe Sinclair continued, "My hypothesis is that all animal organs are the result of different types of bacteria evolving from single cells into complex assemblies, and that parasitism played a crucial role in this process."
"The most primitive cells likely originated in the stomach, then evolved to parasitize and form the nervous system, the heart..."
"From a microbiological standpoint, the microbial colonies formed by the interconnected glycoproteins of single-celled organisms are more conducive to certain life activities. As these colonies adapt to their environment, they gradually develop a collective consciousness. Their genetic material influences each other, leading to co-evolution, which aligns with Darwin’s theory of natural selection and makes them better adapted. Over the course of evolution, these cell clusters gradually specialized, differentiating into more collectives with increasingly diverse functions."
Chloe Sinclair’s expression was placid as she stood on stage, but among the mentors, Daisy Young was utterly shocked.
