Chapter 746: Chapter 716: Car Accident
Xing Yongqing wiped her tears as she spoke, "Ma Zhong was quite good to me in the past; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been with him for so many years. He is mainly insecure, and these recent years, he’s been hanging out with some bad people in society... That’s why he’s become like this..."
According to her, Ma Zhong learned all his bad behavior from others. Xu Chunliang sighed inwardly at how Old Xing ended up with such a daughter. Ma Zhong was clearly up to no good, and he didn’t seem to have any redeeming qualities. What could Xing Yongqing possibly like about him? Could it be that he was right all along?
Su Qing said, "If he truly liked you, he wouldn’t have humiliated you in front of so many people. Wake up; you need to decisively draw a line with someone like that."
Xu Chunliang said, "Your family wouldn’t agree, would they?"
Xing Yongqing said, "When I was in high school, they found out and forced us to break up, and I agreed at the time..." She did agree back then, but later she and Ma Zhong started seeing each other in secret, on and off over the years, persisting till now. If her family knew about her involvement with Ma Zhong, they definitely wouldn’t agree.
Su Qing said, "You two are not the same kind of people; you mustn’t have any more dealings with him." She noticed that the slap from Ma Zhong earlier hadn’t been enough to wake Xing Yongqing up. Normally, it wasn’t her place to comment on others’ relationships, but she couldn’t bear it any longer. How could Xing Yongqing be fond of someone so terrible? But no one can really explain affairs of the heart, just like herself; she knew Xu Chunliang already had a girlfriend, yet she still liked him and wanted to see him.
The rain seemed to have lessened a bit. Xu Chunliang suggested they leave and sought Xing Yongqing’s opinion, deciding to take her to her dormitory first.
Su Qing started the car, and as they entered the main road, Xu Chunliang realized something was off. A blue Raptor pickup with no headlights on burst through the night, speeding toward them. Xu Chunliang warned Su Qing, but it was too late.
After the Beetle was hit, it lost control, slanting erratically across the road and crashing into the green median in the middle of the road. The momentum carried the car through the barrier and into the opposite lane, where it flipped over onto its roof.
A truck filled with apples encountered the sudden situation and slammed on the brakes, causing the truck to tilt to the side and spill apples everywhere.
Inside the Beetle, Xu Chunliang and Su Qing watched as the truck loomed ever closer. It was the first time they felt death so near, but fortunately, the truck stopped less than half a meter from the Beetle.
Xu Chunliang unbuckled his seatbelt and immediately kicked the car door open, first getting Su Qing out of the car and urging her to flee to safety. He then rescued Xing Yongqing from the back seat. Xing Yongqing was paralyzed with fear from the sudden car accident, so Xu Chunliang dragged her out and carried her as he ran to safety, having caught a strong whiff of gasoline.
They had only taken a few steps when the Beetle behind them erupted into flames and exploded. The fire lit up the night sky, and the blast wave surged toward Xu Chunliang, prompting him to leap into the air. Even so, he felt as if a gigantic iron hammer had slammed into the middle of his back, leaving him breathless. Anyone else might have coughed up blood from the impact.
Xu Chunliang threw himself over Xing Yongqing, using his body to shield her from the shards of glass and metal debris flying from the explosion.
After the explosion, Su Qing rushed to Xu Chunliang, screaming his name at the top of her lungs, "Chunliang! Chunliang!"
Seeing Xu Chunliang struggle to get up, she ran over and hugged him tightly, sobbing loudly. Her worry turned to chaos, as she had feared Xu Chunliang wouldn’t make it out, feeling as if the sky had fallen. She held on so tightly that even Grandmaster Xu, with his great skills, couldn’t free himself. At this moment, his mind was a whirl of emotions.
Xing Yongqing, having narrowly escaped disaster, sat up from the ground. She turned back to look at the still-burning Beetle, utterly terrified.
Xu Chunliang gently stroked Su Qing’s hair, helping her calm down. After ensuring Xing Yongqing was safe, he slowly walked toward the offending pickup truck.
Two men emerged from the pickup, one of whom was making a call to the police.
Xu Chunliang’s pace quickened, and the two men sensed something was wrong. The leader, a man with silver hair, said to Xu Chunliang, "Bro, I’m sorry..."
Bang! Xu Chunliang’s fist already connected with his jaw.
Xu Chunliang was convinced this wasn’t an accidental incident. This vehicle had intentionally accelerated to crash into them. They had planned it to cause a car accident. If not for his presence in the car and his quick reflexes, someone might have lost their life by now.
The silver-haired man was knocked to the ground by Xu Chunliang’s punch.
The other man simultaneously moved toward Xu Chunliang, his hand gripping a screwdriver, aiming to stab Xu Chunliang in the chest with vicious intent.
From his opponent’s attack, Xu Chunliang discerned that this opponent was well-trained, further confirming his suspicions. Xu Chunliang grabbed the man’s wrist with his left hand and slammed his head into the nearby car window with his right hand.
The force of the collision shattered the car window. Xu Chunliang sensed movement behind him as the silver-haired man got up from the ground, withdrawing an expandable baton to strike Xu Chunliang’s back of the head. Xu Chunliang ducked to evade the blow, twisted his body, and landed a solid punch on the silver-haired man’s abdomen.
The silver-haired man hunched over in pain. Xu Chunliang grabbed his collar and pummeled his face with several punches, turning his face into a bloody mess.
If Su Qing hadn’t charged in to stop him, Xu Chunliang would have continued punching, venting his anger. The actions of these two were clearly an attempted murder; such people deserved death to settle the fury in his heart.
The police arrived at the scene and, seeing the situation, quickly called for an ambulance.
Xu Chunliang also had multiple cuts on his body. Under Su Qing’s persuasion, he went to the hospital for treatment first.
Fortunately, Su Qing and Xing Yongqing were not injured. Xing Yongqing was a bit shaken and didn’t say a word for quite a while. It wasn’t until her family arrived that she threw herself into her mother’s arms and began to cry.
They were just sent to the Provincial People’s Hospital. Xing Wenhua inquired about the situation and couldn’t understand why her daughter ended up in Su Qing’s car.
At this point, Su Qing couldn’t hide things for Xing Yongqing and briefly recounted what had happened that night. Upon hearing that her daughter was still in contact with Ma Zhong, Xing Wenhua was furious.
The police came to question Xu Chunliang. The two injured people in the pickup truck weren’t hurt by the car accident, but rather from being violently beaten by Xu Chunliang. They claimed they wanted to sue Xu Chunliang.
Xu Chunliang was no easy target, firmly insisting that he acted in self-defense, arguing that today’s incident wasn’t an ordinary car accident but a planned and purposeful murder attempt. He countersued the two for attempted murder.
The police initially intended to take Xu Chunliang in for questioning, but Xing Wenhua made a direct call to their superior. Xing Wenhua rarely used her connections, but this incident very likely involved her daughter. How could she not stand up for these young people? Not to mention, the accident had many suspicious points. Even if it were a regular accident, Xing Wenhua would still side with Xu Chunliang. The pickup truck was involved in dangerous driving, and those two deserved a beating.
After Xing Wenhua got involved, the preliminary accident report came out quickly. Based on the on-site inspection and surveillance footage, it was initially determined that the pickup truck had deliberately rear-ended the other vehicle. The two individuals in the pickup had used wrenches, batons, and other weapons, and Xu Chunliang’s actions were in self-defense. Whether it was excessive self-defense would depend on the final injury reports and more on-site evidence.
At Xing Wenhua’s request, the police mobilized overnight to detain Ma Zhong. In Xing Wenhua’s view, even if Ma Zhong had nothing to do with the accident, slapping her daughter in public was unforgivable, and he must be punished accordingly.
Xu Chunliang only had some surface wounds. After a simple treatment, he didn’t want to stay in the hospital and, after greeting Xing Wenhua, left first.
Su Qing proactively helped him, but Xu Chunliang smiled and said, "I can walk on my own. You don’t have to support me."
Su Qing said, "It’s all my fault tonight. If I hadn’t meddled, you wouldn’t have gotten into trouble."
Xu Chunliang said, "It’s not really trouble. Anyway, let me take you home first."
Su Qing shook her head, insisting on taking him to the hotel first.
Xu Chunliang was convinced that the car accident was deliberately staged, but he couldn’t determine who the target was. Although the incident arose because of Xing Yongqing, it seemed unlikely that Ma Zhong would do such a thing; he probably didn’t even have the capacity to orchestrate something like this.
The remaining possibility was that it targeted either himself or Su Qing. This could only be determined by the police investigation results.
Xu Chunliang ultimately didn’t get the results he was waiting for. The next morning, he learned that both individuals who had caused the accident in the pickup truck mysteriously disappeared that night.
The two police guards hadn’t noticed when they left; they hadn’t exited through the main entrance, presumably escaping through the hospital room window.
Ma Zhong swore he knew nothing about the car accident, but he confessed to assaulting Xing Yongqing.
Xing Wenlong was so occupied with dealing with his daughter’s situation that he didn’t attend the first day’s meeting.
Xu Chunliang didn’t make any public statements. During the meeting, Fan Lidada noticed the scratches on his face and curiously asked, "Who scratched your face?"
Xu Chunliang smiled embarrassedly and didn’t explain, as explanations were futile.
"A cat?" Fan Lidada said suggestively.
Xu Chunliang nodded perfunctorily.
Fan Lidada soon found out the answer when he came across a video, not that he was deliberately searching for something related to Xu Chunliang. He was actually searching for Dongzhou Barbecue when the video just happened to pop up.
The video content was about a car accident on Yangcheng Road last night, where a Beetle was rear-ended and overturned by a pickup truck. The Beetle caught fire and exploded, but the passengers escaped in time, so there were no casualties.
It was reported that the Beetle’s owner was Su Qing, a rising star host on Provincial Satellite TV. When Fan Lidada saw Su Qing’s name, he perked up and searched again for Su Qing’s car accident, instantly finding a plethora of videos. It’s truly astonishing what big data can achieve.
