Chapter 135: There’s A Big Difference
His gaze cooled, furious, he clamped down on her chin, his grip firm, and coldly ordered, "Don’t read those online, and don’t even think about doing anything with any other male. Understood?"
"I wonder what would happen if I tried this trick on others." Charlotte mused. "You, however, seem immune... I’ve already tried."
"Charlotte, I don’t want you to talk back when I’m lecturing you." he said sternly. "And if I catch you playing with him again, I’ll tell Grandma about everything that’s been going on."
"You hear me?" asked the man in his raspy, genuine, and magnetic voice. It held a deadly allure that left her in awe and enthrallment.
"Yes.." she answered rolling her eyes at him..
"Remember it?"
"Yes!"
She nodded.
Only then did his gaze become gentler and lighter "Go, Your Grandma would be worrying about you."
"How did your matchmaking session go?" Charlotte asked, her gaze piercing into Ryan’s eyes.
"Are you really two-timing?" she added.
Charlotte’s eyes remained fixed on Ryan’s, searching for any sign of truth or deception, awaiting his response with bated breath.
However, Charlotte was not at all concerned about her dinner! His matchmaking session was what she cared about most!
"Hm?" He lowered his gaze to look at her
"Is she your blind date?"
"Charlotte that girl is not my blind date."he clarified.
Hearing his words she felt relieved .
"What do you think of your little girlfriend girl?" Charlotte nervously asked.
"Not bad.." replied the man honestly.
His answer had her frowning and pouting with much displeasure. "Why do I think otherwise?"
"What’s not good about her?"
"... Everything! Anyway, she’s not the type I like."
That got him chuckling. "Am I the one looking for a wife, or you?"
"She’s no good even so! I don’t like her, that’s it!" she insisted.
He regarded her with a meaningful and ambiguous look and a slight hook of his lips. "Is there any girl that you like in this world at all?"
"Of course there is!"she nodded and laughingly said,"In fact,I find myself a pretty good match."patting herself in the chest she recommended ,"What do you think of me ,Ryan?"
"You’re not bad."
The man reached out and patted her head. "I’m looking for a wife for myself, though. You can’t be."
Alas, she was just about to excitedly ask "Why not?" when he continued saying, "Besides, you’re not the type I like! I don’t want to find someone difficult to manage like you for my wife..."
"So, your ideal type is your little girlfriend, who’s suitable to be your wife?"
The man nodded, a smile spreading across his face. "Yes. After all, we’ve known each other for eight years."
With that, he turned around and left for his home, leaving Charlotte feeling like she’d been punched in the gut. What seemed like a careless remark to him was akin to sharp thorns piercing deep into her heart. The words cut her deeply, and all of a sudden, her heart started to ache tremendously.
That night, Charlotte couldn’t bring herself to eat dinner. Instead, she retreated to her bedroom, trying to distract herself from the pain by diligently working on her homework. Despite her foul mood, she completed all the assignments she could, carefully circling the ones she didn’t know how to do with a colored pen, intending to consult her tutor the next day.
The next day...
"Thea, are you even listening to what I’m saying?" Charlotte asked, her voice tinged with frustration.
Thea responded with a distracted "Hmm..."
Charlotte’s eyes narrowed, and she pouted her lips in disappointment. "You’re just saying ’hmm’... You’re not listening.." she accused, her gaze fixed on Thea’s face as they sat together in the library.
"I am listening to your words, Charlotte," Thea said, her voice soft and defensive.
"Then tell me what I have said." Charlotte pressed, her eyes narrowing slightly as she waited for Thea to recall their conversation.
Thea took a deep breath before repeating, "You said that Ryan likes his girlfriend and doesn’t want to find someone difficult to manage like you as his wife." Her tone was neutral, but her eyes betrayed a hint of sympathy for her friend.
Charlotte’s face fell, and she looked at Thea with a mixture of hurt and insecurity. "Am I difficult, Thea?" she asked, her voice laced with a vulnerability that made Thea’s heart go out to her.
Thea’s expression softened, and she said, "You are naughty, that I can say, but you’re a good person, Charlotte."
Charlotte’s eyes flashed with a fiery spirit as she laughed, "Ha ha, he said I’m not his type, he doesn’t like me..." Her words were tinged with a hint of mockery, as if she couldn’t believe someone would dare reject her. Then, her face set in a determined expression, and she uttered, "But I’ll make him fall in love with me." The statement was a bold declaration, a challenge to herself and to Ryan, and Charlotte’s eyes sparkled with a fierce competitiveness.
Seeing Charlotte remaining quiet..Thea look up and saw her bestfriend was deeply engrossed with her phone. Keeping her head bowed under the table, she seemed to be busy secretly typing away on the cell phone’s screen
"What are you doing? Why are you so secretive?" Thea nosily propped her face over her shoulder, wanting to sneak a peek at her mobile screen.
"Nothing much!"
Charlotte quickly tucked her phone into the desk drawer, her face blushing furiously red.
"Are you sure?! Look, your face is as red as a beetroot ."Thea examined her with squinted eyes. "Has it got to do with your Ryan? "
There was no way the girl could not tell her bestie what was going on in her mind.
Finding a secluded corner, she checked to ensure no one was around beside Thea ..before she took out her phone again and checked through the items in her inbox line by line.
A notification appeared on the website, answering Charlotte’s question: "If a man asks you to lick his finger, what does it mean?"
Charlotte was taken aback by the sheer number of responses she received. The netizens’ answers were not only numerous but also surprisingly frank. As she read through the replies, her face grew increasingly red with embarrassment. Some of the responses were particularly straightforward, leaving her breathless. They included:
- "Is this man in love with you?"
- "It looks like the man is sending you a proposition!"
- "Sexual provocation."
The third line caused Charlotte’s eyes to widen in shock.
"Thea, you won’t believe what happened yesterday." Charlotte said, a conspiratorial look on her face. "I was at a restaurant and I ran into someone I know, and somehow he figured out that I have a thing for Ryan. Then, he did something really weird - he put my finger in his mouth. Ryan saw it and got all upset with me, but I didn’t get why it was such a big deal. Now that I’ve read these responses, it all makes sense." Charlotte explained, nodding.
She turned to Thea, a sly smile spreading across her face. "You should totally read this, Thea. It’s like, educational. It might come in handy for us someday.." Charlotte said, raising an eyebrow.
Thea took the phone from Charlotte’s hand and began to read. As she scrolled through the responses, her face grew increasingly red. "Charlotte, you’re at it again, aren’t you?" Thea said, shaking her head.
She looked up at Charlotte and let out a sigh. "I have to thank Nash for his help, though. That little boy may be young, but he’s surprisingly knowledgeable about these things."
Thea checked her watch and said, "Charlotte, our next period is about to start." Charlotte responded with a vague "Hmm." and the two friends made their way to their next class together.
As they walked, Charlotte mentioned, "I’m missing Professor Liam’s classes." Thea joked, "I’ll have to let Liam know that you’re pining for him." Charlotte hastily clarified, "Thea, I’m missing his classes, not him. There’s a big difference." Thea’s chuckle suggested she wasn’t entirely convinced by Charlotte’s distinction.
Charlotte let out a gentle sigh, "Ahh, I’m just discussing my own issues..." Her thoughts seemed to drift away for a moment before she refocused on Thea. "So, Thea, how was your holiday with Mr. Thompson?" she asked.
Thea’s face lit up with a pleasant smile. "It was wonderful. We all really enjoyed ourselves." Her voice was filled with warmth, suggesting that the holiday had been a truly special time.
