"Hey, what are you daydreaming about?"
Gently stepping out of the teleportation array, the petite girl with a lazy demeanor glanced back at her ’companion’ and kicked him slightly, displeased: "Thinking about romance?"
Frank Hughes awkwardly touched his nose and admitted frankly: "Yeah, thinking about Diana..."
"You’re so annoying, we clearly agreed you’d keep me company today, right?"
Double Leaf pouted, her lively eyes behind the glasses alluringly rolled at him, and said leisurely: "Besides, today’s such a rare good day, Diana will definitely work on her Star Map until dawn, you’re just idle either way."
Motan shook his head slightly and sighed with disappointment: "I could have been with her."
"You have quite a problem, don’t you?"
Double Leaf, with an air of an old official, walked forward with her hands behind, and made a funny face at Motan: "Do you stargaze? Do you know how to draw a Star Map? Have you thought about how standing there like an idiot could affect Diana? Have you considered Diana might choose to sleep early instead of stargazing because she’s worried about you?"
With his long legs as an advantage, Motan easily followed behind Double Leaf, and after listening to her words, nodded in agreement and said thoughtfully: "Hmm, you’re right, even though I really want to be with her, it seems I’d only cause trouble for Diana."
"Thank you. At least you have some self-awareness."
The girl snorted lightly, pulled out a book titled "101 Ingenious Uses for Fresh Death Row Inmates" from the nearby shelf, and while flipping through with interest, said faintly: "Also, Mr. Frank Hughes, although I don’t have much experience in romance, I think ’lover’ and ’servant’ are entirely different things. You now seem more like her attentive boy toy than a boyfriend."
Motan laughed helplessly, asking: "Do you feel my position in this relationship is too low?"
"Unfortunately, that’s not it, because Diana isn’t much more accomplished than you."
Double Leaf smacked her lips and shrugged: "In my opinion, you both are overly humble. Honestly, if one of you had the upper hand... no, if Diana had the upper hand, it would at least be okay if she treated you like a pretty boy and played with you. But now you both look exhausted."
Frank Hughes didn’t respond immediately but after a long silence, gently nodded and said: "Thank you for the advice, Miss Futaba."
Double Leaf snorted lightly: "Humbly accept it, but stubbornly refuse to change?"
"If I could find a suitable angle, I’d definitely try for Diana... uh..."
Seeing the girl raise her eyebrows again, Motan awkwardly corrected himself: "To work hard for my relationship with Diana."
"Not my problem."
Though she said so, the girl seemed quite happy when the other actually changed his wording because of her attitude.
After yesterday’s events, there seemed to be a budding spark of what might be called ’friendship’ between Double Leaf and Frank Hughes. The fundamental reason for this is that under relatively equal conditions, the latter, whom Double Leaf had deemed a ’small fry and pretty boy,’ surprisingly performed slightly better in the [Sunset Afterglow] scenario and received higher praise than she did.
Despite Frank benefiting from his prior knowledge, Double Leaf, somewhat proud, clearly didn’t want to acknowledge this. Yet she acknowledged her defeat with great candor, without any resentment or anger directed at Frank for disrupting her task completion...
Well, at least didn’t genuinely harbor anger towards him.
Moreover, from that time on, disregarding the suspicion that ’Frank might indeed be that bastard BLACK Wang Ba,’ Double Leaf truly found herself slightly approving of this person. Though she only verbally distinguished the difference between amoebas and grasshoppers, as Frank mentioned last night, she likely was simply not good at making friends.
All said, the two found themselves at this place again today.
"I say~"
Holding the wooden door handle, Double Leaf suddenly turned to glance at Motan: "I know this might be tough for you, but if you don’t consider Diana, what do you think about our ’game’ with the Tower Spirit?"
Motan smiled, speaking without hesitation: "This is definitely the second luckiest thing in my life."
"Eh?"
The girl was slightly surprised and curiously asked: "Why second?"
Motan spread his hands, his face apologetic: "Because I still can’t completely disregard Diana."
"That’s really unfortunate."
Double Leaf shook her head and slyly laughed: "If you’d said ’because the luckiest thing was meeting you, Double Leaf,’ I might’ve been slightly moved for a second or two."
Frank smiled without saying a word, seemingly having ’although I know you’re teasing me, I’m really not interested in being teased by you’ written across his face.
"Nothing slips past you, how boring."
