Chapter 62: Willing to Give Him Great Grandchildren
Elder Edward’s eyes took on a faraway look. "Hmm, I’m thinking I’m traveling back to my old days.." he said, a hint of wistfulness in his voice.
Rosie playfully teased him, "You keep thinking that, then..."
Elder Edward chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. He basked in the warmth and love of the moment, feeling grateful for the joy that Rosie and his family brought into his life.
Elder Edward stood up from the sofa. "Grandfather, are you not going to wear a tie?" Thea asked, noticing he wasn’t wearing one.
"Oh, I forgot to wear it."
"Then let me help you with it.." Rosie suggested.
Elder Edward nodded his head, and Rosie helped him put on the tie.
"Now you are looking great for the event, Grandfather.." Thea said.
"Let’s go downstairs to greet the guests.." Elder Edward suggested, turning to his wife and taking her hand before leaving the room.
Thea followed behind them. The guests had already arrived, and Elder Edward and his wife looked great together. Ryder’s grandmother was wearing a elegant outfit, complete with pearls, while Elder Edward dward looked dashing in his suit and tie.
Elder Edward and Rosie were greeting the guests with warm smiles and gracious laughter, while Thea stood observing them, feeling a bit out of place. Elizabeth, Ryder’s mother, approached her."Are you feeling alone?" .
"No, Aunty." They replied, shaking her head slightly.
Elizabeth’s eyes filled with understanding. "You can accompany me if it’s okay with you." she suggested, offering a comforting smile.
"Okay, Aunty," Thea agreed to her.
Besides Ryder’s family members, she didn’t know anyone from the guests, so she agreed to Elizabeth’s suggestion.
"Your grandma went to her ancestors’ house today. Is everything okay there?" Elizabeth asked, remembering that Grace had previously mentioned she wouldn’t be able to attend the event as she had to go to her ancestors’ place.
"Her elder brother is sick, so she went to meet him."
"Madam Wynn has an elder brother?" Elizabeth asked, her eyebrows raised in surprise, as she didn’t know about it.
"Yes, Aunty. I was too astonished when I heard her say that. I heard he didn’t want to keep contact with her due to some family matters," Thea explained.
Elizabeth’s expression turned thoughtful, and she nodded slowly, taking in the new information.
As they continued their conversation, a dashing-looking man entered the grand hall, commanding attention with his confident stride. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored navy blue suit, perfectly accentuating his broad shoulders and chiseled features. His crisp white shirt and patterned tie added a touch of sophistication, while his dark hair was styled perfectly, framing his handsome face. His bright eyes sparkled with warmth as he approached them.
"Mother," he greeted, his deep voice resonating through the hall as he reached Elizabeth’s side.
Elizabeth’s face lit up with a warm smile. "Ah, you arrived now. Just now I was about to call you,"
Thea’s heartbeat increased as she noticed the figure in front of her. She felt a sudden jolt of nervousness, her eyes fixed on the man’s handsome face. His piercing gaze seemed to see right through her, making her feel both intimidated and fascinated at the same time.
"Mother, where is Father?" Ryder asked, his voice breaking the spell.
"He went to greet Mr. Falcon," Elizabeth answered, her eyes turning to Ryder with a gentle smile.
Ryder nodded, his eyes scanning the room before returning to Thea, his gaze lingering on her face with interest. Thea’s heart skipped a beat as she felt his eyes on her, her cheeks flushing slightly with embarrassment.
"Here you are.." Elder Edward said, his voice amused, as he and Rosie approached the group.
"I told you not to go to the company today to accompany me, yet you disobey my request," Elder Edward’s eyes narrowing slightly.
"Grandfather, I am sorry, but today we have an important client to meet, so I went." Ryder replied, his voice defensive.
"There are many people in the company who could do that in your absence."
"Okay, sorry for it. You can ask anything from me," Ryder sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
"Anything?" Elder Esward raised his eyebrows, his eyes glinting with mischief.
"Hmm..." Ryder hummed, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Then give me great-grandchildren..." Elder Edward said, his face deadpan.
Everyone was shocked, their eyes widening in surprise.
"Grandfather..." Ryder trailed off.
"What, Grandfather? You only said I could ask anything from you," Edward said, his voice innocent.
"Why are you teasing him?" Rosie asked, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Did I ask anything difficult? He only has to get married and have..." Elder Edward started to say, before Rosie pinched his shoulder hard, anticipating what he was going to say next.
Rosie knew him well, and she knew exactly what he wanted to say, so she stopped him. Elder Edward, in his life, only got scared by his wife. He looked at her, rubbing the spot where she pinched, his eyes filled with a mix of surprise and affection.
"Ow, Rosie.. darling" Elder Edward said, his voice playful, as he caressed the spot where she pinched him.
"Grandfather, I will fulfill your wish later. Now, let’s concentrate on today’s event," Ryder suggested, his voice diplomatic.
"Don’t forget your words, Ryder," Elder Edward said, his eyes glinting with a hint of mischief.
"Darling, let’s concentrate on today’s event," Edward said, turning to Rosie, his voice warm and affectionate. "Yes, dear, let’s focus on the event. We can discuss Ryder’s marital prospects later.." she said, her voice teasing.
Ryder rolled his eyes good-naturedly, his face flushing slightly with embarrassment. "I’m looking forward to it.." he said, his voice dry.
Elizabeth, who had been watching the exchange, smiled warmly. "I think we’ve discussed enough for now. Let’s enjoy the event, shall we?" she suggested, her voice gracious.
"Thea, Ryder got embarrassed.." Elizabeth whispered to Thea, her eyes shining with mirth.
"Look at his face.." Elizabeth added, her voice barely containing her giggles.
"Mother, I am present here, I can clearly hear you," Ryder said, his voice dry, his face falling into a gloomy expression.
His face, which had been relaxed just moments before, now looked gloomy, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips pressed together in a thin line.
"Oh, I forgot you were present," Elizabeth laughed at his words.
"Eli, what are you talking about?" Ryder’s father, Harrison, appeared and asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"I will tell you later," Elizabeth answered, her smile mysterious.
"Okay... Mrs. Falcon is asking for you to let go and meet her," Harrison said, his eyes turning to Elizabeth.
"Okay," Elizabeth replied, nodding, as she followed Harrison, leaving Thea and Ryder alone.
She watched them go, her eyes turning to Ryder, who was still looking gloomy. She smiled sympathetically, and Ryder’s face relaxed slightly, his eyes softening as he looked at her.
"Brother, what’s up?" John asked who was approaching Ryder on seeing Ryder’s expression he asked.
John was wearing a tailored black suit, perfectly fitted to his athletic build. The suit was made of a luxurious wool blend, with a subtle sheen that caught the light. His white dress shirt was starched to perfection, with a slim collar that framed his face.
A patterned silver tie added a touch of elegance, complementing the suit’s classic style. His dark brown hair was styled perfectly, and his eyes sparkled with warmth as he smiled. The overall effect was one of confident sophistication, as if he had just stepped out of a high-end fashion magazine.
His crisp white shirt and patterned tie added a touch of sophistication, while his dark hair was styled perfectly, framing his chiseled face. His bright blue eyes sparkled with amusement as he took in Ryder’s gloomy expression.
"Why is your face looking so gloomy?" John asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
"What happened to him, Thea?" John turned to Akai, his eyes inquiring.
"His grandfather..." Thea started to explain, glancing at Ryder before continuing, "Asked him to give great-grandchildren." She struggled to contain her laughter, her lips twitching with amusement.
The news made John chuckle out loud. He laughed and taunted, "Ryder, all you have to do is have an intimate relationship and have kids."
"John, you’d better keep your mouth shut," a furious Ryder scowled.
"Why are you getting angry?" John questioned, grin remaining. "You just marry the girl you like and you can fulfill your grandfather’s wish." He was still teasing, laughter glimmering in his eyes.
"John, I’d like to tell your grandfather that you’re willing to give him great-grandchildren over the phone. How do you feel?" With a tinge of retaliation and a sarcastic tone, Ryder spoke.
