Chapter 2630: Chapter 1244: Deadly Game · Continuation (XX) - The Path to Survival
"Boring and romantic, huh..."
Double Leaf narrowed her eyes slightly, and only after a long moment did she give a soft snort. "I really don’t get you emotionally rich types. As far as I’m concerned, this is nothing but a tragedy so simple it couldn’t be any simpler."
Motan smiled, shrugged, and said, "It’s precisely because there are way too many tragedies in real life that we have to work hard to dig out something you can call ’romantic’ from them."
"Sorry, I have no idea what the hell you’re babbling about."
Double Leaf made a face at Motan, then tugged at the corner of her mouth and turned to look at the Book Spirit. "Can you understand him?"
The latter shook his head slightly and said gently, "On this topic, I don’t think the position I stand in gives me enough right to speak."
"You’re even more of a buzzkill than me."
Double Leaf rolled her eyes in annoyance, then shifted her gaze back to Frank Hughes, who was standing behind her. "Enough nonsense. Talk. How’d you get out?"
Motan spread his hands, answering a bit helplessly, "I died my way out."
"Oh?"
Double Leaf blinked, then smiled. "Fourteen blasted you out?"
"Uh... the atmosphere at the end was actually pretty friendly."
Motan scratched his cheek awkwardly and gave a wry grin. "After you got in trouble, I just straight up gave up resisting."
Double Leaf raised an eyebrow, but didn’t look too surprised. She just calmly asked, "And then?"
"Then... ah, thanks. Then we just chatted for a bit."
Sitting in the high-backed chair the Book Spirit had thoughtfully created, Motan softly said thanks, then shrugged at Double Leaf. "Maybe he was curious why we absolutely refused to board the [Massacre Ship], not even willing to swallow our pride, and I was equally curious why he had such terrifying Strength. So we had a brief, not very in-depth, but still fairly friendly chat."
Double Leaf spread her arms and fell straight back onto a big pile of cushions that had quietly appeared behind her, waving lazily. "Alright, alright, just start from the beginning. This Book Spirit gentleman’s lips are sealed tighter than a treasure chest, he wouldn’t leak a single word to me."
"Mm, that works too~"
Motan nodded very obediently, smiling. "Then I’ll start from the beginning."

"Do it!"
Right after Fourteen directly stated that he had already seen through "Mei Fu’s" little tricks, Motan didn’t hesitate in the slightest. He let out a roar and immediately retreated in a flash while holding Double Leaf.
"Shit, it’s already started!"
And the "Mei Fu" who had just been shivering in Motan’s arms now shouted back loudly under Fourteen’s rather surprised gaze. Her two pale little hands swept out, and dozens of "wooden stakes" suddenly popped into the air around the three of them. After a round of dizzying position swaps, they formed a total of three layers of a very complicated proto-array with Fourteen at the center.
With a slight vibration of his arms, a layer of blue, rippling light quietly coated his skin. Fourteen grinned. "Lady Mei Fu can actually command the power of Element now—that’s something I’ve never heard of before."
"Thanks for the compliment, baldy!"
No longer acting as "Maeve Xiangluan," Double Leaf let out a cold laugh. She gently slipped out of Motan’s arms and landed lightly on the ground. Right after that, a大量 of dark-purple Seeds slid from the blood-drenched wounds on her hands. A less-than-gentle breeze lifted them up, scattering them onto those weirdly-structured Elemental creations hanging in midair.
She had absolutely zero intention of wasting even half a line of trash talk with him. The moment she made her move, Double Leaf didn’t squander a single second; she completely lacked that basic quality many works insist on—chit-chatting for a bit before the fight actually starts.
And Fourteen didn’t act like one of those many low-Intelligence villains who rely on a good base stat sheet and just swagger around brainlessly. Even though he looked utterly calm, giving off a vibe of handling everything with ease, the rippling light covering his body still made it clear this unfathomable Sea Tribe powerhouse was not taking things lightly.
[Damn it, he actually chose to stay put and sit tight...]
Double Leaf, who had already buried a大量 Seeds between the three of them a few minutes ago, sighed and reluctantly admitted that her plan to trigger the God Technique Array at triple speed—if only Fourteen had rushed straight at them—was dead on arrival. Gritting her teeth, she started going through a "procedure" that even she herself wasn’t all that clear on.
To paralyze Fourteen as much as possible, Double Leaf hadn’t even dared use Divine Arts for the "stakes" that served as the Divine Arts core when she was laying out the prep work. Instead, she chose Elemental creations she was more familiar with and more confident in as substitutes. This method did mean she had to pour in大量 Twisted Seeds during activation and spend a ton of extra Magic Power, but in terms of concealment it was way better, and the Magic Controller class is no joke.
But Double Leaf still hadn’t expected that Fourteen—who looked like he had nothing whatsoever to do with the whole "Spellcasters" system—had actually sensed something was off with such sharp intuition, and even waited until the very end of the conversation to casually expose it.
This composure and confidence pissed Double Leaf off like crazy! And the cautiousness and care he hid underneath it made her mentally curse him out even harder.
Not only had he Seen Through the Magic Control technique she was so proud of, he hadn’t even stepped into any of the backup traps she’d laid out just in case. Double Leaf, who had no past grudges or recent feuds with Fourteen, now wanted nothing more than to kill him as fast as humanly possible!
