Chapter 87: Once I Come to Know
"Grandma, it’s your medicine time." Thea said, glancing at the clock and remembering.
"Ah, and it’s my sleep time too. Okay, you two go upstairs... I’m going to sleep." Grandma Grace added.
"Remember to take your medicine grandma." Thea reminded her as Grandma Grace headed to her room.
"Okay ...Miss Klein."Grandma Grace waved her hands.
"Goodnight, Grandma." Charlotte chimed in.
"Hmm... Goodnight..." She replied softly.
"You take the bed... I’ll sleep on the sofa." Thea said as they entered her room.
"Sharing is..." Charlotte started to say.
"Caring," Thea completed with a smile.
"Won’t you feel uncomfortable sharing a bed with me?" Thea asked, considering Charlotte’s feelings.
Charlotte’s room was spacious, with a large bed, and as the only princess of the Wright family, she was used to having her own space. So she looked at Charlotte and spoke from her heart.
"I haven’t shared a bed with anyone since elementary school... but with you, I can. You are my friend, Thea.." Charlotte said, her voice filled with affection and trust.
Both of them settled into the bed after taking a bath. "We’ll watch a movie... first, let me call my grandma." Charlotte said.
"Charlotte, I won’t watch. I’m going to sleep." Thea yawned, snuggling into the blankets before lying down on the bed.
"As you wish... but I’ll watch." Charlotte replied, dialing her grandma’s number. After chatting with her, she opened Thea’s laptop and browsed through the movie options.
"What type of movie are you going to watch?" Thea asked, her voice sleepy.
"R-18... want to join?" Charlotte teased, laughing.
"No... I’m not interested. You continue." Thea replied, already half-asleep.Charlotte chose a movie, ’Titanic’, leaned against the headboard, and continued to watch. Thea looked at the screen and decided to take a look. "Titanic!" Thea exclaimed. This was one of her favourite movies. She couldn’t get enough of it, even after watching it many times.
"Someone said earlier that she was not interested in watching it." Charlotte teased, rolling her eyes at her.
"It’s my favourite." Thea replied, snuggling into the blankets as she joined Charlotte to watch the movie with her. Her sleepiness vanished.
"Are you not feeling asleep?" Charlotte asked, noticing Thea’s sudden alertness.
"No... because of your choice of movie." Thea laughed, her eyes fixed on the screen as Jack and Rose’s iconic love story unfolded.
"Remember, there are some R-18 scenes in this movie." Charlotte said with a sly smile.
"It’s not that explicit." She replied, while being busy with watching the movie.
"Have you ever watched a typical explicit movie?"
"No.." She shook her head.
"You should really watch movies like that." Charlotte teased. "It’ll enhance our kissing skills."
"I’m watching these because I want to be prepared for when I finally get my chance with Ryan.I will implement these skills on him." Charlotte continued.
The movie ended at midnight.Thea looked at Charlotte and found tears streaming down her face. "What happened? Why are you crying?"
"This movie tears me up every time I watch it," Charlotte replied, her voice trembling. "Thea, what if...R.. Ryan leaves me? Then what will I do?"
She quickly took Charlotte in her arms and comforted her. "Don’t cry, Charlotte. I believe you will succeed in your love life. Your behavior and kindness will surely win him over."
But Charlotte continued to sob. "What if he marries that girl? What if I lose him forever?"
Thea sighed and offered words of wisdom. "Charlotte, you can’t force someone to love you if they don’t feel the same way. Try your best, and if it fails, move on."
Charlotte’s tears slowed, and she looked up at her with pleading eyes. "Is it so easy to move on? I have loved him for so long. How can I move on easily if I fail? Thea, you too are in love with someone, and it’s also one-sided. Can you move on easily?"
Charlotte’s question made Thea pause, and she couldn’t find the words to respond. She too was in love with Ryder, and the thought of losing him was unbearable. What if...one day he... She stopped herself from thinking further, unable to confront the possibility of heartache.
Charlotte stopped crying and closed the laptop. She lay down on the bed, trying to shake off the lingering emotions, and decided to sleep. But Charlotte’s words continuously played in Thea’s mind, making it difficult for her to drift off.
"Can’t fall asleep?" Charlotte asked, noticing Thea’s restlessness.
"Hmm..." Thea murmured.
Charlotte turned to her, "Thea ,if one day we didn’t get our beloved one in our life...we will not leave each other, okay?" she asked, her voice laced with a sense of desperation.
"Hmm...okay..." Thea hummed softly, her voice a gentle reassurance that they would always be there for each other, no matter what the future held.
Slowly, the time passed, and both she and Charlotte fell asleep. In the morning, there was a knocking on the door. Thea woke up from her sleep, rubbed her bleary eyes, and looked at the clock. "It’s 7:30 am!" she exclaimed. She quickly got up from her bed, noticing that Charlotte was still fast asleep.
She opened the door to find Grandma Grace standing there with a warm smile. "Breakfast is ready, come downstairs."
"Hmm, Grandma..Going." Thea responded, still trying to shake off the sleep.
Grandma Grace headed downstairs, leaving her to wake Charlotte. She got herself freshened up before she went to wake Charlotte up.
"Charlotte, wake up.Its getting late." Thea said, gently shaking her friend’s shoulder.
"Let me sleep for a little while longer.. Thea.." Charlotte murmured, trying to snuggle back under the blankets.
"Quickly wake up." Thea continued to rouse her. "Thea, let me sleep, please." Charlotte pleaded.
"Wake up, or else I will pour water on you."
Charlotte finally sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Ah, you’re so noisy... I was dreaming about Ryan. He was going to say something important to me...Why did you wake me up?" she complained.
Thea couldn’t help but think to herself, ’Wow, yesterday she was crying, and now she’s dreaming about Ryan.’
"Grandma would get angry, quickly get fresh." Thea urged, trying to hurry Charlotte along.
"Thea, today is a holiday... I’m going to sleep," Charlotte said, trying to snuggle back under the blankets.
But Thea was not having it. She pulled Charlotte towards the bathroom and handed her a brush. Seeing no motion, Thea put toothpaste on the brush and gently forced Charlotte’s mouth open, shoving the brush in. "Don’t act like a spoiled kid," Thea whispered, trying to stifle a laugh.
But then, Thea dropped a bombshell. "Ryan called you a few minutes ago when I received it."
Charlotte snapped out of her sleep, her eyes widening in surprise. "What did he say?" she asked, her voice now alert and eager. Her grogginess instantly disappeared.
Thea just laughed before emerging from the washroom. "Get breakfast, then I’ll tell you," she teased, leaving Charlotte in the bathroom.
Charlotte freshened up and went to the room. She looked into her phone and found no call from Ryan. "Thea...you...you lied to me!" she exclaimed.
Thea looked at her before she smiled mischievously. "So...what...this technique only worked for you..."
Charlotte was about to approach her, but Thea quickly dashed out of the room and went downstairs.
"Why are you running early in the morning?" Grandma Grace asked Thea, noticing her hurry.
"Someone got pissed off early in the morning,"
"Has she woken up?" Grandma Grace asked, referring to Charlotte.
"Yes, with much difficulty..." Thea spoke, taking a bite of her egg toast.
Charlotte came downstairs, and Grandma Grace urged her to eat. "Here you are, have your breakfast before it’s getting cold." Charlotte took a bite of the toast, still looking a bit upset.
"Did my granddaughter piss you off earlier?" Grandma Grace asked, trying to control her laugh.
"Yes, Grandma...she is becoming very bad," Charlotte replied, playing along.
"Thea, why are you becoming bad to Miss Wright?" Grandma Grace asked, still trying to stifle her laughter as she rebuked Thea.
She looked at grandmother as she answered, "She was not waking up, so I used a technique."
"See!! With your technique, Miss Wright is hurt deeply."
"Don’t be sad, Charlotte...in the future, you will dream about him a lot..." Thea whispered in her ears.
"Thea...I will too annoy you when you get together with your beloved...once I come to know your crush...you will see.." Charlotte whispered softly back in her ears.
