Chapter 57: Charlotte’s Surprise
When they parted from their embrace, Charlotte’s face lit up with excitement. "Today, you have to go with me to a restaurant. My treat." she said, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm.
Ryan smiled, "Okay." he agreed.
Together, they walked out of the airport, Ryan carrying his luggage with ease. A black car, arranged by Ryan’s family to pick him up, waited for them outside. The chauffeur, dressed in a crisp black suit, greeted them with a nod.
"I will go with you." Charlotte announced.
Ryan, hearing her words, opened the passenger door for her with a gallant gesture. Charlotte slid into the seat first, followed by Ryan, who placed his luggage in the backseat. After the car started moving, the atmosphere inside became quiet, punctuated only by the soft typing of Ryan on his laptop. The sound filled the silence, a gentle accompaniment to their comfortable quietness, as they settled in for the ride.
Ryan is the son of the esteemed Dr. Lucas Harrington, director of St. Michael’s Hospital, one of the largest and most prestigious medical centers in the city. As the heir to his father’s legacy, Ryan is being groomed to take over the family’s business interests, which include the hospital, real estate investments, and various philanthropic ventures.
Ryan’s work involves learning the ropes of the family business, attending board meetings, and representing the Harrington family at high-profile events. He is also expected to take an active role in the hospital’s operations, working closely with his father and other senior executives to shape the institution’s strategic direction.
In addition to his responsibilities at the hospital, Ryan is also involved in various charitable initiatives, leveraging the family’s resources to support healthcare-related causes and community development projects. His work requires strong leadership skills, business acumen, and a deep understanding of the healthcare industry.
He was prepared to take over the reins from his father, Ryan is focused on building his expertise, networking with key stakeholders, and making a positive impact on the community. His ultimate goal is to carry on his family’s legacy while leaving his own mark on the world.
He had been abroad for several years, pursuing his higher education in a foreign land. He was six years older than Charlotte, and their friendship dated back to her childhood in Canada. The two had grown up together, sharing countless memories and experiences. However, when Ryan left to study abroad, Charlotte made the decision to leave Canada and live with her grandmother in New York. Despite the distance and time apart, their friendship remained strong, and Charlotte had always looked forward to Ryan’s return. Now, with Ryan back in town, Charlotte was excited to reconnect with her old friend and see how he had changed after all these years.
Ryan sitting beside Charlotte turned to her side and asked, "What are you studying?"
"I am currently studying in Empire City University."
Charlotte’s curiosity got the better of her, and she turned the tables on Ryan, asking, "What about your plans?"
"I am going to New York in the next few months to take over as the Chief Executive officer at my family’s hospital, St. Michael’s."
"That would be great, Ryan!" Charlotte exclaimed, her voice bubbling with excitement. She couldn’t help but feel a surge of joy internally, as the thought of Ryan moving to New York brought a smile to her face. The prospect of spending more time with him was a thrilling one, especially since she had been staying with her grandma in New York and studying there. The coincidence was almost too good to be true - her dear friend, now a handsome and accomplished young man, would be joining her in the city she had grown to love. She envisioned the countless moments they would share, exploring the city, laughing together, and deepening their friendship. She felt grateful for this unexpected turn of events, and her eyes sparkled with delight as she looked at Ryan, already imagining the adventures they would have together in New York.
As they finally arrived at Charlotte’s house, she turned to Ryan and said, "Well, we’re here. I’ll let you go now, Ryan. You must be exhausted from your travel." Ryan nodded in agreement, his eyes looking tired.
"Thanks for understanding, Charlotte. I am pretty beat." he replied, his voice filled with fatigue.
Charlotte smiled warmly and bid him goodbye. "Get some rest, Ryan. We’ll catch up soon. I won’t keep you now."
Ryan smiled back and nodded. "Thanks, Charlotte. It was great seeing you again. I’ll talk to you soon."
With that, Charlotte got out of the car and watched as Ryan drove away. She knew he needed rest after his long journey, so she didn’t ask him to come in and visit her house. Instead, she waved goodbye and headed inside, feeling happy to have reconnected with her beloved.
Later that evening, Charlotte picked up her phone and sent a text message to Ryan. "Ryan, I was thinking we could grab dinner at The Waterfront Grill tonight? I’ve heard great things about their seafood." She added a smiling emoji to the message, trying to contain her excitement.
What Ryan didn’t know was that Charlotte had been planning a surprise for him. She had made reservations at the restaurant and had arranged for a special table with a beautiful view of the marina. She had also asked the chef to prepare Ryan’s favorite dish, hoping to make the evening even more special.
She had already sent him the address of the restaurant and was looking forward to seeing Ryan again and sharing the surprise she had planned for him.
Charlotte selected a beautiful square neck floral corset lace up midi dress, which she complemented with a pair of sophisticated heels.
The final touch to Charlotte’s outfit was a slender necklace featuring a small, exquisite pendant that subtly accentuated the charm of her dress.
Arriving early at the restaurant, Charlotte was happy to see the decorations she had arranged. The table was set with white linens, fine china, and a beautiful bouquet of red roses.
