Chapter 236: Alfie
Aria stands up from the table without any sort of hesitation and immediately begins to make her way over to the counter. Of course it wouldn’t be right to let her charge in without backup.
I quickly follow behind her until we finally make it up to the bartender. He isn’t really looking towards us at the moment which is good.
"I can’t believe you came back already Alfie! I thought it would take you longer!" A man shouts with a surprised tone.
Alfie lets out a hearty laugh.
"Of course not. I’m pretty good at what I do," He responds while putting an arm around the man.
"You really can rely on Alfie for anything huh," Another man chimes in.
So he does have a bit of a reputation around here... But what kind is it? I still don’t really know much about what he does or how strong of a person he is.
Before I can think any further about what to do next, Aria makes her way over to him and taps his shoulder.
He turns towards her with a big smile across his face; the other men just watch in silence as they wait to see what happens next.
Sigh.
I walk over as well and accompany her.
"Two beautiful girls approaching me? This must be my lucky day," Alfie says with excitement in his voice.
"Hard to ignore you with an entrance like you made. Why don’t you come join us?" Aria asks him with a soft tone.
I could hear it clear as day in her voice, she is playing it well. She sounds like she’s into him when in reality... It’s the complete opposite.
He looks back towards the men for a second before he takes his arm away from the one man. Without even hesitating he moves away from them completely.
"Well, lead the way beautiful," He responds as he puts his hands into his pockets.
Honestly I don’t know if it is a good idea when Eliza hasn’t seen him in a long time but... It is the only way to get him away from the crowd.
Unless Aria is taking him to a completely different table?
I follow behind them both until we reach the table directly behind our previous one where the others are waiting. She takes a seat and then he sits right next to her.
"So what’s up miss?" He asks with a sly smirk on his face.
"We heard you might know a thing or two Alfie," Aria responds softly.
"Haha. You might have to be a bit more specific than that," Alfie says after letting out a laugh.
"Maybe you know some important people or perhaps you know about something that is moving around the realm?" Aria replies while leaning onto the table.
Even though she is wearing quite the fancy attire, I can see her figure is working its charm on him.
But he goes silent for a couple of moments before more of a serious look appears on his face.
"So you are more interested in what’s going on outside? You’ll have to be a lot more specific," Alfie says while leaning back in the chair.
I plant my arms on the table.
"Do you know anyone that is connected to the monarchs or who helps them?" I ask.
His eyes immediately shift towards me as he leans forward.
"Why the hell would you want to know about the damn monarchs!?!" He responds with anger in his voice.
"It is important. We’re helping a friend," I say with a serious tone.
He lets out a sigh as he calms down again.
"Albus was one of the biggest players for them, especially in this realm. I’ve heard they have been scrambling to find another person to help oversee this realm," Alfie explains.
"Who would they possibly pick?" I question.
"Probably another King if anything. They are the most reliable when it comes to serving a purpose," He answers without any hesitation.
Another king is about to be elected soon. That means time is even more limited than we originally thought, especially if the monarchs are actively searching.
Footsteps approach the table and before I can say anything, I notice the long purple hair dangling down from her hood.
"I see you guys didn’t need a hand from me after all," Lust says with a smile across her face.
I notice a look of fear on Alfie’s face as he realizes who is standing in front of him.
"We definitely don’t. Why don’t you go do whatever it is that you do," Aria speaks up with a calm tone.
Lusts eyes shift to Aria for a moment.
"Right. I do have a lot more important matters to attend to," Lust responds before turning around.
Alfie remains silent as he continues to watch in fear as Lust walks away.
I didn’t expect her to randomly show up here after disappearing for so long, but I guess she is pretty good at that. The whole showing up when we don’t want her help thing.
Aria told us how he acted around Lust whenever she showed up and it was never a good reaction.
He didn’t trust her in the slightest.
Eventually she disappears from the tavern and Alfie finally lets out a sigh of relief as he runs one of his hands through his hair.
"I can’t believe I was that damn close to one... I don’t want to be involved with any of you," Alfie says with panic in his voice.
"It is a little too late for that Alfie," Aria replies with a serious tone.
I lightly tap my fingers on the table.
"So do you know any potential candidates that they might go after?" I ask while staring right at him.
"King Leoten is probably the next best replacement for Albus," Alfie answers quietly.
"Where would he be?" I ask immediately.
Alfie doesn’t say anything for a moment.
"The Kingdom of Vespiel," He answers.
