Chapter 212: Don’t Unlock
"Thea, the situation is. . . I was browsing the website today, and I noticed that there was a special deal, so. . . I have placed an order for one for you as well. "
"Alright. . . you did a fantastic job. I ought to applaud you. . . " Thea remarked, her tone laden with sarcasm.
"Wow, I knew it. . . you would like it.." Charlotte said on the phone, a mischievous tone slipping into her voice. "After all, there’s a reason for this. . . Your Mr. Thompson. "
Thea’s eyes widened in alarm .."Charlotte, stop talking! " she whispered urgently, attempting to quiet her friend.
"Alright, alright. . . I’m ending the call now.." Charlotte said with amusement.
Thea responded flatly, "Hmm. . . Goodbye .."
As soon as she disconnected, Thea couldn’t help but shake her head. "Charlotte is truly something else," she mumbled to herself. "Her mind is constantly occupied with these sorts of ideas. . . "
In the evening, Thea headed out to the professional hand cleaning centre and returned home within an hour.
As she entered the living room, she found Grandma Grace sitting comfortably, watching her favorite show on television.
"Grandma, has Aunt Evelyn sold her house yet?" Thea asked.
Grandma Grace looked away from the screen, slightly puzzled. "I’m not sure, dear. She didn’t mention anything about it the last time we spoke. Why do you ask?"
Thea shrugged, taking a seat beside her grandmother. "I saw some people over there earlier, discussing something. I’m not sure what it was about, though."
Thea looked at Grandma Grace with a pensive look. "Grandma, what would you like to eat for dinner? "
Grandma Grace’s face brightened with a joyful grin. "Whatever my beloved granddaughter prepares. . . all are my favorites," she responded, her eyes sparkling with love.
Thea chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "Hmm, trying to flatter me? " she joked.
Grandma Grace laughed, her joy echoing in the room. "Ha, ha," she remarked, obviously pleased.
Thea’s smile widened as she stood up from her chair. "Alright, I’m going to make your favorite meal." she declared, moving towards her room.
After changing into a comfortable dress, Thea made her way to the kitchen, leaving her phone on the table in the living room. Grandma Grace eyed her occasionally, a knowing smile on her face. She was fully aware that Thea preferred to take control of cooking and wouldn’t allow her to assist.
Just as Grandma Grace got comfortable with her show, Thea’s phone chimed..
"Thea, your phone.." Grandma Grace shouted.
Thea’s voice rang out from the kitchen, "Who is it Grandma? "
Grandma Grace grabbed the phone and looked at the screen. She noticed the name "Aunt Evelyn" appearing on the display.
"It’s Evelyn.." Grandma Grace said, looking at the phone’s screen. "I’ll receive the call."
"Hmm.." Thea replied, her attention still focused on cooking.
Grandma Grace accepted the call and spoke warmly into the phone. "Hello, Evelyn. How are you?"
"Madam Wynn, I’m well. How have you all been? And how is Thea? " Mrs. Evelyn inquired.
"We’re doing fine, thank you. Thea is currently in the kitchen cooking," Grandma Grace responded.
"Your Thea is quite wonderful. The way you’ve raised her is truly commendable.." Mrs. Evelyn remarked, her tone sincere.
"Yes, but if she hadn’t listened to me, I don’t believe she would be the person she is today.." Grandma Grace said with a laugh.
"Madam Wynn, your words make me laugh.." she said, finding it amusing.
Thea emerged from the kitchen, curiosity on her face. "What are you two talking about?" she asked.
Grandma Grace smiled, pleased to share the conversation. "Your Aunt Evelyn was just complimenting me on the way I’ve raised you, dear."
"Grandma, I’ll talk to her.." Thea said.
"Yes, Evelyn, talk to Thea.." Grandma Grace encouraged.
"Hello, Aunt Evelyn. How are you?" Thea asked, her voice warm and polite.
"I’m good, dear. But I must say, if you were here in front of me, I’d be even better.." Aunt Evelyn replied, her voice filled with affection.
"Aunt Evelyn, is your house... have you sold it?" Thea asked curiously.
"Sold? No, no... why?" Aunt Evelyn replied, sounding puzzled.
"Today I saw some people standing in front of your house and discussing something..." Thea explained.
"Ooh... I see..." Aunt Evelyn said thoughtfully.
Thea and Aunt Evelyn chatted for a while longer, catching up on each other’s lives. Eventually, Thea handed her phone to Grandma Grace and excused herself, heading back to the kitchen.
Thea set the table, and Grandma Grace settled into her seat.
"What delicious meal has my dear granddaughter prepared for me tonight, hmm?" Grandma Grace asked.
"You’ll see.." Thea replied with a grin, as she started serving the dishes.
The mouthwatering dinner feature Mexican chicken and rice and steamed Green Beans.
"Grandma, I’ve been thinking... maybe I should get a part-time job.." Thea said.
Grandma Grace looked up, surprised. "Why suddenly are you thinking of this? You don’t need to work, dear."
"But Grandma-"
Grandma Grace held up her hand, firm. "No, means no. You’re only eighteen, and I won’t have you taking on unnecessary responsibilities. The only reason I allowed you to work with Evelyn was because I trusted her to keep you safe. Now, let’s not think about this anymore."
Thea nodded, resigning herself to the conversation’s end. Grandma Grace rose from her seat and headed to wash her hands.
"Thea, did you think your grandma wouldn’t be able to take care of you financially?" Grandma Grace asked, her voice tinged with a hint of concern.
Thea looked up, her eyes meeting Grandma Grace’s. "No, Grandma, it’s not that. I just thought... maybe I should contribute something since I’m getting older."
Grandma Grace’s gaze narrowed slightly. "Did anyone say anything to you?"
Thea shook her head, her eyes darting back to her plate. "No, no one said ..any..anything to me."
Grandma Grace watched Thea silently, her expression unreadable, as Thea continued eating.
"Alright, dear. You finish your dinner. I’m going to head back to my room."
"Okay, Grandma. Goodnight.." Thea replied, smiling warmly.
The next morning, Grandma Grace and Thea set out on their daily walk. As they strolled, they ran into Nia Marte.
"Huh..! Grace, you’re glowing! What’s your secret?" Nia teased, eyeing Grandma Grace’s radiant smile.
Grandma Grace chuckled, her eyes shining with warmth. "My glow is all thanks to my wonderful granddaughter. I feel so fortunate to have her in my life."
Nia smiled, nodding in agreement. "Hmm, yes... that’s true. You are truly fortunate, Grace."
Nia affectionately patted Thea’s head. Grandma Grace turned to Nia and asked, "When did you return?"
"I got back last night," Nia answered.
A friendly voice interrupted their conversation, "Grace! Nia! It’s been ages! Long time no see!"
Nia rolled her eyes good-naturedly and whispered to Grandma Grace, "Here comes trouble, speaking nonsense again."
The woman, her face etched with deep lines and wrinkles that belied her sixty-some years, walked up to the trio, a sly smile spreading across her face.
Grandma Grace smiled gently and reminded Nia, "Ah, Nia, I think she could overheard you."
The woman’s gaze shifted to Thea, and she exclaimed, "Oh, Thea, I didn’t notice you were here too."
Before Grandma Grace could say a word, Nia spoke up, "What’s wrong with Thea being here, anyway?"
Bruna shook her head, "No, no problem at all."
She beamed with pride, "It’s great to see you all. I was thinking of visiting you. You know, my daughter just got married... and her in-laws are extremely wealthy. You can’t even imagine how happy and fortunate she is."
Nia raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement dancing on her lips. "Bruna, isn’t this her third marriage?"
"Third marriage, yes... but she’s happy, and so am I. My son-in-law is just wonderful."
Grandma Grace smiled warmly. "Yeah We all hope that everyone should be happy and in good health."
Nia’s curiosity got the better of her. "What brings you here, Bruna?"
"I was heading to my daughter’s house and saw you two, so I thought I’d drop by for a chat," Bruna replied.
Nia’s gaze refocused on Thea, and she gently continued playing with the her fingers, murmuring softly, "Good."
"How’s your granddaughter doing? Is she still living with her mother?"
"Grace, you can’t possibly mean that! You have no idea,.." Bruna’s tone was filled with enthusiasm and a touch of scandal. "I take it you haven’t caught wind of the news. . . ? " She stopped for dramatic impact before exclaiming, "She has a job and she’s getting hitched! "
