Chapter 138: Only One Scone!!
"The scones are delicious." he said, his voice filled with satisfaction, "and the tea that Thea made is perfect." He savored the flavor, the warmth of the tea and the sweetness of the scone combining in a delightful harmony.
Elizabeth smiled warmly, pleased that her father in law was enjoying the treat. She glanced at Thea, and smiled at her before turning to her father-in-law. "Did you like it, Father?"
"Hmm, I like it," Elder Edward said, nodding his head in approval.
Emerson’s giggles filled the room as she announced, "Grandfather, these are made by Sister Thea."
"Then all the scones are for me! I’m not going to share them with anyone." Elder Edward declared. With a swift swoop, he took the plate from the table and held it tightly against his chest, just as Brenda was about to reach for a scone. "No sharing!" he said with a chuckle.
Brenda laughed at her father’s playful act, and then her eyes landed on the cupcakes. She extended her hand to take one.
"Here, take this. Only one I can give you." Elder Edward, still holding the plate of scones close to his heart, handed his daughter one scone.
Anderson looked at his wife Brenda with interest and asked, "Does Father like scones?"
Brenda’s expression softened as she thought about her father-in-law’s fondness for Thea’s baking. "Hmm... whatever Thea would make would be his favorite," she said with a gentle smile.
Anderson’s eyes were drawn to the scones in Brenda’s hand, and he couldn’t help but feel a sudden craving. "Can I?" he asked, his voice low and hopeful.
Brenda’s smile grew, and she asked, "Do you want to try?" her voice warm and inviting, as she offered him one of the freshly baked scones.Anderson replied with a thoughtful "Hmm..."
"Sorry, I won’t share!"She relented, and with a warm smile, said "Here.." as she handed him the scones.
Elder Edward’s wife, Rosie, teasingly asking, "Honey, are you going to eat all of the scones?" Elder Edward smiled at her, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Hmm." he replied, his voice low and playful.
"Not even sharing with me?" Elder Edward snuggled closer to her side, his voice filled with affection. "No, honey, whatever is mine is also yours." he whispered, his face inches from hers.As he spoke, he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close in a gentle gesture of love and devotion.
"Oh my eyes..." Lydia whispered to Melanie, her voice barely above a whisper. "There’s nothing that can stop our grandfather from showing his affection to grandmother." she said, her eyes shining with delight.
Melanie smiled knowingly and whispered back, "They’re just too adorable." She giggled softly, clearly entertained by the open display of affection between their grandparents.
A black car pulled up to the gate, and two men emerged from the vehicle. The handsome man, stepped out first, followed by his assistant. As they crossed the main gate, a cheerful and happy voice rang out.
"Brother Ryder, you’re back?" Emerson exclaimed, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm.
Brother Ryder’s face lit up with a smile as he saw Emerson, his youngest cousin. He walked towards her and opened his arms, embracing her in a warm hug. Emerson, delighted to see her brother Ryder, had quickly gotten down from the sofa and run into his arms.
After a hug she asked, "Brother Ryder!!! How have you been?? It’s been four days since I last saw you. I really missed you." Her eyes were filled with happiness and her face was having smile stretching from ear to ear.
"I missed you too Emerson!!",Ryder said with the same feeling of happiness as her.
Assistant Auxton bowed respectfully to Elder Edward and greeted him, "Good Evening, Sir Thompson." Elder Edward responded with a warm smile, "Good morning, Auxton."
Then, Ryder turned to his assistant and said, "Assistant Auxton, you can head back to your home and take a rest." Assistant Auxton bowed again, this time to both Elder Edward and Ryder. With a quiet "Thank you,Boss." he took his leave.
"Ryder, my dear grandson, finally you are here." His grandmother asked as she looked at his direction.Ryder walked towards his grandparents, his face filled with affection, and asked, "Grandma, Grandpa, how are you all?"
Rosie’s eyes sparkled with happiness as she responded, "You are here, we are all happy. We have missed you a lot." Her gentle tone conveyed the love and longing they had felt during his absence, now replaced with joy at his return.
"Me too...I have missed you all." Ryder said, his voice sincere with emotion.
His mother, Elizabeth, smiled warmly and asked, "Do you want to have some tea, dear?" Ryder nodded, "Yes, Mother."
As they settled in, Emerson got up and sat down beside Thea, and Ryder followed suit, taking a seat beside Emerson.
"Brother Ryder, how was your trip?" Emerson asked.
Ryder turned to her and smiled, "Good." His eyes then shifted to Thea, and he inquired, "When did you arrive?"
But before Thea could answer, Emerson piped up, "Brother Ryder, I called Sister Thea yesterday because I wanted to play with her. And besides, we’re leaving tomorrow." Ryder nodded, his expression understanding.
As they chatted, Elizabeth stepped in, handing Ryder a cup of steaming tea, "Here, Ryder." Ryder accepted the cup, his fingers closing around it as he smiled in appreciation, "Thank you, Mother."
Ryder walked over to his grandfather, who was still holding the plate of scones, and sat down beside him. His grandfather, Elder Edward, turned to him and asked, "How is the tea?" Ryder replied, "Good."
Ryder’s eyes then landed on the plate of scones, and he pointed towards it, saying, "I want to have that." Elder Edward raised an eyebrow and asked, "These?" Ryder nodded, and Elder Edward teased, "Hmm, sorry... but I’m not going to share them with you. You know these were made by Thea."
Ryder gave his grandfather a playful smile, and in a mock-concerned tone, said, "Don’t eat too much sweet, it’s not good for your health." Elder Edward chuckled and replied, "Whatever you say, I’m not going to give you a single piece."
Ryder set his cup down after finishing his tea and announced, "I’m going to my room." He stood up, preparing to leave, but his grandfather, Elder Edward, had other plans.
"Hmm, go now... or else you’ll cause me to lose my appetite by looking at my precious scones." Elder Edward teased, trying to shoo Ryder away. Ryder smiled at his grandfather’s playful jab, but then, in a swift and unexpected move, he extended his hand and snatched three scones from Elder Edward’s plate.
Elder Edward’s eyes widened in surprise, and he exclaimed, "You sticky brat!" He couldn’t believe that his normally obedient grandson would pull such a mischievous stunt. Ryder’s quick action had caught him off guard, and he was left staring at his now-depleted plate of scones in amusement and surprise.
"My precious scones... that brat took three of them." Elder Edward lamented, his voice laced with humorous disappointment as he surveyed the plate, now depleted of its prized contents.
Rosie, who had been observing the scene, couldn’t help but chuckle at Ryder’s mischievous behavior. "Ryder did a good job... ha ha," she said, her laughter and words of praise acknowledging his successful sneak attack on the scones.
As Ryder began to ascend the stairs, Rosie caught his eye and winked at him, her expression a clear indication that she was impressed by his cunning and playful antics. Ryder, feeling pleased with himself, smiled back at his grandmother, the stolen scones clutched tightly in his hands, as he continued up the stairs.
Ryder’s voice came from the stairs, "Emerson, Thea, and you two twins, come to my room after you’re done with tea."
Brenda glanced at her sister-in-law who was sitting beside her and smiled, saying, "Father was strict about only having one scone, but Ryder managed to sneak three right from under his nose."
"Father why are you looking at that plate ?"Harrison asked his father,Elder Edward.
He came from his friend’s house. He was wearing a white t shirt and a grey track pant,in which he looked younger than his actual age.
When he reached the door he saw his mother was teasing his father who was looking at the plate infront of him.Elder Edward put on a pitiful face. "Your son is to be blamed for it."
