Chapter 735: Chapter 705: Thanks for the Reminder
Xu Changshan turned around and saw Huang Youlong standing not far behind him, smiling at him.
Xu Changshan already knew Huang Youlong’s identity. This president of Mingde Group was the little boy who often visited Huichun Hall in the past. He remembered back then, Huang Youlong had a little braid, was very clever, sweet-talking, and greeted everyone, making him very likable.
Ever since his elder brother told him about the past grudges between the two families before he passed away, Xu Changshan realized that Huang Youlong had ulterior motives. This visit to Dongzhou was probably not just to reminisce about the past.
Xu Changshan said, "President Huang?"
Huang Youlong said, "Just call me Youlong. I remember when I was a kid, I would follow you and call you brother."
Xu Changshan smiled faintly, "It’s been so long that I don’t remember." It’s best to keep a distance from someone like him.
Huang Youlong said, "The changes in the country are so fast, I can no longer find any familiar memories."
Xu Changshan said, "You’re too late. The second-phase construction of Changxing demolished those old houses, including Huichun Hall and the old house next to it." He remembered something, took out his phone, and found a photo he had saved. Huang Youlong leaned over to take a look.
Xu Changshan pointed at one of the photos and said, "This is what Huichun Hall looked like a few years ago, and these houses next to it are the places you used to live."
Huang Youlong stared for a while and said with emotion, "I remember. I used to play a lot in this alley, and you even made an iron ring for me."
Of course, Xu Changshan remembered, but the little boy from the past had become the president of the largest Han Medical Group, and more importantly, this person had strong hostility towards Huichun Hall.
In the depths of Xu Changshan’s heart, he believed that this matter was in the past, and if there were any grudges, they were from the previous generation. If Huang Youlong hated Huichun Hall, it should be directed at him, not his descendants. He wanted to have an open talk with Huang Youlong, but also realized that even if the truth were revealed, it wouldn’t change anything.
"I heard you’ve taken Korean citizenship?"
Huang Youlong nodded, "Mainly because my business is all in Seoul, it’s more convenient to have their nationality."
"Are you married?" Xu Changshan asked, realizing that this question was rather trivial. Huang Youlong should be sixty years old and undoubtedly already settled down with a career.
Huang Youlong said, "Yes, I’ve been married for a long time. My wife is from Seoul."
Xu Changshan said, "Time flies, I can’t believe you’re this old now, and I’ve aged too."
Huang Youlong smiled, "It doesn’t matter. You still have your descendants, and they’re all quite accomplished."
This apparent compliment made Xu Changshan feel a chill. Was Huang Youlong threatening him?
Xu Changshan didn’t want to continue talking with him, "Sorry, I still need to go buy groceries."
Huang Youlong stepped aside to make way for Xu Changshan, maintaining a gentlemanly demeanor throughout. As he watched Xu Changshan slowly walk away, a flash of coldness passed through the depths of Huang Youlong’s deep eyes.
He suddenly frowned because he realized someone was approaching him. The person’s strides were not large, and they walked slowly, but every step was solid and strong. From the sound of the footsteps, Huang Youlong had already judged that the person was well-trained.
A quick glance out of the corner of his eye revealed a tall middle-aged man. Huang Youlong recognized the person as Xu Changshan’s son, Xu Jiaxuan.
After attending his uncle’s funeral, Xu Jiaxuan did not leave immediately. It was said that he planned to stay a little longer in the country. He and Huang Youlong had met at Zhou Renhe’s funeral, but there had been no interaction.
Xu Jiaxuan took out a pack of cigarettes, lit one up, and smiled at Huang Youlong, "You look familiar."
Huang Youlong smiled, "Mr. Xu Jiaxuan, right? We just met in Jizhou a couple of days ago."
Xu Jiaxuan chuckled, "Mr. Huang, you have quite a good memory. I thought you might not remember me at your age."
Huang Youlong said, "I don’t think I’ve reached that level of forgetfulness yet, have I?"
Xu Jiaxuan extended the cigarette pack towards Huang Youlong, who took a cigarette without hesitation. Noticing that Xu Jiaxuan had no intention of lighting it for him, he indicated that he didn’t have a lighter.
Xu Jiaxuan apologized, took out a lighter, and lit it for him.
Huang Youlong took a puff and said, "I used to live here too, our family was neighbors with Huichun Hall."
Xu Jiaxuan said, "Distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors. I’ve heard my uncle mention it."
Huang Youlong responded with an "Oh," and asked, "What did Elder Zhou say?"
Xu Jiaxuan exhaled a puff of smoke, "He said that there used to be a family named Huang next to Huichun Hall, and one day the whole family was suddenly poisoned. By the time they were found, it was too late, and even after being taken to the hospital, they couldn’t be saved, except for one little boy who survived. If I’m not mistaken, that boy was you, wasn’t it?"
Huang Youlong began to realize that Xu Jiaxuan was here with ill intentions, smiling leisurely at Xu Jiaxuan. Although he had investigated this person, there was very little information he could gather, only knowing that Xu Jiaxuan divorced early and went to North America, where he built a family and primarily engaged in financial investment. His career was developing well, but his family life was not good and he had recently divorced.
Huang Youlong’s focus on Xu Jiaxuan was far less compared to Xu Chunliang, and of course, this was related to his revenge plan, as Xu Jiaxuan was not his primary target.
Huang Youlong said: "It’s me!"
Xu Jiaxuan said: "Because of your family’s affairs, my grandfather got implicated."
Huang Youlong said: "It seems Mr. Xu is also familiar with the case from back then."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "It’s all in the past, why bring it up, don’t you think?"
Huang Youlong smiled and said: "Yes! It’s been so long, it’s hard to say who’s right or wrong."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "It’s not hard to say, the police closed the case back then, everything in your family started because of your father; he took poison out of guilt. My grandfather was the victim, had nothing to do with this, but still was treated as a suspect and died with injustice."
Huang Youlong frowned, didn’t we agree not to talk about it?
Xu Jiaxuan said: "You were smart to leave back then. If you hadn’t left, I guess you would have faced big troubles. By the way, how did you manage to leave back then?"
The smile gradually faded from Huang Youlong’s face, Xu Jiaxuan was clearly targeting him.
Huang Youlong said: "It was so long ago, I can’t remember."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "Your father was deemed a spy back then; in that era, there was no legitimate way for you to leave, it must have been his accomplices who helped."
Huang Youlong said: "I don’t think it’s Mr. Xu’s place to comment on my father’s matters."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "Don’t rush. Times have changed now, otherwise someone like you would be blacklisted with no chance to return. You should thank this era."
Huang Youlong said: "We all should thank this era."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "We Chinese value family and kinship the most. Even though you took Korean nationality, you haven’t forgotten your family. From this, it seems you have some conscience."
Huang Youlong laughed heartily and said: "I’m honored to receive Mr. Xu’s praise."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "Everyone has family, everyone wants their family to be safe. I have a son, young and promising, much stronger than I was back then. How many children do you have?"
Huang Youlong hadn’t had a chance to answer him.
Xu Jiaxuan said: "I heard you have a son with your ex-wife, who’s still in Taiwan Island, named Huang Ming’en, right?"
Huang Youlong’s heart sank. He divorced his ex-wife long ago, and only a handful of people knew about it. Just what is Xu Jiaxuan’s background to have such a clear understanding of his situation?
Xu Jiaxuan continued: "Turns out we have something in common; you’re also remarried. But your second marriage goal was clear, marrying the daughter of a Seoul chaebol, Jin Zhixiu, and you have three lovely daughters, each prettier than the last. Your youngest daughter Huang Xuyan is the campus belle of Ewha Womans University."
Huang Youlong looked at Xu Jiaxuan with a gloomy gaze.
Xu Jiaxuan didn’t even look at him, took a puff of his cigarette, and said: "If our Chunliang didn’t have a girlfriend, I could introduce them."
Huang Youlong said coldly: "I never interfere with my children’s matters."
Xu Jiaxuan said: "You must care a lot about this daughter. If she were hurt, you’d surely risk your life to protect her." He turned to Huang Youlong, his gaze sharp as a knife: "That’s how we Chinese are. In the Xu Family, I’m the most useless, and the most unscrupulous."
He threw the cigarette on the ground and stomped it out: "I’ve heard eating too much kimchi makes one extreme. Now that you’re back, enjoy some Chinese food."
Huang Youlong said: "Thanks for the reminder!"
Xu Jiaxuan placed the pack of cigarettes in Huang Youlong’s hand: "Save it for later!" With that, he walked towards the depths of the alley.
Huang Youlong clenched his fist, ready to throw the cigarette pack away, but then changed his mind. He found something inside the pack. Opening it, he discovered a necklace with a silver cross pendant. He couldn’t hide his inner shock; this necklace was a birthday gift for his daughter. Huang Youlong quickly took out his phone to call his daughter.
On the other end, his daughter spoke in a deliberately lowered voice: "Dad, I’m in class."
Huang Youlong finally relaxed a bit: "Did you lose something?"
"Oh? You already know, the necklace you gave me is gone, sorry."
"It’s okay! I’ll give you another one." Huang Youlong hung up the phone, the necklace in his hand still swaying.
Xu Chunliang didn’t even know Dongzhou had a Commerce Committee department. No wonder they say it’s tough to make a mark in the system; there are far more departments than sects in martial arts, like grains of sand in the Ganges. Trying to carve a bloody path and reach the peak among these countless departments is almost impossible, harder than becoming the top martial artist.
As a deputy mayor in Hu Shan Town, Xu Chunliang had some presence, but in Dongzhou City, he wasn’t much. At the Commerce Committee entrance, he still had to register and wait to be summoned by the leaders.
