Chapter 34: The Road Back Home

Additionally, her chronic joint pain required careful attention, and walking long distances often left her feeling exhausted and uneasy. Nevertheless, she was determined to treasure their time together and had willingly made an exception for this special day with her beloved granddaughter.

Later, Thea booked a cab, and as they settled in, Grandma Grace turned to Thea with a excited smile. "Next stop, gift shopping..We need to find the perfect present for Ryder’s grandparents’ anniversary."

The cab pulled up in front of "Elegance & Co.," a charming and upscale store renowned for its distinctive and exclusive items. Thea assisted her grandma out of the vehicle, providing a steady arm to lean on as they walked toward the entrance. After settling the fare, they stepped inside, enveloped by the captivating aroma of fine woods and soft perfumes.

They were mesmerized by the stunning array of unique gifts, decorative pieces, and exquisite furnishings. The store’s tasteful décor, with its soft lighting and elegant displays, showcased an impressive collection of artisanal ceramics and handcrafted jewelries.

The store was tastefully decorated, with soft music playing in the background and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Shelves upon shelves of exquisite vases, rare artwork, and delicate antiques filled the room, each piece more breathtaking than the last. Thea and Grandma Grace made their way to the counter, where a friendly saleswoman greeted them with a warm smile.

"Welcome to Elegance & Co. It’s lovely to have you here. How may I assist you?"

"Could you please show us some exceptional vases suitable for an anniversary gift? We’re seeking something truly extraordinary and unique."

The saleswoman smiled, "We have some exceptionally lovely items that would make an anniversary gift truly special. Let me show you our most delicate vases."

The saleswoman displayed the vases, and Thea’s attention was drawn to a breathtaking design. "Grandma, what do you think of this one?" she asked.

Grandma Grace studied the vase and smiled at her.

The saleswoman, observing Thea’s interest, offered a warm smile. "That’s a superb choice, miss. It’s a limited-edition piece, crafted with exceptional care and detail."

"Thea, it’s beautiful." she complemented.

"What is the cost of it?"

The saleswoman’s expression turned professional, and she replied, "The price of this exquisite vase is Seven Thousand dollars." She paused, her eyes highlighting the vase’s beauty. "It’s a one-of-a-kind piece, handmade by a renowned artist. The intricate design, rare materials, and exceptional craftsmanship make it a true masterpiece."

Thea’s eyes widened at the hefty price tag, but Grandma Grace’s encouraging nod and the saleswoman’s persuasive words eased her reservations. Envisioning the joy it would bring Ryder’s grandparents and the lasting memory they would cherish, Thea’s face lit up with a resolute smile. "We’ll take it." she declared confidently.

She knew Ryder’s family was wealthy and could easily afford it, but to her, this gift came from the heart.

"It’s worth every penny, Thea. They will cherish it.."

The saleswoman radiated a warm smile. "I’ll wrap this gift for you."

With a serene smile, Thea nodded, knowing Ryder’s grandparents would adore this thoughtful gesture.

Thea held the conviction that gifts are gestures of kindness, and monetary value is irrelevant when something is given with sincerity.

In her perspective, it was the intention, affection, and dedication that mattered, not the cost. She understood that a genuine gift represents affection, concern, and gratitude, and that’s what rendered it truly precious.

Thea’s phone suddenly rang. She dug into her sling bag, fingers searching quickly until she found it. Seeing the name on the screen, a mix of curiosity and concern crossed her mind. ’Why is he calling at this hour?’ she wondered, before answering softly, "Hello..."

"Where are you?" came the voice from the other end, Ryder’s deep tone familiar and comforting.

"I’m outside with Grandma." she answered, glancing over at Grandma Grace, who was quietly observing her.

"Where are you?" Ryder asked, his voice breaking through her thoughts.

Thea glanced around, taking note of her surroundings. "We’re at 1/7 Main Street, outside Elegance & Co."

"Got it." Ryder replied. "I’ll be there in 10 minutes."

"But... Ryder-"

"Hang on. I’ll come get you and Grandma, and take you both home."

"Oh... okay," Thea said, her voice softening.

After the call ended, her gaze met Grandma Grace’s, a small smile playing on her lips.

"Ryder called?" she asked Thea , her voice soft.

"Hmm..He’s coming here to give us a ride to our home.."

Grandma Grace’s visage brightened, a look of empathy and warmth radiating. "How sweet he is!" she commented, her voice imbued with love and appreciation.

Thea and Grandma Grace waited outside for Ryder. A black Maybach pulled up in front of them, and the driver’s window rolled down. Thea’s eyes were mesmerized as she looked into Ryder’s handsome appearance behind the wheel. "Get in." he said with a smile. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Thea opened the back door for Grandma Grace and was about to sit beside her but Ryder’s voice stopped her.

"Thea, sit in the front."

Her hands trembled slightly as she hesitated. Grandma Grace reassured her.

"I’ll be fine back here, dear." she said with a warm smile.

Thea slid into the front passenger seat beside Ryder, her heart beating slightly faster. The proximity sparked a flutter in her chest.

Ryder’s gaze flicked from the rearview mirror to Thea. "Comfortable?" he asked, his voice low and smooth.

Thea nodded, her voice caught in her throat, as Ryder’s eyes.

She gazed out the window, lost in thought. The city blurred by, its sounds and sights fading into the background as his calm presence enveloped her.

"Ryder, it’s so good to see you again.." Grandma Grace said, her tone infused with warmth.

Ryder’s eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "Likewise, Grandma. I’ve missed you."

He glanced in the rearview mirror, his eyes meeting hers.

"Grandma, How have you been?"

Grandma Grace’s features softened with reminiscence."You know, as we get older, our bodies start to show the wear and tear. Mine’s certainly not as healthy as it used to be."Her speech grew quiet.

"Everything will be fine, Grandma. You will live longer with us."

"How was Sweden?Did everything go smoothly? We were really concerned about you traveling by yourself."
