Chapter 145: The Musty Aroma

Later at night,Thea walked into her room, her eyes immediately drawn to the bag which was placed on a chair. The bag held the box Ryder had given her. She reached in and carefully pulled out the box, holding it gently in her hands. Her fingers traced the name written on the top, and she felt a flutter in her chest.

Ryder’s handwriting was unmistakable - bold, elegant, and slightly slanted. Each stroke confident and smooth.

As she caressed the name, Thea’s thoughts turned to Ryder, and she couldn’t help but smile. The box, with its beautiful handwriting, was more than just a gift.

Thea carefully removed the greeting card from the gift package and set it aside on the bed, her eyes fixed on the box that remained. The square-shaped box’s content hidden from view. She took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for the moment of discovery.

As she stood there, a thrill of excitement mixed with a touch of nervousness coursed through her veins. This was a feeling she had grown accustomed to whenever Ryder sent her a gift. The anticipation of not knowing what was inside, the possibility of being surprised and delighted, it all combined to create a sense of eager expectation.

Thea’s hands moved slowly, as she reached for the box. Her fingers made contact with the lid, and she hesitated for a fraction of a second, building up the courage to lift it. What would she find inside?

With a sense of wonder, she slowly lifted the lid, and her eyes widened as she caught her first glimpse of the surprise within.

As Thea lifted the lid of the box, a soft gasp escaped her lips. Inside, she found a complete set of "The Whispering Winds of Winter" book series, a collection she had been longing to read for what felt like an eternity. Memories came flooding back of a visit to a quaint bookstore two years ago, where she had searched for the series, only to be disappointed when the store owner told her it was sold out.

She had mentioned her disappointment to Ryder, but it was a fleeting conversation, lost in the passage of time. Or so she thought. As she gazed at the books, now nestled in her hands, Thea felt a surge of joy and wonder. Ryder had remembered. He had recalled a conversation from two years ago.She had long forgotten about it.

The fact that Charlotte had given her the book after knowing that Thea too wanted to read the same series like her, but it was Ryder’s memory that truly touched her heart. It was as if he had been holding onto that moment, waiting for the perfect opportunity to surprise her. But what made the gift even more special was that the series included the latest publication, a book she had been eager to read but hadn’t had the chance to get her hands on yet.

Thea’s eyes widened as she saw the newest installment, "The Winds of Winter’s End", nestled among the other books. She had been following the series for years, and the latest book had been released just a month ago. The fact that Ryder had managed to get his hands on a copy, and had included it in the gift, made her feel like he had been paying attention to her interests and hobbies all along.

As she ran her fingers over the spines of the books, Thea felt a deep sense of connection to the stories within. "The Whispering Winds of Winter" series, a collection of romantic novels that had been on her wish list for ages. She had fallen in love with the idea of reading about swoon-worthy heroes, witty heroines, and the hilarious misadventures that ensued when they fell in love.As she gazed at the books, Thea felt a surge of excitement and gratitude. She loved getting lost in a good romance, and the fact that Ryder had brought her favorite series to her doorstep made her feel loved and cherished. She couldn’t wait to dive into the world of "The Whispering Winds of Winter", to laugh and cry and fall in love with the characters alongside them.

Thea’s heart swelled with love and appreciation, knowing that she was cherished and remembered by the one person who mattered most. The fact that Ryder had gone out of his way to get her the latest book in the series made her feel seen and loved. She felt grateful for his love and devotion, and knew that this gift would hold a special place in her heart forever.

Thea placed the books on the bed, her mind still reeling from the surprise gift. She then walked over to the cabinet, her fingers trailing over the familiar surface as she opened it. Inside, she retrieved a small metal box, its cool surface a comforting weight in her hands. She lifted the lid, and a faint smile spread across her face as she gazed at the contents.

The metal box was a treasure trove of memories, filled with letters and greeting cards that Ryder had written to her over the years. Each one was a tangible reminder of his kindness, his consideration, and his love, a sweet gesture that had touched her heart and made her feel seen, heard, and cherished by him. Thea’s eyes scanned the stack, her fingers tracing the edges of the cards and letters as she remembered the occasions on which she had received them.

There were birthday cards and the letters he would write to her in reply to hers.

As she placed the new greeting card alongside the others, Thea felt a sense of continuity, a sense of connection to the past and to the love that had grown between her and Ryder. The metal box was more than just a repository of memories; it was a symbol of their enduring bond, a reminder that their love had stood the test of time. With a soft sigh, Thea closed the lid, the metal box secure in her cabinet, its contents a secret treasure that only she and Ryder shared.

Thea gathered the books from her bed and placed them on her bookshelf, her enthusiasm growing as she contemplated reading the new series. To fully appreciate the latest installment, she planned to re-read the first series, and the thought of revisiting beloved characters and storylines filled her with delight. With the books neatly arranged on her shelf, she felt a sense of anticipation, eager to settle in and devour the stories once again.

Thea got comfortable in bed with the first book of the series and picked up her phone to check her messages. A text from Charlotte, sent about an hour ago, caught her attention. The words made her smile: "I’ll ask you about the gift tomorrow... Take your time to love and imagine it as your lover..." Charlotte’s playful message brought a blush to Thea’s cheeks and a gentle laugh to her lips.

Thea smiled to herself as she typed out a response to Charlotte’s message. "Hmm... Tomorrow I’ll tell you. Goodnight.." she wrote, keeping her reply light and mysterious. With a satisfied tap of the send button, she settled in for the night, her phone drifting out of her hands.

She opened the book, eager to dive into the story, but as she began to read, she found her mind wandering. She couldn’t seem to focus on the words, her thoughts drifting to Ryder and the gift he had given her.She lifted the book to her nose, inhaling the familiar scent of the pages. The musty aroma of the paper and the faint hint of ink filled her senses, transporting her to a cozy world of comfort and tranquility. As she breathed in the scent, she felt her tension ease, and her eyelids grew heavy, the words on the page blurring together. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Thea’s eyes grew heavy, and she set the book aside, letting sleep claim her. "I’ll read this later," she thought, her mind drifting off into a peaceful slumber.

The next morning, the soft, golden light of dawn crept through the curtains, filling the room with a warm glow. As the morning sunbeams danced across her face, Thea slowly stirred, her eyes fluttering open to greet the new day.

Thea’s eyes dropped to her hands, and she was surprised to find the book still cradled in her chest.
